Predictions: Bracket 3: Soo, Huricane, Clem Bracket 4: Trap, Dear, Lambo Polt gets eliminated super early and all the Poltfanboys, that still live in 2014 are going to be super salty and Lambo plays vs Ragnarock in the lower bracket and it s a Clown Fiesta super close Series

It's his first offline tournament post-military, after nearly 4 years.
I think Hurricane did things there that a lot of players don't. Sometimes you get into positions where the usual RTS logic of when to attack or defend doesn't apply anymore.
That first time he poked at Clem's third base with just charge and storm was one of those, for example. Wardi and Rotti are right to question that move usually, it makes zero sense to expose your army like that while you're expanding and teching - usually. But Hurricane realized if he gives Clem the breathing space to take that third easily while he himself tries to catch up on tech and economy, he just dies a few minutes later. Instead he teched, expanded AND attacked at the same time which, because he didn't lose too much, kept Clem off the third for much longer. These are risks of course but from the spot Hurricane was in there isn't a way he wins without taking these. And he made so many smart decisions on when to take which risks and how to get back in. Very impressed.

Even taking into consideration Katowice's voodoo magic, the gap just can't be wider than ever: last year two non koreans advanced from the offline qualifiers and we are already at that number right now.

At this point I don't expect we will get more than those 2 and this with a rapidly declining Korean rosters...
Eu terrans really having a problem with foreign tosses that play agressive. To be fair its hard to deal with mkultiple stalkers, adepts and a early immortal at the 5 (!) minute mark

It would be much better if there were more korean progamers and less korean biased Sc2 fans, for sure.
Katowice's foreign presence has been declining throughout the years, in 2017 7 out of 12 players coming out of the offline bracket were non koreans; that has nothing to do with korean retirements and it is openly in contrast with the results we can observe in any other cross region tournament.
I can't see how the "Katowice is the only tournament with open bracket" argument can be any relevant, players get seeded to Katowice's open bracket just like they get seeded to BlizzCon's groups; once they are there, foreign players perform better when they have to get out of groups with the top 8 koreans than when they have to qualify through brackets where there mostly weaker koreans(given the majority of the stronger ones already qualified online).

Oh hell no, I definitely don't want another ZvZ heavy final bracket, I'd rather see non-mirrors later in the tournament especially since we've already had so many mirrors in the qualifiers as it is. Yesterday was basically all PvP for the first half of the day. Not surprisingly the only really GOOD series we had yesterday were the TvPs.

I guess all hope for liquid keeping their honor at Katowice is on uThermals shoulders . Missed most games today but Clem looked Sharp in game one vs Hurricane but made some mistakes in game 2. Missed game Three, really wanted to watch more of Clem.
Hopefully Nice wins vs Hurricane, taking out both Clem and Bunny only to lose would kinda suck But Hurricane proved he could beat Clem so it's kinda ok I guess?

Nice has proven himself indeed but Hurricane took down both Clem and Harstem. Also Hurricane is really good guys!
Uthermal funnily enough using ghosts against toss for the first time since his first series against Neeb at cheese last year. Clem went cloaked banshees for the first time in tvp and used the single scouting hellion uthermal always uses. But happy the youngster got Uthermal to use ghosts in tvp as well even though he said multiple times he doesnt like the unit. Thats what bootcamps are for
Lol it would be so funny if the World best zergs are in europé, World best terrans in korea and World best protoss in Taiwan. Tbh Taiwan only has good protoss players =P
protoss are just roflstomping terran left right and centre. Still dont know how uthermal lost the 2nd game. Killed all tech units, maxed out emp'd everything and then still somehow 40 stalkers were left over. You have to kill a lot of probes early game, he didnt and went behind. GG

That game was weird indeed. I wonder if he lost the main fight on the last map so convincingly as well.
First he take control of online SC2, then mister Bitter misteriously "cancel" and now he take Smix jobs, Apolo better watch himself, Wardi is comming for him.
But damn, thought that was over, Lambo was so close. Attacking just before trap's +2 att yet still not enough, sick defence and even without those ruptor shots it looked like a hold
I'm a big fan of Trap's ambition to blink 4 stalkers into 40 ravagers.

I think it has a lot to do with Serral's style. He's not only better than any foreigner (minus Reynor on some days), he's normally playing a very reactive and flexible style. He's also not afraid of going to the late game, some zerg players refuse to do that and headbutt into superior armies, which can work (Lambo did it just a few hours ago), but is very fragile.

I have seen it go two ways. Either you do not have confidence in playing standard game and try doing something that you would not do normally, or you have confidence and then stumble on something causing massive self doubt or lost of composure and struggle to get back into the game.

