I'm making this thread hoping that some higher ELO players will respond, because I would be interested in hearing what they would say.
I guess for me normals will usually have one team that picks standard/strong meta picks and one team will pick totally random / troll picks. (Not saying these can't be strong picks) That or one team might even mess up their picks, like by picking two mids or not having a support. Lol happens amirite.
Also I will generally play whatever role I feel like in normals cause it's not ranked. Can be fun or I end up feeding lol....
Another question is if you ever go into normals solo or if you always use the buddy system!
There's still an ELO system for normals right? is it the same as your ranked ELO or is it a different one?
... sorry noob questions... tell me if i'm not positing in the right place

I pick support Galio or Kalista and terror my teammates massively, then they carry me to victory. I never solo.

What division are you in ranked? Do you think players in normal are worse or better than when you play ranked?
Support galio sounds fun tho! hahah

the more normals you play the more it resembles ranked,
generally speaking the people who percive normals as a clown shoes zone have a corresponding mmr, up until players they can't outplay with garbage.

I think my normals opponents are a lot better about 30% of the time, and same the other 70% of the time.
Support galio is super dumb, he runs out of mana too fast in lane and has little to no utility outside of ult.

I haven't played normals in forever.
My main's normal MMR is somewhere around the high gold-low plat range for the most part, aka stomps.
My smurf had MMR somewhere around high diamond, before I transitioned to solely playing ranked.

... sorry noob questions... tell me if i'm not positing in the right place define "high" elo. I'm gold 1, most of my gold 1 matches have me paired up with plat 3 guys, but i troll so fucking much in normals (shit like akali jungle, or fiddle mid) I'm always playing with silver 2 and silver 3 players.

I play with "fun police". It's kinda why I have ~2.6K normal wins. Always 5 stack, queues can take a while at odd hours but teams are always competent.

Haven't played a normal games for 1,5 year. No friends to play premade 5's :\

My draft normal MMR is pretty high, so its just like ranked queues, gotten worse recently because of ranked banned players being forced to play normal draft

I think it means, they make sure the game is being played for fun, not for tryharding ?

haha, it's actually the opposite. It's a bunch of well known, high elo normal guys who are known to tryhard and 5 stack with other familiar names. Ehomda is probably the most famous one. Gandhisauce (used to post here on TL) also plays in the same group.
"fun police" refers to the fact that these guys limit, or police, the amount of fun for other players who blind normal queue. I think DkBnet, one of the best ADCs in the group, has like 4K wins and is like +1500 wins over losses.

Where ranked pisses me off, normals make me facepalm. If I don't play ranked I play with friends 90% of the time I guess? And they don't play ranked (they actually play ARAM most of the time so the normal is kind of rare for them) so they have no clue what to do and we lose horribly because teamcoherence or synergy is completely lacking. I try to shrug it off, but I'm a very competitive person so unless I stomp or it's an exciting game, it's a lose lose (stomps are just fun because you get to sit in their base at 20 minutes and it becomes some sort of game of who can stay alive the longest or how many times can you ace the enemy team before you get aced or something like that)

I'm so glad this group exists, just being really good and going and stomping in normals XD

For me, even though I'm silver, I still normally go 10-0 in normals.

This thread reminds me of a time where I played bugged Azir in a normal with Neo and got rekt because of it, Neo was like "I'm sorry, I play my normals pretty tryhard, I guess that's not for everybody :/" and then leaves lol
Then like a month later I'm playing another normal and Neo is feeding as support Fizz LOL

But on-topic, I usually don't play normals to tryhard. That doesn't mean I'm not trying to win, because I absolutely am, but I see it as a way to enjoy the game without the stress of being punished for not playing at my peak, and my normals MMR being lower than my ranked MMR reflects that pretty well, I feel.

Normals are boring, there is no reason for me to compete anymore since I generally stomp every game (last season Dia II), and if I don't I just feel like leaving because its depressing losing vs players that are worse then you 9/10 times. I play normals with friends because solo normals are generally used to improve, and teams which consist of plat -> master elo are generally who gets the higher ranks who wins, you don't really improve with that. I always randomly pick off meta champs like Xin mid or Fizz top, stuff that can work but aren't top tier, I still play to win but I don't pick the most op champs there are. I also trashtalk a fuck ton in normals, act fairly toxic to my opponents, otherwise losing or winning carries no weight and I have even less reason to try, trashtalking keeps the fun in normals for me. Its a shitty attitude I know, and I do try and not go too far (just stuff like: are you lagging? or XDDD when they misplay). I'm a cunt but its the only way normals are interesting, plus its probably satisfying if they beat me while I'm trashtalking all game.
Normal games have individual mmr and I think its related to your ranked mmr, Faker actually had so high normal mmr before playing ranked that he switched to ranked because he couldn't find normal games anymore.
|
normals are of course mostly for social purposes, but in game its a nice place to try new champs, and especially put myself in positions where i'm overextended or try risky plays to improve myself as a player. get an opportunity to better understand the limitations of the champ i'm playing without the stress/risk of losing much
|
The only time I play Normals is when Its more than two of my friends who want to play.
|
|
S3/S4 D1 here, I approach normals now the way I used to play bot games. Some players can be pretty good, but the overall atmosphere is super casual and no one seems to care about the outcome too much. Good environment for testing out new ideas, or for relaxing with friends.

This is kind of true. Its also true that more high level players play normals less and ranked more and this has the converse effect that you're more likely to find higher ranked players in low MMR normals game than you would be otherwise.
So basically normals is high variance. I am plat 3 ish support main. I don't like supporting in normals because my AD's almost invariably suck and because it will drive my normal MMR above my other roles
Generally its better to just ignore rankings and play, and not worry about it because its normals.

hilariously, alot of gold/plat'ish normals players take it very seriously and in my experience almost never condone experimentation. Regular sticks in the mud
|
Never really understood the ranked fetish, personally. It's supposed to be the premier game mode, but it's missing half the options you have with normals. Most gallingly, ranked dictates which and how many friends you can play with. As long as you don't care about the dick-waving contest, normals are just superior in every way.
Not to mention the crazy tilt that hits a lot of people when even the slightest thing goes wrong in ranked. I've had so many bad experiences with friends--many of whom I've known for years--becoming completely different people when LP are on the line that I will now refuse to duo with them. In ranked. They're still wonderful people in normals. Go figure.

I almost only play normals and a lot of teambuilder to learn and practice new champions. I've been playing with Shaco a lot and loving it.
The issue I have with norms vs ranked is that since I play fairly casually and only in spurts I decay too much ranked mmr and always drop into bronze and do the bronze carry every six months to mid silver before I stop playing ranked again for a while.
However, in team builder and normals I play with mostly golds, meaning even if my team is experimenting or trying new stuff, I have better games in general.
The issue comes up though when people purposely troll and feed. Not even just unconventional picks, literally feeding in normals then excusing it as feeding. I might try kinda hard when Im learning a new champ in norms, but I can live with losing its okay. Except for the purpose trolls ... sigh.
