Always water, never not water. Lots of it. Except for, ya know, coffee (which is fine if you drink it black) and a Monster (do as I say, not as I do). I was about to say, this from the guy who downs Monsters on a regular basis lol

This right here is why I weigh at least 30 pounds more than I need to. I get so bored of water that I rarely am able to make the paradigm shift for more than a couple days. It's also why I've started drinking tea.

But it's the only sugary thing I drink outside of a very occasional soda! Which is far more than can be said of a lot of people. And even then, it's usually the Ultra series, so no calories or sugar (so, sucralose instead, but whatever shut up).

Dude. Get a large water bottle, fill it up all the time. Get thirsty? Pound some of that shit. Want to drink something else? TOO BAD. Being sufficiently hydrated with water feels so good.
I don't even know what "bored of water" could even possibly mean lol. The taste?

I guess... I've just never understood overeating and constantly snacking. But I guess part of it is that I was just constantly active growing up, so I couldn't eat like utter shit. I've definitely gotten worse since graduating, but still haven't really gained much weight. I don't get it either. I'm trying to put on weight and failing at that. How do people just do it without even trying ;( And here I am wishing I could lose weight if I wanted to. Well not at this instant since I'm lifting, but there are plenty of times I've been active and watching what I eat without being able to lose much weight at all. Trade bodies? The only time I've put on weight is about 2 years ago where I was kind of depressed and drinking a bottle of whiskey every week. Do you have fast metabolism? or do you just not eat enough calories?
I think it's just a fast metabolism. I used to do sports every day at school so that didn't help but at the time I was guzzling coke like a fiend too. Then my university is built on the side of a mountain and I walked to it every day(4 times a day in fact) so that didn't help. Eventually in that last year I was inactive, driving to uni and drowning my sorrows with alcohol and pizza yet only managed to put on a few kgs :<.
Now days I only drink water and cut all the crap while being active. Haven't lost any weight which I take as a plus though. Just need to start putting on weight now ;(

The fast/slow metabolism thing is vastly overblown FWIW, at least in the way it's most commonly used, which is as some kind of reference to thyroid hormone making a person burn more/less calories despite having similar everything else to another person(or they just flat out ignore the 'everything else' part).
Metabolism's literal definition is all of the energy used in chemical processes by your body, which means an athlete like Micheal Phelps that ran on 10k calories a day during his Olympic prep may actually have a normal thyroid hormone level, but his metabolism was ridiculous, because he was putting in an ungodly amount of swimming volume.
The far far far more important factors are the hormones that regulate appetite. The difference between Alaric at his tiniest and those MTG buttcrack dudes isn't activity level(both did/do nothing), it's that Alaric never felt compelled to eat anything, and they had constant little hunger pangs, which are most effectively dealt with by eating terrible, calorie dense foods, and drinking pop, etc.
When I started training people it became so obvious how much more of a difference the food intake made in comparison to literally all other factors. Put someone on a food log, have them write down EVERYTHING they eat, and suddenly it's extremely obvious why they are putting on/losing weight/staying the same despite 'trying' to do one of the others. Not that there are literally no exceptions out there, but it's probably an extremely tight bellcurve with really short tails, and the very few people at the tails have legit medical issues.

I always have a gallon bottle of water next to me, stops me from going out and getting soda.

definitely one of my favorite paragraphs in OT history

Why did you have to bring up buttcrack dudes. It's so nasty . Everything else makes sense. I know I just have to eat more but just telling someone to eat more is like telling them to "just get over it". It's not that easy sometimes.

Yeah, but the way we're using it now is that Sony used to be a college athlete who's apatite adapted as his lifestyle did and I, who was recreationally active, still eat the same way I did before.

Lady friend has become attached. She's not happy that I've spent the past 2 days playing d3 . I suppose I haven't made any time for her, but its been nice to recharge for a bit with just my own thoughts for awhile.

In your scenario, if he didn't have the water bottle next to him and got thirsty, would he just sit and be thirsty rather than getting something (presumably soda) to quench the thirst?

I know it's not easy, I was a stick figure in high school and my college coaches had to stay on me hard for me to gain some weight when I got to college. But I stuck through it and my appetite now pretty much matches my weight(If I fall back to old habits of not eating I get immensely hungry).

in hindsight I probably didn't make any sense but I reserve my right to do that once in a while
