Honestly, the site is a better place without Sonnington around.
Sometimes the mods just need a token excuse to ban someone who's just a general prick and makes the site experience worse for other people (ex: Azarkon). The ban explanation might not seem sensible in and of itself, but taken in the context of an awful poster who just makes TL a shittier place, it can be excused.
Sonnington didn't get banned for shitting on kpop, he got banned for continuing to be a shitposter despite multiple prior warnings. That kpop-related posting was the vehicle for his current round of shitposting is largely irrelevant to why he actually got banned.

Lololol remember his first flamebait? Mods said it was fine.
Him being banned or not doesn't really make much of difference, I thought he was funny in an retarded m2k kind of way. + Show Spoiler +We still have nafta though...

Now you can take your hateful, misogynistic proselytizing elsewhere. I hope you find a place that can ease whatever pain, anger, or fear it is that compels you to write the things you do, in the manner that you do. The man just wanted to talk about female empowerment in kpop

It's the most action this thread has had in weeks tho

In any case I find it funny how his entire point was pointing out how sexist and lowest-common-denominator kpop is (stop the presses) but mod that banned him somehow turned that into being a misogynist.
|
did he ever contribute an actual post that wasn't his random kpop trolling?
|
I think the perception of misogyny came from the last sentence of the banned post that more or less stated that women should never ask men out. I was never sure what sonnington actually believed though.
Karis: there was also an... interesting discussion about tattoos. Also, IDK if I'm remembering this right, but I think a long time ago he used to post like a normal person.

Nobody asked him to be banned IIRC just a warning.
Misogyny is an overreaction. The fat shaming thing was how you argue for stuff that is unpopular in a true TL fashion. It was more of a vapid discussion of looks which I don't really think is misogynistic that is again seen in the tattoo comment he posted.
Sonny also argues from the perspective of the norm, either for or against and uses that to prove his point. It's a super annoying way to argue for anything as you can warp what the norm is based on cherry picked factors.

Oh yeah he's an obvious troll who shouldve been banned long ago, Im just allergic to calling someone a mysogynist over any unpopular view.

I'm fairly sure he proved his misogyny long ago with his tattoo posts, all of which carried a "subtle" undercurrent of "why would women do a thing that I don't approve of?" His KPop posts only accentuated that; they all carried a view of "I believe in this creepy and sexist industry."
But regardless of his undercurrent of shithate, the default response of this place was to IGNORE him. He was ANTI-dialogue. That doesn't belong here.
If you have issues with the ban, feel free to voice them in Website Feedback.

He got warned, but that was long ago. After his first stints he disappeared a short while, did a couple kpop posts in maybe a week and that time people got baited and the discussion was shitty, so Asmo and someone else discussed banning him. I think it didn't happen because despite the trolling you couldn't really pinpoint the posts themselves, or something like that? He still got a warning in the midst of it all and laid low for awhile. And he started coming back with these posts but got rightfully ignored most of the time.
I don't think anyone's gonna miss him Asmo, it's just that since he was ignored some people are wondering what made it banned? Or since the last time he tried that shit on a regular basis is awhile ago and isn't really worth remembering they forgot.

He was told to stop doing it and he continued. His entire interaction with the site was this bizarre and random trolling. If you feel some principle of justice has been violated take it to feedback, we're more than happy to engage there.

I feel like we've had decent civil discussions around certain nuanced topics here before so if he did actually want to have a proper discussion it shouldn't have been too hard.

As you've pointed out, some rules don't really make sense anymore, and we are currently in the process of updating those rules. An official statement will follow soon.
