I really have not seen people complaining about lag or mines. Saying Serral is weak against mines says nothing about OP mines or lag. Maru played better than Serral. Is there a world where we can talk about a match without alway trying to bait other people?
Its impossible with these guys. Everything you say is going to be turned into something you didnt mean by purpose. And every single time timezones, laggggggggg, caring about tournament etc. are brought into the play. Then us "Western-positives" are blamed to be so biased by whichever of these topics they want to take on you today. Even at 2018, when Serral literally destroyed everyone, there were these same guys trolling that he wasnt "that good". It gets boring after a while.
In 2018 Maru getting 4 GSLs in a row, nothing else happen that year

not like the other side complains any less. I hear somewhat frequently that Clem does worse against korean Zergs because of ping

Thats BS, most people admit Serral was the best player that year. The only argument was that Maru had a better year in term of achievments. which Serral fanboys refused to admit

Well, thats really dependent on the day of the play really. But in general, Serral is really unstoppable at times and so is Clem. Of course the likes of Raynor, Dark, Rogue, Maru can challenge them any day, but thats all. And usually, if we dont count Clem, Serral has been unstoppable by terrans. Today Maru played very well (and used mines) and deserved the win. Its by no means a big upset, but bit surprising of course.
Dark>Serral in ZvT and Maru>Clem in TvZ. It has always been like that
I wont completely buy that. Dark is very good in ZvT, but generally speaking not as consistent as Serral has been. Maru/Clem is more close one, but generally speaking, Clem has been basically the only terran in the world, who could consistently beat Serral and perhaps Raynor too. Its hard to argue against that. Of course he also gets way more practice against them, so it is an advantage. And not saying Maru isnt great too.
are you counting matches played with cross server lag and across timezones?
Are you?
I don't count them as much as live matches
Then how does this tournament impact the discussion?
well it's actually played at a decent time for everyone (at least for the quarterfinals), so it's at least better than Dreamhack
They're matches played with cross server lag and across timezones.
yea I mean across timezones is a much bigger issue when it's 5am in korea, obviously when it's 10pm in korea it isn't such a big deal
So you arbitrarily decide whether or not to count matches played with cross server lag and across timezones after you know the results.

Is that an opinion masked as a fact? My pet peeve.

lol it's not arbitrary and it's not after the fact, I never thought the online Dreamhacks were particularly fair and I'm not the only one, I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that making competitors play at 5am is cool

According to Maru/GSL fan: He plays a fantastic series, out trading Serral everywhere and even out macro him, taking out hatches after hatches. According to EU fan: Mine is OP against Serral.

Game one Serral kind of headbutted with ultra while Maru endured with ghost and kept Serral on a slower base count.
Game 2-3 were fairly straight forward 2-1-1 with some good follow up and Maru eventually overwhelmed Serral in the mid-early late game.

It's not after the fact? Then why were you already preparing to excuse Maru's loss before the game?

They both will play cross server
right, but Maru doesn't seem to do so well vs zerg cross server or in online tournaments in general, most terrans seem to have a bit more trouble with it

are you saying you think Serral got the harder side of the bracket? because I haven't changed my mind on that, this top side of the bracket is stacked

So you dont agree that Serral was the best player in 2018? Because I think he was, but it is more debatable than the other statement for sure.
