hold on i'll find the english version
Why would you ever prefer the English version of that.
If you're gonna post something that's in English make it something like this: + Show Spoiler +
i would identify two (rare) reasons to prefer a dub to sub
1) use of english contributes to the setting in a way that japanese cannot ('mafia accents' in baccano) 2) over the top dialogue or banter that is more enjoyable to hear than read (panty & stocking with garterbelt, gurren lagan)
3) you like to multitask and reading subs doesn't lend itself to doing other things at the same time
No point watching a show if you aren't actually going to watch it. Might as well just do whatever else you are doing instead of ruining the experience. If it's a shit show then why waste time on it.

It was hilariously bad, and Goku's voice killed me.
Yeah I watched the 8th DBZ movie in japanese with subs. The one with Broly. Made me lol
I think I was just so used to Goku's voice since I had seen all the movies and every EP of DB, DBZ, and GT in English.

Sounds like the words of someone who can't multitask well. I've never had a problem getting the full experience out of a movie, show, or dubbed anime while also painting, playing handheld games (as long as they're not story heavy), or doing work.

That's the main thing that keeps from really watching anime, it's like "I have to pay attention for a whole 20 minutes? Fuck this bullshit" so I only really watch an anime when I'm like, really up for it.
panty and stocking episodes are only 10 minutes each (2 episodes released at a time in 20 minute blocks), you have no excuse
Oh I watched panty and stocking, that show was the fucking jam. It's mostly the more dramatic ones where I question if I'm in the mood to focus on the subs for 20 minutes
I don't think anime does drama well at all, but some japanese animated films are really good. I recently watched Wolf Children and Redline and those were the shit
It's all preference at this point. Long gone are the days of Manga Corps dubs from people who you are pretty sure are just the translator teams stuck in a booth and told to record or die.
Most of the dubs today are quite fine it's just hold over memories and folks who like to be cool so they say they would only watch sub's.

It's like keeping up with a sporting event with radio cuz you're busy doing something else.

yea I suppose, I just find the films to wrap up whatever story line they had nicely without too many frills but to each their own

There are a few that are universally agreed to have better English VAs than Japanese, even by Japanese fans. It's not unheard of, just uncommon.
all fair points, it's just that i personally don't watch anime unless i can be watching the screen (because pretty pictures) and prefer japanese audio out of habit, although i do think there are many more terrible english dubs than japanese ones
of the few anime i've seen in english, fullmetal alchemist didn't fit either of my original criteria but i did think the dub was perfectly fine

Possibly I tend to focus rather intently on what I want to. Does sound like you watch a lot of popcorn shows then though since that's all I can think of as "not story heavy".

I agree that films tend to do it better, especially if you have no patience for storylines/plots being dragged out or sidetracked. For contained stories, movies are better than shows/anime.
Though games trump both of them, imo. Games are, in my sight, the best medium for storytelling ever invented.
Speaking of dramas and films, my girlfriend showed me this Korean movie called Masquerade. It's on Netflix. Everyone should watch it.

Well, that too, but I was talking about watching something story-heavy and enjoying a not-story heavy game. Like watching something while playing Pokemon or Mario, you don't really miss any of the dialogue and if it's an important part you just hit pause and focus on the screen.
With subs you have to focus 100% of the time, even when it's simple dialogue with two people standing still.

I decided to try and stick it out rather than go to the clinic. Poppin' Tylenols and Advils so often I feel like some sort of medium level functioning Adderall addict or some shit. Then I slept basically all day. Hopefully I can actually get to sleep tonight and I wake up tomorrow feeling functional enough to work, because Thursday is a 12-hour day and that's not gonna be pretty.
Regarding mod notes: I can't believe Scip has zero actions. I was gonna brag about being the least-actioned person in this thread but fucking EU and his golden voice and sexual deviancy beat me.
I'm gonna try and stream tonight fo reals. Every time I say I will shit has come up (read: my guy) or I've been feeling like ass but we'll see again for tonight. Shelke at some point I will entertain you as you wither away in the cold wastelands of the north. Your suffering is not in vain.
I still prefer novels over games/movies. Movies issue is that you can't get inside a characters head and read their thoughts so instead you have to be explicitly shown things in sometimes not very subtle ways. Kind of my issue with GoT adaption. Games just tend to have shit storytelling for the most part. You do get a lot of good story games but for all the good ones you get a whole host of crap. It seems to be getting worse too these days with all the big budget titles being trash. Dunno don't like games for story for the most part.
