He seemingly does. It's always a mystery because at some point in the past I may have done something rude that pissed him off, or he may just hate white people. Or he may just hate tall people. I don't really know or care to be honest ... I get the stink eye quite a bit here, usually from older women.
It's OK though. The girls who are mirin me in the street and the solid 9.5/10 I'm currently dating are excellent consolation for the fact that short beta men and ugly old women may not like me.

For weeks this one staff member at my gym would be giving me the stinkeye. When I was benching, he told me to attach clips to the ends of the barbell even though he NEVER enforced that rule with anyone else, and would have loud, obnoxious conversations with the bench bros who come in and hog the one bench press we have for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Anyway, one day he's giving my shoes the usual stinkeye and I say to him "What is it? You always stare at my shoes." He goes "I don't think those shoes are really appropriate for the weight room..."
Yeah. Olympic lifting shoes aren't appropriate for the weight room.
I told him to watch the Olympics some time and have been ignoring him since. I swear to god you'd think people working at a gym would know a thing or two about lifting weights.
I belonged to two gyms in Japan last year. Only 1 guy knew what was up. The rest blew donkeyballs (probably about 20 people total). I imagine it's just a part time job for most of them.

I do Crossfit and like it a lot, but gyms are going to vary considerably. Even at the gym I go to, some of the coaches are awesome and some are worthless. Crossfit with small classes and good coaches is like cheap personal training and major peer motivation without the commercial gym bullshit. They provide chalk, have bumper plates, and no one's going to bitch at you for lifting barefoot either. I could write an essay on my issues with it, but overall I think Crossfit is good.
Guys I'm just wondering what you stare at when you're doing benchpresses. Do you stare straight at the ceiling, or at the bar as it moves up and down or in between or what? I find that when I follow the bar a little with my eyes that that is when I can execute the best form. Also, how do you breathe? Do you hold your breath at any point in the exercise? I've been watching the ripptoe DVDs and he really doesn't clarify it there. I think the SS wiki says to hold your breath as youre performing the reps.
I inhale when the bar is going down, hold breath when pushing it back up, exhale when the bar is at the top. I have a spot in the ceiling that I'm watching and I try to hit it with the barbell.
I'm going to the gym for the first time in an hour, need to do some intake where they check my conditioning, fat percentage, BMI and stuff like that. But I just suffered a break up and I haven't eaten for like a week, dropped 11 pounds in that time. I feel weak, what should I do?

If I could.
eat, otherwise you're going to faint the living shit out of yourself if you don't eat.
I got into the gym when I just suffered an eye surgery and a really really hard break-up.
Moral of the story? Go to the gym to prove yourself that you're are worth more than you think you are. You will always surpass what you think you can do. and this is the best time to do it.
Go at it hard, eat something, and pound those weights.
On your bench press, pretty sure you look at the ceiling. If you're watching the bar, and you actually move your head, then you're not staying as tight as you should be. Or at least that's what I've come to understand. I inhale at the top of the lift, hold my breath on the way down, and exhale on the way up - that's how I breath on every lift though.
Dave Tate's Bench fix is an excellent video for bench press form, it's been posted in this topic a couple times.... search it up on youtube.
Well spring/summer is just around the corner, I finished my bulking 160 lbs to 185-190lbs. I gained a lot of lean muscle mass as well as fat. Anybody have any good tips for cutting? I really don't want to lose my hard-earned strength/muscle, but must trim the fat.

Are you really sure that you need to cut? Often you feel like you need to cut but then you may be wrong and just need to bulk slower the next month.
@Trizz: Force feeding yourself works. And then making yourself do something, like going to the gym, is a great way to get over the old relationship.
Keep lifting. Eat at a 20% calorie deficit on rest days and a 0-20% surplus on workout days. Assuming you lift three days a week that should leave you with at least 20% less calories every week and at the same time you should be able to keep your strength

Getting in the gym is the best way to get over a break up. Nothing to get you out of a funk like a good endorphin rush. Also it should build your appetite.
tried to max out on OHP @100lbs and i barely got the thing up to my chin. i felt so pathetic and humiliated for even attempting such a weight. i did 96.5x2 two weeks ago so i thought going for 100 wouldn't be such a bad idea. guess i was a bit too optimistic. the end result, i ended up just push pressing for two just so i could get some work done.
it just occurred to me that once you pass that novice stage, recovery becomes even more important. looks like i really need to increase my food intake, the quality of the food and get more sleep.
@Trizz: dude, i know it's tough, but nothing's gonna happen if you just sit around and wallow in sorrow. so get off your arse, get under the bar and make it happen! oh yeah and most importantly, eat!

Really not accustomed to this but this seems to be what is generally recommended. I'm gonna have to quickly skim SS before going to the gym tommorow. Oh yeah and I bit the bullet and joined a gym. It's a long ass commute but I feel like shit, I must look good naked this summer and I need more energy.

As long as your head doesn't move (and isn't touching the bench) it doesn't really matter where you look. It's recommended to keep your eyes where your reps end so that the bar goes there every time though.
SS uses the valsava maneuver for breathing for all exercises. Basically this means you don't breathe at all during your reps, only between reps. This makes it easier to keep your body tight throughout your whole range of motion. While other breathing can work, some things can cause problems, i.e. I see alot of people inhaling on the way down, but their bodies aren't tight until the bar is at their chest and those kind of things.
Relationship problems? Do SS and eat like a fucking horse. Don't have appetite? Drink your milk, and lift like a fucking boss? Wanna look like decaf? Fuck, Eat, drink and get drunk. Fuck si. Wanna feel better all around, make bitches call you a 10, and fuck like a 20? Do SS, Eat your milk, ask for advice, scream random shit, and be the best person you can be.
