Ive searched alot and the only thing I've found in terms of olympic weight lifting around me is NEPA crossfit, since they have 1 or 2 guys who are crossfit Oly lift certified. Im not interested in crossfit though. I just want to do olympic lifting. Should I just bite the bullet and go to try to learn the techniques? Also, I've found a classmate of mine who at least knows how to do cleans. (he assured me he knows what he's doing but you never know). I worked out with him yesterday. He had me do alot of supersets though, which Im not sure is cohesive with olympic lifting. I was also wondering about this program which was pointed out to me in the questions and answers thread. http://www.catalystathletics.com/articles/article.php?articleID=131 If Im going to add supplementary work (at least in the beginning while going light for technique) How should I structure it? push/pull, 1 body part per session, etc? Obviously my lower body isn't a concern considering this has you squatting every session in some way.

Spend some time with a broomstick to see how the oly lifts feel, then progress to a bar. post some vids so we can help too ![]()

It's early days yet but I'm excited about it and I'm confident I can still build/keep my strength with two workouts. It's a lot of fun learning these lifts and it's great to be learning a new excercise.

Does he actually write your programming/actively coach you outside of events? Is he kind of a dick in person? Just from reading his website I'm guessing this is the case to some extent, though I think he's earned his arrogance. Just saw him yesterday, i've spent a lot of time with him. I've trained at his garage/gym for a summer and winter and drop in once or twice a month or so when i'm in the area. He coaches me at local/national events. He doesnt really 'program' for anyone (besides his daughter). He helps me with my lifts and when a lift looks like shit (pretty often). I've also probably heard him talk about the biomechanics and physics of lifts for a good 10-20 hours (complete with pictures and diagrams). I wouldn't call him a dick but he's not exactly a people person. I lifted there for a good month or two before he started really helping me. Very unconventional coach in the sense he has a completely different view of the lifts than pretty much anyone in america (probably europe too) and doesnt say shit like "well at this point in your lift your hips should have been here and you need to keep the first pull close and finish the second pull more" he says shit like "there's no such thing as a pull. relax and move your body like there's no bar"

He was a very prolific writer for a few years with strong and controversial opinions but has been somewhat of a mystery these days Glad to hear he's still actually involved in American WLing. You're lucky to have him around! Do you still live in Greensboro?
