![]() The more fish you eat with the more mercury, the most likely it is you will accidentally poison yourself. This is the consumer reports article in full, it includes a fairly comprehensive list of seafood and general mercury levels. Although it was made with people in the US in mind the general principle with mercury is that the higher up the food chain the fish is the more mercury it has. I'm sure there's other websites with other suggested levels of consumption too, this is just the first I found with a nice graph for canned tuna.

The FDA basically says that unless you're eating tuna sashimi daily and/or are a pregnant woman you will be fine. The guidelines aren't lax, it's just that you need to eat so much tuna to hurt yourself that it's not worth spending more effort to research. Just use common sense and don't make canned tuna your primary source of protein or eat a diet with stuff that bioaccumulates mercury (shrimp, swordfish, etc.) and you'll be fine.

Do you think I can fit my modeling and painting supplies in a carry on? We're already planning on stopping at the GW in Ikebukuro...

By that chart it's not safe for me to eat one can of albacore tuna. What?
