You were feeling good because you were getting stronger which is something to feel good about. Don't let something someone said fuck with you. I find the more I squat the less fucks I give about what other people think anyways. If you want to, just start lowering your Cal count to - 300/500 a day and keep lifting your ass off. Best way to make a good first impression is a firm handshake so keep at it.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

Using awesome gym now. Food is really really expensive on meal plan, and you dont get a lot. Probably will make milk trips as supermarket is fairly close via bus.

Also, planned on gong to the gym this mroning but did a bit too much stuff last night...

Wendler recommends heavy, high rep, cheating DB rows.

Also rack pulls and farmers walks. and make sure you're doing most of your DLs with double overhand.

I find my grip is really strong the day after doing romanian DLs. I think the constant tension really helps.

For the people doing grip specific stuff, how frequently do you do it? Every second day, everyday, once a week, etc?

Wow, I can't believe it was last June since my last update. I actually ended up quitting and starting again several times... but I'm definitely up from back then and probably the best shape I've ever been in weight lifting wise. Currently at 185lbs, 6'1.

Current stats:

Bench: 215lb x 5
Squat: 225lb x 6
Press: 125lb x 6

It feels good to be reasonably in shape again, curling 40lbs, etc, makes this feel pretty worth it. I was doing cleans, but ended up messing my back up slightly (I injured it pretty badly last year with deadlifts). So I'm going to stop doing cleans for awhile.

My goal is to get my bench up to 225lbs x 8 and squats to 255lbs x 6. The 225 lbs x 8 goal is just so I can feel like I'm repping two plates easily :D I guess that's about 2 months away. At that point I'm going to switch to lifting 1x a week instead of 4x a week, and start swimming hardcore again. Maybe I'll actually start to see some abs if I keep that up =D
