I don't understand console gamers. That hobby costs way too much in relation to computer games and the reward is similar.
The last console I ever bought was a PS2 and I only got that because my PS1 broke and I wanted something that could play my old games. Now I can play those on my computer too. I even have a controller! So why pay thousands of dollars on console stuff when you could spend said thousands of dollars on trips to Korea to see girl bands?

Sometimes we want to play console exclusives without waiting months for a shitty rom that half works.
Or we just have money to throw around huehue

Trips to Korea, Req.
Girl bands.

That would require going outside.
There are bears outside, Ket. BEARS. And like, snakes and shit I don't know it's fucking scary.

For 50 bucks more you get a home media center. What's hard to get?

The difference is you need to have a computer whether or not you're going to be doing gaming. Your computer is already a home media center. And does gaming.
Doing gaming on your computer is a price increase of 0$.

A lot of people started gaming on consoles, and there's a lot of brand loyalty toward specific titles.
Though brand loyalty in video games hasn't been worth a lot in recent years, given how certain brands (such as one that this site is primarily dedicated toward) have not produced games up to par with their previous standards in recent years.

Doing gaming on your computer is a price increase of 0$. That's not really true. The majority of PCs owned at home are not serviceable for playing games that are less than a generation or two behind.
Obviously there's indie and retro gaming, but that draws a particular kind of gamer.

Buying a computer for computer stuff and buying a computer for top-end or even moderate gaming is completely different and is often hundreds of dollars in difference depending on what you need.
Consoles are more convenient and require little to no maintenance. What you do on your desktop (including getting viruses if you're a dumbass) does not affect your console gaming.

Which console is best for single player RPGs (think Mass Effect, Bioshock, Dragon Age, etc; also I'm not a fan of JRPGs)?
|
I used to say Playstation because Square games were exclusives, but now they're often not (FF13) and their quality has gone down as it is.

For 50 bucks more you get a home media center. What's hard to get? You don't need a 7950 to match the power of a PS4 lolololololol. According to PAX reviews, BF4 on consoles is rendered at 720 and upscaled to 1080 for your new fancy million dollar TV
A 7950 can hit 60+ fps with the same graphics settings as a console, but instead of some dumb upscaling I'm gaming at 2560x1440 native. Obviously a 27" monitor costs more than a TV but the idea is that with a PC you pay a premium to get premium graphics. If you don't want to pay the premium, you could build a box that per price outperforms a console.
The premium in consoles isn't spent on hardware, it's spent on sustaining a closed ecosystem and console branding.

Doing gaming on your computer is a price increase of 0$. Are you seriously being this obtuse again? Most console only gamers, do not spend 1k on their computers, which is probably around what you have to spend to play new AAA title at decent resolution/framerates/quality.

Not to mention, console gaming tends to be far more optimized for hardware than pc gaming. so less is usually more. Just look at graphics from when ps3 came out, and now, it's changed a bunch, despite no hardware changes.

pc gaming only costs real amounts of money if you're a chump and care about texture quality and that shit
but true men don't

Maybe in the $500-600 dollar range, you're looking at pushing 1k if you're taking in peripherals like monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers, but then you'd have to account TV/surround sound/extra controllers for a console as well.
Like I said, the draw of consoles (for me anyway) is convenience. You don't need to know how to build a top-end PC, you just go buy a console. You don't need to install a game and be connected to the internet (lol Origin and sometimes Steam because fucking offline mode never works), you just pop in a disk. No managing files or hard drive space, no upgrading a system as it moves on, you just hook up the 3 wires and sit on your couch.
People will ALWAYS pay a premium for convenience, and I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing. It's just the nature of entertainment, and one I willingly and happily subscribe to.

PC gaming is just effort.
On a console it's like buying an iBuyPower PC and then having some dude come over and install your game, update your drivers, and optimize your game settings for you.
If you care and put in the effort you outpace the console by far. If you don't care then it is a frustrating experience.
Kind of like the decision to buy a Mac, except Apple also comes with phenomenal service tacked into that premium whereas Macroshaft service sucks nuts

Did you miss the part where consoles render BF4 at 1280x720? You could do that on a 650 Ti which sells for sub $100 sometimes.
