Done with it now, he's got me on a 2 hour a week home workout plan, and I'm feeling/looking like, the best I have ever.
And on top of that I didn't have to wear the silly shirtless outfit at the engagement party, which went super well.
Great success!
Now if only the Trump administration would give fiance a fucking visa >.> Good friggen luck.

This automate the boring stuff is really quite good. Get a great sense of pride and accomplishment when it tests you by making your own program and you figure it out and it just works.

Yeah, I empathize with you Ketara, but I'd be moving the other direction.
In other news, my state's governor (Missouri) got caught in an affair and tried to blackmail the woman with a photo of her with no clothes on. I would say I'm surprised, but the guy has oozed dirt bag since day 1. He also had all his staff running apps that auto-deleted messages, and this is probably like tip of the iceberg in terms of all the shady/illegal stuff he's done.
I'm still laughing over the people who were like "I TRUSTED UUUU" as if the guy wasn't 100% transparently a scumbag. He's literally yanked funding from low cost housing for vets and homeless children and then posed with them like a day or two later for photos. There's a recorded phone call of him berating another GOP member running for governor for no apparent reason other than to be a jerk (they were trying to set up a meeting).
Oh, and the cherry on top is that this came out the exact same day he gave what is typically the most important governor's speech of the year for the state (the State of the State). Like less than 4 hours after. Yeeeesh.

Sometimes when democracy fails i try to come up with fantasy systems of a totalitarian kind that would be better. Its so pretty until you include selfishness and (un)will for cooperation. And crushed dreams.
|
Just make democracy digital. Let the people join a mandatory nation, region-wide, interest-driven forum. When people want things changed in their neighborhood, they make a thread, argumentation, debate and eventual poll follows and then change is made. There could even be a reward system. Like an IRL RPG.
|
But we already have reward systems everywhere, including hopping on facebook, imgur or whatever site is fashionable to read about people feeling miserable so one feels better afterwards.
|
So how do we make contributing to society more appealing than social media sites? Less taxes!

Has this meme now become an actual phrase, I keep seeing people use this line seriously.

Totalitarian regimes are a great way to pass reforms without having to worry about the dumb masses voting for changes detrimental to their own wellbeing. Of course, they tend to be set up or eventually taken over by people who don't have that interest either...

It's a rare feeling to achieve in this nihilistic, complex world.

Seriously its great, if people were interested. Maybe someone should found a new region where this is how it works. One problem is the people already established in that region though.

Something something israeli colonies in Palestine, probably?

I'm going to try theorize this out completely first though. People I've pitched this concept to have all reacted very positively. It basically enables the population to become 1) more involved, 2) have more power relayed back to them.

A large number of people are lazy and/or stupid. They're not going to read all information, they're going to listen to a small number of sources *cough cough Fox News cough cough* and just vote on what they tell them to vote. Or they'll make decisions based on biases.
You always see discussion threads on presidential debates and stuff but a large majority of people don't watch that. They're going to get the summary from a news article (which will be biased) and take that info. This would be no different, it'll be mob mentality sprinkled with whipped up emotions as people say whatever they feel like in order to sway people.
Unless you could have a system where everyone is required to have all information, all of which is true and verified, and people were required to show that they understood before voting, it'd be an entire shitshow.

I dunno if the population deserves more power.
I've always thought some sort of meritocracy is the way to go. The best example I think is that old dinosaurs who need help opening a gif shouldn't have a say in net neutrality. And I'm more knowledgeable than the general population, but I'm certainly not qualified to make That decision. But old dudes in parliament less qualified than i am are making that decision.
That shit is fucked. There are guys I work with that legit think net neutrality is "harmful communism stifling growth." These people happen to be in charge of the United States. Which is kind of scary. I don't have faith in a democracies ability to be engaged end educated.
I guess the question is how?

I guess the question is how? Well, that's supposed to be how America's system works. A Federal/Representative Republic. The Representatives we elect are supposed to be the best of the best, but instead we ended up with career politicians who don't really understand their constituents or things they're even voting on.
If you really make it a meritocracy and only some people get a voice, you get a riot and revolution. Either everyone gets a voice or nobody does, anything else is just asking for trouble. And even the latter will fall apart sooner or later.
|
How would a meritocracy be worse than what we have now? People could be elected based on how knowledgeable they are on power/economics/science/education/... etc. Not on how good they can talk to people/how much money they have/how notorious they become/...
Also, my proposal doesn't DIRECTLY give more power to the population, it more or less gives them more options to change society. I guess you could say the population would be more involved and it would be in their best interest to be involved. Let's say you want to put traffic lights near a dangerous intersection: you make a thread/argument/... no need to wait until it's your turn in city hall or whatever, depend on the city councils opinions to be swayed etc. All you would need is enough people invested in the idea. Also, I understand that not everyone wants to know everything, but the beauty of the system is, you're invested in local things: the school you let your kids go to, the supermarket nearby, the road you take to go to work every day, your job, ... There'd still be a government for truly large projects I guess, but that still needs to be fleshed out. I'm just saying that there's a valid alternative to our current form of governing/society when we have such a section of the population being devoted to social media, a governmental forum could be an option, no? There could be a huge, relevant interaction between population (individuals), governmental bodies and companies to solve problems digitally.
