Its unbelievably hard! Im not even able to go 3x a week because my muscles are ripped into shreds everytime I went there but you can see and feel the first results already. Last time I was there was on wednesday and my fingers are still hurting enough to make it impossible to play sc2 LOL. Hopefully I'll continue the training for weeks/months/years to become a better person! Wish me luck!

I have seen people who had to duck out after half an hour the first class tear through classes like it's nothing after a couple weeks.
Just push yourself and stick with it.

3000 Calories a day consistently(half a gallon of milk a day helps for ~1200 calories if you can't eat a ton)
+
Starting Strength or other similar programs.
If you don't eat, you won't gain weight. Nothing you do can change that fact.
Take it from me, I can gain weight fast when I eat consistently and I have gained multiple pounds a week CONSISTENTLY since I have restarted my program.

I'm starting it as I return to school, which is in about four hours. I ate a little bit early this morning, but I suppose that can't be helped, as I'm busy the rest of the time =/. If you start it up, definitely post here and let me know how it's going for you, and I'll do the same.

Abs are made in the kitchen - you've got to get down on body fat %. But first, assuming you're the typical SC nerd, you're going to need to build up the muscles that are underneath there. Follow Funkie's advice.

Totally agree with this. Don't worry about abs until you have the mass to actually make them look good. If you have to ask when that is, you haven't reached that point yet.

I think this thread is getting to me.
Just got done with my milk, slammed down my cup, and thought how much of a badass I am.
Total TLH&F badass moment.
Must be the front squats.

Incredible what a couple of "good" months can do to you. I feel such a burden inside of me when I miss or skip a gym session .
It's like someone up there is watching me (decaf, you're up north, so I think that's you, along with, dimsum, drowsy, eshlow, phyre, rosa (miss you bro) and all others.) and is going to frown upon my lack of discipline and commitment to look and feel as a fucking monster.

First post in some time. Nice quoting skills by the way, Snapple.
First intro week of uni is done :D Girls are plentiful, beautiful and easy haha. That's the good news, bad news is that in the last two weeks I have only lifted three times SS style and the other three times I had to use machines, herpaderp.
Lowered the weights a little bit, so next week should look like this:
72.5k squat 85kg DL 60kg bench press 37.5k OHP 35kg Powerclean
Today was actually the first time I could rack the bar properly. Feels so good man. Glad I stuck with 'em, the stretching worked I think Still got some time to go before I can keep my elbows like 20 degrees above horizontal, but eh, the weights on my shoulders, not my arms.
So. Misc goals, this girl I'm smitten with. Other goals; start drinking WAY more full fat milk, eat moar (cos turns out I'm still growing, derp), not miss a workout in the next month.
Also my new gym is the mecca for powerlifters in the province, so many bodybuilders and stupidly strong dude. When I was done with OHP, I saw that the 200kg squat guy was still adding plates.
But my ass looks better imoimo.

Wow, impressive numbers. 23kg is quite a lot though, and I've read from a few articles that leangains isn't recommended for people more than ~15% bf to begin with. What was your starting weight and height, and do you think leangains was more effective than any traditional diet methods?

First of all, I immediately laughed and put that picture on somebodies fb wall who knows how much milk I drink.

You already have DB rows in A2, so what's gonna happen to them when you change from bent over rows to DB rows?

well thats if you go by the standard protocol doing 20%+ on workout days and 20%- on rest days.. i was eating at a hefty kcal deficit since mid may now doing as low as 1400 kcal on rest days (i fucking hate cardio so i never do any)..
as for if its better than any other diets then id say yes, im allowed to bunch up my kcals to 2 big meals a day or 3 even.. way easier to control your macros like that and setup meal plans instead of eating 2 eggs, can of tuna, some bread and various salads spread out over the day..
it took me a month or so to tailor the meal plan and macros so i stayed satiated for most of the day (though i get cravings like a motherfucker)
i started at 106kg, im 181cm tall and now im down to 83 kg currently

Band-assisted Chins: 1-1-1-1-1(kind of, was testing this for the first time and most reps were not strict) Machine-assisted Chins: 6@90 3@85 3@85 1@75 Overhead Press: 80kg 5-5-5 Squat: 180kg 3-3-3-3-3 plus 2 walk-outs with 230kg DB-Rows: 37,5kg 10-10-9
I am fucking destroyed, what a crazy hard workout. My squats are still a pain in the ass, but as long as I move weights in reasonable distance of my prior max, I think I am gonna be fine. Just have to push through this phase somehow. The walk-outs with 230kg made me wonder how I ever squatted 220kg before.

I'm not sure yet what i do, at the moment i think i will copy layne nortons PHAT routine, and choose one exercise like flat bench which i will do on A1 as a power movement 3-5 reps, and on A2 do the same exercise but with more reps. (Not exactly what layne norton has.) So i will start with bent over rows as a rowing power movement, and switch after a few weeks to db rows as a power movement, while the other stays as an assistance exercise on that day. Basically, i will copy the big movements on A1 to A2 and only thing that will change up is the assistance exercises. After a cycle i'll maybe switch up the big moves to, bent over row and db row, to yates row and seated rows for example. I'll hope thats understandable, cause, well it's much harder to type out than i thought it would be. :D
|
It's a bit confusing, but the way I understand you're essentially just switching the power movements (3-5 reps) to a similar exercise. I'd be interest to know what kind of setup you end up with once you figure it out. I did some research on Lyle McDonald's bulking routine and it looks interesting but I'm not sure about the periodization yet.
