Furthermore, this exercise targets the rear delts more than the back to begin with, making it a poor substitute for rows in the first place.

Did some holiday drinking last night, went to gym today to hit yoga class to stretch out a bit but they canceled class. So i figured i'll get a quick lift in...and PR'd my front squat at 191kg/420lb. Sore (4 heavy sessions in the last two days), hungover, didn't have time for a proper breakfast, no caffeine/pre workout because i thought i was going to yoga, and somehow i hit a PR front squat. I DONT UNDERSTAND MY BODY. Hope i can put up 200kg or so in better conditions.

decaf allows us no excuses to not improve at the gym lol.
|
It would actually do a lot of the newbies good to sort of ignore Decaf's numbers to be honest lol. Attempting to imitate or mirror folks with above average genetics/long term training history is a recipe for injury and overreaching.
Long story short, fuck you Decaf, I pretty much gave up drinking because of what it did to me in the gym :D

Alcohol probably numb you or something, feel less push more.

Haha i'm not actually drunk while i lift!

I've been only lifting for like 1 1/2 years now and never actually met one of those guys at my gym but why do 90% of bodybuilding youtubers feel like they need to wear a hoodie for their warmup and 80% of their workup only to take it off and show their spaghetti string tanktop when they reached their pump.
|
Yeah I don't get the hoodie thing. I guess they think it looks cool.

I can get usually the first two sets to touch my sternum decently, but then I can usually only make 2-3 reps to touch my chest for the next 3 sets (doing SL 5x5). I can't make it further. I wonder if I should switch to dumbbell rows? It's quite perplexing and frustrating. Are rows really hard to progress on after a while, similar to OHP?
Or... should I try a more upright row? It seems they are "easier" but I hear pendalay works more muscles overall? i think rows take a while to "get started". if you have the mobility for them, continue doing them with decent form. lower the weight and increase sets and reps slightly. after a month you will grow enough muscle to be able to feel better about doing them correctly, utilising the correct muscles, and progress (decrease reps/sets as you see fit). if its a problem of form/mobility (doesn't sound like it for you), then FUCK them and do lying face-down dumbell side raises instead i ran 30 mins yesterday and 50 mins today (intense huge up hill at end) my mom's cum sucking bf finally banned me from having my home gym at home (he likes everything neat and tidy - doesn't want my stuff on the drive even tho the drive is large enough for 6 cars, and god forbid anyone ever step an inch onto the garden grass). im fortunate enough to have a grandmother nearby so can leave it all in her shed, he is rubbing it in like "oh its only 15 minute run there, you can run there, have your workout and run back again, itll keep you fit ahahaha." COCKSUCKER its 40 min run and will cost like £35/month just to get a half-price bus home every time, not to mention back to being a 3-hour round trip (hourly busses), all because this shithead doesn't like other people on "His Territory". so much for the fucking "home" gym
Sorry to hear that bro. Maybe you can get a bike? Side raises are a good rear delt exercise, but not a replacement for rows and probably not worth doing for novice lifters. I like T-bar rows, and DB rows with a bench if you aren't feeling a BB row.

I remember quite a few times in college when I would be out drinking on the weekend, hungover all of sunday, and smash a new PR monday. It catches up with you as you get older.

They probably like to keep their body warm as a way to lubricate joints and warm up muscle groups.

Luckily I don't plan on getting older!

Everyone here lifting and I'm just sitting here recovering my ki. No caffeine, no lifting, and salmon every day untill the meet.
