Gonna keep an eye on Mana-Fanta, sOs-Cure, Keen-Clem/Heromarine to start the first bracket and Showtime-Stephano/Harstem, Scarlett-herO and Trap-aLive in the second one. I hope there is plenty of stream
bracket1 i literally don't feel confident with any prediction but i'd go sos, fantasy, keen
bracket2 ill go showtime scarlett trap, but the top half of that bracket makes me sad because i'd love to see scarlett, showtime, stephano all go through

Yup. This is going to be an awesome day and a really sad day. Plenty of top players are going to be going out early.
Unless KeeN secretly has good enough TvP to beat Dear and decided not to show it when going 0-4 against Dear and Trust in his GSL group to start the month, I have a hard time seeing him get out of the group because I would say he'd be a pretty significant underdog to either Cure or FanTaSy as his TvT results over the past year are basically limited to repeatedly beating aLive and generally losing to anyone else with a pulse.
I am going to do a "certain, likely, unlikely but possible" ranking, because I think that's the best and most useful way to make predictions.
Bracket One Certain: Dear. His bracket is pretty easy. Likely: sOs, Cure. Unlikely but Possible: Leenock, Keen, Heromarine, Fantasy, Mana
Bracket Two Certain: No one. Anyone could conceivably get taken out twice. Likely: Trap, Showtime, aLive, herO, Unlikely but Possible:Scarlett, other foreigners.
No chance I'm going to be up for the Bracket 1, but I'm stoked for the second. Feels good to have IEM kick into gear tomorrow. I even prepared and have popcorn in the microwave ready for breakfast. + Show Spoiler +
Mostly because I forgot to get cereal at the store, but hey, popcorn and SC is just as good.
Crossing my fingers for a few good Snute and TLO games to watch later.

at some point Maru vs Serral does happen though
only if he somehow manages to avoid all the good zerg players
idk, I think of PvZ as being sOs' worst but also the one we see him the least in. The only Zerg here who's consistently had his number throughout his career is soO. He probably can't beat Serral either. He should be fine against every other Zerg in attendance though.
It would be EPIC to see Serral vs Maru in grand final. Or even Serral vs Stats again. As my brood i keep my fingers crossed for pl stuff ( Elazer/Mana/Nerchio/Soul/Art/Geralt/Ziggy), but nowadays and after last balance Re:Generation shows it will be a slaughter for non-Korean players. Good Luck & Have Fun mates ...
I wish we had more tournaments like IEM. It has the same type of lustre as the WoL MLG days with tournament lives on from the start and super competitive brackets. Hoping for some great games and fingers crossed that FanTaSy makes it out!

i hope he qualifies to ro24. he has entertaining games and he's beaten maru on ladder before. maybe his 0-4 GSL round motivates him to prove himself offline

Fantasy flying all the way to Katowice to get Protossed out of the tournament is a sad state of affairs.
I don't think he has the time to get to the skill level necessary to make a living as a pro SC2 terran... he should go back to SC1 or retire or switch to Protoss or something

He's become much much better in only some months of practice. Pretty sure that if he keeps going like this he should become a GSL Ro16 regular.

To be fair, we didn’t really get a good gauge of Ragnarok’s strength in GSL because he immediately hit Maru, who is on another level of Terran than Keen, and we never saw his ZvP.

I'd be okay with games -> interview -> break rinse and repeat...they did that the first time iirc, and the rest have been games -> break -> interview -> break...it's a bit excessive to say the least.

They need to stop inviting a list of observers* to each game that are playing on shit laptops, the game engine only runs as fast as the slowest PC (if one player/obs can't simulate a tick in time, the game time literally stops until they do) and they've had constant issues with it since i started watching hours ago.

Hitbox yeah. Somehow when platforms have to pay people to stream on their site, the always dissolve a year later.
You kinda have to pay people to start out. Especially for streaming, you have to give reasons for the people to move over so you can actually develop a sustainable ecosystem. It usually fails. In terms of video hosting, I think it'd be a bit easier because youtubers are already trying to find ways to escape youtube

Most likely the game stuttering and slowdown is caused by the observers running on slow PC's. The game can only run as smoothly and fast as the slowest hardware in the game, even in an observer position.

