The second rendition of the NorCal StarCraft Open will take place on Saturday, April 4th, 2020. Last August, the first SC2 tournament at UC Davis’ LAN center drew players from all across California, with Silky taking first place over IntuitioN.

Registration is free for players and spectators. We will also stream the event at twitch.tv/tiki.

Vite Ramen is generously supporting this tournament, which allows us to make registration free while offering a prize pool of at least $350 cash and product prizes. We plan to break down the prizing as follows, but may adjust if our prize pool grows:

1st place: $170, 9 packs of ramen, bowl, spoon, chopsticks
2nd place: $90, 6 packs of ramen, spoon, chopsticks
3rd/4th place: $45, 3 packs of ramen, spoon

We plan to again have a Swiss phase which feeds into a single-elimination playoff bracket.

We may adjust our format depending on how many players register. The final format and rule set will be announced at least one week prior to the tournament. We're happy to incorporate feedback and will be using the Discord server to keep players up-to-date as we make final rule decisions.

We aim to choose a format that is fun for all players yet competitive and fair. We encourage players of all skill levels to compete!

We will once again play from Gunrock Gaming in Davis, CA on the UC Davis campus. We recommend parking in the nearby North Entry Parking Structure. All non-meter parking will be free for the day (only the spots closest to the entrance are metered).

Gunrock Gaming has an entry on Google Maps with its exact coordinates. The address is 1 Shields Ave, Davis, CA 95616.

The center has 27 powerful gaming PCs with 240hz monitors (click for more specs).
Bring your own headphones as the center has a limited amount to rent.
You may bring a keyboard and/or mouse but only if they are plug-and-play (i.e. do not require driver installation). You will not be able to install drivers or any other software.
No outside computers will be permitted, and gaming PCs can only be used by tournament participants.

The space each player will have for their keyboard and mouse is limited; you would not likely fit a keyboard with a numpad. Each station looks like this:

We are keeping a close eye on the news about COVID-19. We will be following the guidance of the CDC and state and local authorities. As of now, we plan to go ahead with the LAN while following CDC recommendations, but a change in the situation may force us to postpone the event. If so, we will do our best to give everyone as much advance notice as possible.

We clean the keyboards and mice pretty frequently as well - stay safe all!

Hi all -- we've decided to postpone the tournament due to escalating coronavirus concerns. We still plan to hold the tournament once we know it is safe to do so. Until then, stay safe everyone.
