People have held that we left Iraq too early for quite some time now. Was a major point made by McCain and other foreign policy hawks (whom I generally agree with here, at least post-intervention). While I don't necessarily agree that we need boots on the ground in Iraq and Syria now, but our response to either has been...lackadaisical, particularly in regards to Syria.
The primary issue is that the Obama administration felt, at the time, that the post-intervention political environment and the coalition government would be stable enough to last and rule on their own (and the decision was no doubt exacerbated by the economic crisis and the need to simply cut back on what has already been a costly, and relatively pointless, intervention); when US forces left the area, Nouri al-Maliki largely abrogated the religious and minority rights of the Sunni in Iraq, which brought them back as a major recruitment source for ISIS/Al Qaeda in Iraq .

Because there are really only 2 ways to deal with an insurgency, kill/burn everything or change the minds of the local population, which takes a long time, longer with cultural differences between US, a mostly Christian nation heritage wise and Iraq, a Muslim/less progressive I guess, nation? No idea how to phrase it to not sound racist:/

I've heard so many people say that USA shoulda never gone to Iraq, but why haven't I seen this opinion said ever? Because the cost of staying is pretty substantial. Plus despite popular the opinion (before the implementation) the "surge" worked. It's just matter of cost benefit for the US, most citizens are tired of it, spent way too much money in the region, at this point people just want to "cut our losses".

The main issue that besets Iraq has been sectarian violence, of which ISIS/ISIL is just another extension of. There are also other factors, but this is...kind of actually racist, yeah.

I've heard so many people say that USA shoulda never gone to Iraq, but why haven't I seen this opinion said ever? Since it followed Afghanistan, the prospect of being in another war was unpopular with a lot of people. Even more so when it went "Uh, so the reasons we gave for going into this war weren't actually...true, heh." people started giving negative fucks about wanting to continue the war. Add that on top of the obvious grievance due to loss of life and the sheer cost of being at war, people just wanted to be done with the whole situation.

It was my understanding of why, because I never bothered to look into the underlying factors because honestly, I don't give a fuck. I don't care about world politics, I don't care about national politics, I frankly don't give a shit about any political bullshit that gets spewed because it's all pointless and will barely affect me.

The issue with Irak is that after ending the Sadam reign theý lacked man power and economic means to 'force' stability and rebuild infrastructure. Creating in essence a second Afghanistan. Unlike the Korea war where the was political and militaristic interests in gaining control of the region and creating a strong economy in the region neither the political interest or the will of the people are there to do it in Irak.
