Mad props to Phyre and Decaf and other rugby players. It is the shit. What position do they have you playing in scrums? You're ~191cm 100kg last I knew, is that still right? I'm not that tall, only 185cm and I've lost some weight due to laziness and school. They didn't have a specific place yet although one of the older guys wanted to have me as a hooker. Apparently I could throw pretty far lol. We had a tiny pitch, perhaps 5x10m and just went at eachother. Called it mauling or something. I need to do some more cardio lol.
If you can, and you don't already have good people in this position, push for being a flanker imo. I was a flanker when I was younger till I got taller and now play no. 8, which is pretty similar to be honest. As a flanker you'll be out of the scrums quickly and get good opportunities to smash some backs. Some people love hooker, ours does, but you are pretty much last out of the scrum and you'll generally be expected to make decisions which can be hard if you are new.

Let me explain: 1 - I can "squat" below parallel 2 - When I do that, my knees never go beyond the tip of the toe (which they should, at least from what I've read). They mostly stay around the mid of the feet. 3 - I can't do this movement (youtube vid). When I try to do that, I fall backwards. I'm posting this because I used to do high-bar Squats, but I switched to low bar because I was having pain on my glutes (I think it's related to the sciatic nerve). I read that low bar is easier on your lower back, so I changed it. Ever since I changed it, it has definitely helped with the pain on my glute, but now I've been feeling pain on my knees, which led me to think that I'm not doing proper squats. From what I'm reading, it seems I have "short calves". Is it fixable? Because of all this, I'm considering changing, temporarily, to a Upper/Lower split schedule where I'll squat less often, until the "problem" is solved and I can squat properly 3 times a week. My knees hurt in a way that I feel like they are 'tired', and I'm scared that something bad will happen next time I squat. Help! I recommend you just spend some time after each workout stretching, it's done wonders for my mobility (though I'm still no spiderman). Also, proper warmup. And if you still can't bend properly, stand your heels on some weights or get proper lifting shoes

gah weightlifting has suckeddd in the past couple of sessions
tried 120kg today for deadlift and my grip totally fucked me over. had to do 110kg and i was still having problems even though i was doing 115 last time just fine.
got knee pain so i'm stopping squats for now. gonna start when it stops hurting. had no progression on my squat for the last 3 weeks because of the pain.
i've been eating decent (gained like 3 pounds in last 2 or so weeks) but i've been generally feeling aches in my back and legs for the past 2 weeks.
hate to rant but last 3 weeks it's been so frustrating. hopefully my "slump" ends by summer. i shouldn't need to take a break while my lifts are still so novice... time to eat a fuckton and power through.

Get some chalk, completely fixed it for me. Steel isn't exactly grippy so a small amount of sweat just means it slides out of your hands pretty easily. I can't use chalk at my gym so I use liquid chalk.

The person giving me a tour didn't try to sell me anything and told me that I should keep running outside and stick to free weights which surprised me a bit. I hear so much negativity about the gym industry that I didn't expect that.
First workout there should be on the 18th after my induction.
Also got my blood pressure measured. I'm 115/53 and my resting heart rate is 45(!). The person measuring it was pretty shocked but I've never had any sort of problems with it and the staff member they called over said it shouldn't be a problem if I've had it all my life. Any chance that was a Virgin Active?
It was a Freedom Leisure. There is a Virgin Active nearby but it's too far out for me to reliably get too. I've heard good things about the nearby Virgin Active.

It was just a guess, as I stayed at my brothers in London and went to the nearby virgin active, massive difference from a Uni gym. The guys working there knew what they were on about when I saw one training a guy on weights and nutrition. The steam room/sauna was something I hadn't seen in a gym before, quite nice.
Was Freedom Leisure pricey?

It seemed expensive to me but I don't really know. I'm paying £41 a month which does seem high (note I am in the South-East which is the second most expensive part of the country after London) but it works out well enough versus buying my own stuff.
I've been to three gyms in this area over time and only one hasn't had a steam room or sauna but it was a really small place. It seems almost like a requirement around where I am. But then again, a lot of the gyms round here are kinda big. We have a bunch of huge leisure centres.

Ah yeah I'd imagine Surrey especially would be quite different. It's ok in Southampton but where my parents live in Oxfordshire/Bucks I was 1hr away from a gym with free weights.

Any chance that was a Virgin Active? We've got Virgin Active gyms in SA and they're damn good. They don't have quite as many squat racks as I'd like (generally two per gym), but they always have quality equipment and tons of free weights. From what I've seen, they also have between 5 and 8 benches per gym, which is nice. To add to that, they never complain when I use chalk and they don't seem to care if I drop my deadlifts either. Another bonus is that there are Virgin Actives all over SA so I can still visit the gym when I'm away from home. All in all, I'm pretty happy with them.

I remember seeing videos or tutorials on foam rolling. But I cant seem to find any ones right now and google gives me doubtful results.

Any favorite foam rolling videos? :X Check out MWOD (mobility workout of the day).
http://www.youtube.com/user/sanfranciscocrossfit This guy basically has it all right (in my opinion). Search the bodypart you are having trouble with and (i used to have issues with my hip flexors and glutes, was fixed within a week by this channel) watch the videos that show up.

That's not true. I'd take a week deload if I were you. I know it sucks, but a week off is better than a month injured.
also, reset your squat.

My squat's been creeping towards "powerlifting" rather than "oly" as I add more weight to it... stance was getting much wider than shoulder width, only hitting parallel rather than really getting down there... Reset the weight 10%, and made sure to go narrow stance, high bar, ATG on friday. I felt the soreness before my last sets were even done, in my quads and my glutes (hammies are fine. My hammies are baller compared to the rest of me) and then when I finished my worksets, I dropped 60 pounds and did another four sets "for form" - I'm still sore, two days later. I've been eating poorly because I need to go grocery shopping. Wasn't used to this fridge, and I let ~$30 of meat, milk, and greek yogurt go bad because the door wasn't shutting =(.
I'm not using creatine right now though, and i'm still weighing in ~188, 190, and lean!. Might have lost a pound this week but I'll put it back!

can anybody link me to liquid chalk? I'm done using cloth to save my hands from fucking slipping. .

You could consider getting "green" climbing chalk, that's a lot cheaper than that. I used to use the stuff in Colorado, it's basically "non-marking" shit.
http://www.rei.com/product/627550/metolius-eco-ball
I can vouch for it not marking shit up, and helping grip, I was using it on sandstone in places where marking chalk is banned, and it's amazing.

Starting bulking tomorrow, goal is go get from 76kg to 80-82kg (8 weeks, last 3 will be base smolov). Then cutting to 77-78 and hoping to be fucking ripped finally :p