Things have definitely slowed down in the later stages of the bracket. ESL saves all qualifier matches for the A stream, so none of the B, C, or community casters are allowed to provide any coverage once each bracket reaches its zenith. Technical difficulties on-site here at the end do gum up the works a bit. But - first system with this coverage system. Hopefully it will be reviewed for next time, as some early-bracket games went unclaimed also.

They are having issues. So far, there have been long breaks but that was due to the overall schedule. They wanted to have the big games on the main stream, so breaks were longer if the b- and c-stream games took longer.

Maybe he dislikes something about standard TvP, it really looks like a very strange build. Basically, he's heavily relying on doing major eco damage to even get the build going. To make Thors work he needs a sick economy advantage, otherwise P can too easily outmuscle / outflank him.
But I'm not a terran GM, so I have no idea what I am talking about. Maybe he sees something nobody else sees and just can't make it work.

But Trap definitely deserves to be at the main event.
All that new player hype and thermy was still their best and brightest
The hype was mostly on Clem who showed great results online. Uthermal did too, but he's way more experienced! The Schlapper deserved a ro24 spot but certainly not at the expense of Trap, whose PvT is on another level.
Would have loved a format with a "wild card" spot from the 4th place finishers in each bracket, because each of the players eliminated in that spot could make a case for being in the RO24. Maybe reserving 1 spot in the RO24 group stage for this wild card, where they do a round-robin group with Heromarine/Impact/Nice/Uthermal to see who advances, and place them in the group with the strongest seeds.

would be something to do on Wednesday, which for some reason has no games

yeah it's that and the kinda anticlimactic finals day that are up for improvement for this tourney, the rest is great though.
I don't mind the gap day - allows for players to properly prepare for their opponents especially after a grueling day, and it makes it more fair to players who had to play today because otherwise they'd immediately have to jump into groups tomorrow, while players who played on day 1 are already guaranteed a break day.

He makes every group kinda awkward. But imagine him being in group A alongside Has and Parting.
That group is mostly Protoss anyway, sOs doesn't change anything there. But as a former teammate of Cure he really opens up the fight for top 3 something fierce.
1 out of 7 Terrans managed to sneak into the Ro12 last year. Truly a disgrace, letting him get that far.
But this year there are only 5, so I have the utmost confidence that the mistake will not be repeated.Terrans will be completely exterminated by the Ro12.

Qualifiers are just as relevant as the tournament for balance statements. It's way more games with almost the same skill level of players. Terran is always under represented in everything for years now.

It is known that the other races, especially zerg, simply have the more talented players. If serral played terran he'd find an equivalent for speed overlords to always scout perfectly and one for queens to defend anything no matter what build one chose. He would inspire other foreign terrans and tournaments would be tvt fests. True story.

In fairness I mean, Trap, sOs, Dear etc are all pretty good.
Doesn’t really help the Terran cause that Dream and Taeja didn’t travel either.

Scans and Cyclones
‘We’ve been listening to feedback from the community Terran more options in scouting for when they don’t have scan energy or have just Manner-Muled.
We’d like to experiment by adding a new upgrade, researchable on a supply-dropped depot called ‘Enhanced Structure Thrusters’ at the cost of 50/0. This will increase a floating building’s movement speed to the same as an observer that hasn’t had its own speed upgrade researched.
It will also increase the speed buildings lift off and land and we hope this will open new timing windows by making add-on swaps faster.’

They were underrepresented from the start tho, I mean, there are less pro terran than zerg/toss atm. And your statement is false, Risky, Razerblade, Vindicta, Marsman, Pappijoe, Zipper, Awers are playing alongside players like soO, Trap, Innovation, ptitdrogo, Clem, Ragnarok ext which makes it totally unfair as the skill difference is huge. We end up with terran having 63% winrate in 27 games against zerg. I am pretty sure you'll agree it doesn't mean much.
Edit : unless you're talking about online qualifiers Then screw me
I'd probably include the offline qualifiers in the stats. All the players are good, and some are better than other, but all in all it's a good representation of balance.
We should wait until the tournaments actually over, though. This is the first big tournament on the patch, so you can't just disregard it because Pappijoe exists, that's ridiculous.

If you really think about it:
Terran can build a proxy rax somewhere and easily scout with it vs P/Z cause both have lackluckster AA in the first minutes of a game. And it's cheaper than mule

Is it cheaper if you add the SCV time for which it's not mining?

Probably. If only for the reason that you can use it multiple times (or at least longer than a scan would last)
