I'll see if I can take a pic of me to show what I mean (not claiming to be a better coach than Rippetoe though lol)

I'll see if I can take a pic of me to show what I mean (not claiming to be a better coach than Rippetoe though lol) That's the thing for me. As you say, Rippetoe isn't the very best deadlift coach in the world, but he's still in a different league from anyone likely to be giving me advice, so when their advice clashes with Rippetoe's, I follow Rippetoe. Also, he isn't rigid about the starting position, which is one reason I've stopped worrying too much about the specifics. Somewhere he says that as long as your back is tight throughout the movement and the bar stays over the middle of your foot, you're fine, so that's how I've been thinking about it. He does mention that starting from a squat position decreases your strength, so I avoid that, but other than that I'm fairly relaxed about the specifics.

I'm not even arguing from a training perspective because I don't give the slightest of fucks how anyone train, but to lift the most weight, someone with a good squat should obviously deadlift with hips low. Completely agree. I Squat more than I deadlift. Always had a better squat ever since I started. Because of that I deadlift with my hips low so that I can get as much leg involved in the start of the motion.

If you never lifted with a bar with a good spin, then you wont miss it. ![]() I have a good deal of money to spare, but I live in Denmark and olympic bars are really hard to come by. I thought about buying a Pendlay bar, but they seem really really expensive, and the bumperplates seem incredibly expensive. I'm still really weak and unsure if i can feel any difference in a mediocre bar and good bar

I was looking at eleiko when I bought my barbell but the cheapest one I found in sweden would be equivalent to over $1100 ![]()

i've gotten my younger brother to start exercising so he can put on a bit of mass. i don't have time to bring him to the gym because i usually come home pretty late, thus he only does the exercises at home. my biggest worry is his squats. currently he's already done 3x8 bw squats. my problem now is how do i increase resistance progressively without access to gym and equipment? he also can't do pistols because he has a knee injury wherein squatting too deep induces medial knee pain. we do have a pair of dumbells though.weight that can reach max of 40lbs each. i thought of putting those dumbbells on his shoulders while he squats but it's obviously not very safe. would weighted lunges suffice? TIA!
