What a fucking terrible effort that was. Good defensive effort from the Irish, but we had no creativity in midfield. Källström and Elm should be benched for the next game for their uninspired snorefests. Would have rather had Wernbloom, who might be a leg-breaking psycho at times, but he has heart.

That was a game we should have and needed to win. Now the group is even steven, apart from Germany, who are a class above.

Hope we can produce a real game against Austria.

nah I totally disagree. A game which doesn't matter is a bore fest no matter how good the play. You can never be sure the defence has given it their best and the players have put all their skills and passion into it. Plus there is so much less pressure. It's the pressure that makes the moment. Stepping up to take a penalty or getting through one on one with the keeps.

Yeah, man. Germany vs Kasachstan is way way way better than Italy vs Brazil.

Both are 0/100 for me in terms of interest.

Yeah it's kinda annoying how passive Finland played when there was clearly room to play more offensively. Like, they aren't talentless hacks and could make more chances from counter attacks, the times they tried it looked quite good.
I wouldn't blame anyone for taking a nearly free 0-0 first half but after the 15 minutes of second half when Spain ran out of steam there was definitely a chance for more of those quick 2-3 pass plays through the defense. For the talent pool their game is too passive and that's why I usually don't follow their games.

Anyway, that match was fun because of the sadistic pleasure I get from seeing Spain fail :d

No? They are pretty much guaranteed a place in the 8 best second place finishers and there doesn't seem to be a team that could beat them there.

Portugal?

Unlikely as Portugal is most likely seeded as is Spain, so they are not going to play against.

There can totally be some crazy matchups in playoff like Spain - Portugal, Spain - Croatia, Spain - Belgium etc. Even England is 2nd ATM. Actually Portugal is not even sure to make the playoffs

Edit: Just understood what you said, like you said they use the fifa ranking for the seeds, I tought it was a random draw

Game was ok all in all. Surprised that there hasn't been a lot of brutal challenges, and pleased that the players acted appropriately.

Players were unbelievably well mannered considering the amount of pressure they were under. Congrats to the Croatian team but I can't help feeling like we defeated ourselves with stupid mistakes, sigh

Yeah. You had a couple of great chances. I remember when i saw you back line, i just said "holy shit, this godly back 4", so it's kinda weird that you took 2 "cheap" goals (cheap as in silly mistake by your defence). Anyway, gg, and looking forward to the next match in Belgrade. The atmosphere will probably be great, let's hope the game will be the same way

World class defense can't make up for shit midfield and awful forwards. I was hoping for a draw, but Kolarov thought otherwise
EDIT: Every time these games happen you see reports about an ex-YU super league. Man, that would be so hype, each weekend blockbuster games, it seems that as time goes by the security risks are becoming less and less and the police seem to be more and more in control of the situations. I mean packed stadiums without away fans is much better than the empty stadiums and poor football our leagues have now

Yeah, if they could solve problem with hooligans it would be awesome. And who knows, maybe in time you could actually go to the stadium and have a good time with everyone. Like back then when it was about sports rivalry, not which nationality you are.
If you don't sin Jesus died for nothing.

From Wikipedia:
The 8 best group runners-up will contest the second round. The 8 teams will be paired into 4 home-and-away series. The 4 winners will qualify for the World Cup. There has been no mention of seeding this draw to date, as happened in qualification for the 2010 World Cup, but the rules may change at a later point.

Still they used Seeded-unseeded 2010 qualifiers and so this time too. I don't think UEFA wants to send weak countries to compete world cup.

In 2010, rather shortly before the draws of the runner-up-pairings, they (FIFA? UEFA? not 100% sure) decided there will be seedings, after previously announcing there would be completely random draws. All this was a little controversial.

Imho it makes no sense to speculate about the possible matchups as of today, since the regular groupstage isn't even half done. No matter if spain or france finishes seconds, nobody will want to face either team.

Except Spain is supposed to have competent strikers as well as top class attacking midfielders.

Messi awesome with Argentina, it's starting to be a habit now!
2-0 half time, he created the first goal and assisted Higuain, then provoked a penalty and destroyed the net!

It's funny how our qualifiers go, the extreme home field advantage. All the Central American teams make us play in the day in 90 degree heat, and we always make them play in as cold a northern place as possible at night.

Also I hope the horizontal stripes are gone for good.

That was pretty cool that they got Brad Friedel to sing the national anthem. He's a pretty good singer too!

And I can't see the ball on TV.

It's stupid though to schedule so over the top like this (Denver in late winter/early spring), it makes the game sort of fluky, and we don't want a vital home game where we are supposed to have some superior quality be a fluky game.

I couldn't even tell what happened with the ball but GOAL

Oh nice tap in by Dempsey!

Costa Rica got away with a penalty there.