Last year peak was at 40k. Also the average viewer is higher than last year but it does not mean anything yet as last year was a 10 hours show while this one is at 8h30 atm.
What did the finals peak at last year?
57k. We should smash that, but it's hard to predict considering the sheer hype of the Katowice Major in CSGO. Heck, I'll be watching Liquid during that myself.
It was a Zvp finals last year, and a rough 4-0, we should smash it easily, even more with a TvZ
Then we just need TY in the grand finals to show everybody the best that starcraft can be
zerg doom drops are cool, but a lot of games where they happen end up being "is protoss ready with a perfect army split? if yes, game continues. if no, gg" which is not really the most exciting thing as a viewer

they are playing on a mod that makes the skins not show up for the players so blizzard can shove their horrible skins down our throats without affecting the players.

I think Showtime thought it was a fake for a second when the nydus pop at the third pull his army from the main

Imagine TYTY vs Maru/Serral, and TY wins
Important to be in a private setting before fantasizing about stuff like that!

it's almost like defending a cannon rush 10 minutes into the game except the pylons are nyduses and the cannons are hydras

Twitch chat is always awful whenever Scarlett plays, its best to just ignore it.
They can at least limit the chat in some way (like sub or slowmode) if they don't want any mods to read the chat. If they do, ez 3 day bans on the people doing it bnet accounts linked for the loot
The nydus meta isn't exactly dominating but idk...it just feels bullshit
It influences every zvp, either there are a bunch of nydus's coming up or you have to play as if there will be. I think we'll see a ton more of them
On February 26 2019 03:52 Fango wrote: The nydus meta isn't exactly dominating but idk...it just feels bullshit
Oh yeah, they definitely over-buffed it, and considering the state of the ZvP otherwise, it's going to be used basically every game. A lot of games will be won or lost on the back of nydus play, which isn't exactly rewarding all the time, for either side.
Earlier they were putting some effort into moderating, bummer that they still don't do a great job when it's really needed but... I guess at least they tried a little bit for once. Maybe this year one org will finally figure it out.

On the other hand, your analysis is exquisite. ShoWTime isn't exactly sharp, lately, but there weren't really major upsets among foreigners' ranks today.
I mean PiG called him out and it went EXACTLY like he predicted.
Showtime looks good vs Terran and then just.... loses. It's inexplicable.
The only explanation I can even try and muster is that European Terrans are just THAT rare and THAT bad that he just never gets the practice that he should so that when he actually meets quality Terrans, Korean or otherwise he just doesn't have the honed practice to really know how to put them away.

Really doesnt, you can do a whole macro cycle and come back to your zealots chasing terrified units :D

well to be fair a T army up two upgrades with equal tech (ghosts vs HTs) should indeed not lose

Upgrades are enormous for bio, lings, zealots etc. It's a massive uphill battle for all 3 races if you're fighting with those units while down multiple upgrades.
Rotti specifically mentioned gateway units because it was the P playing at the upgrade disadvantage but i see no reason to make it about racial balance.

I don't think Alive was microing that badly, but he was definitely trying to do too much when all he needed to was to focus on the main push. After the big early game advantage he should just get 2/2 and bunkers, what could hero do then? Roll over and die pretty much.

yeah I don't get why he never got a defensive stance. It's not like he didn't know herO was kinda broke too, with no forges. Just get bunkers indeed.

Strange, I only recall not paying attention to my warp prism filled with HTs for 1 sec and 5 marines sniped it.

He kept trying to push out and counterattacking while knowing just how few probes herO's got. Probably pressure got to him that he didn't notice the lack of forges but yeah, once you saw herO keeps trying to attack you, why not just stay back and maybe build a bunker at the third?

rotti is objectively among the least biased casters. of course he sees things from the protoss POV because that's his race, but he's aware of his own biases, calls them out, and also counteracts them by making valid points from the other races' perspective too. if you've ever watched him stream you know that he has a pretty great competitive attitude toward balance

I dunno how you objectively measure caster bias. Personally I also don't think he's that biased relative to his peers, but I don't think that's in any way objective.

Hire random-only casters or casters who obviously don't play the game and we're good

I don't disagree with this - it's just something I noticed that the Protoss POV he sees the game from sometimes shines through despite his best efforts. Not really a criticism though, the only casters where I couldn't tell which race they play if I didn't know are probably Tastosis.

when people say "objective" in this context it means that i have made an effort to consider the subject from multiple points of view. this is common usage, and you should probably adapt to it since we are not writing essays or performing experiments

If I was Alive I'd be working on my angry Battle net post right now.
I'm more of an aLive fan but I predicted herO to advance out of the winner's bracket. I don't know what the hell is up with ZvP right now, but the fact that Scarlett and especially Ragnarok wrecked this group so bad completely busted this portion of my bracket.

Have you made an effort to consider the subject from multiple points of view? I couldn't tell. 'Objectively' evaluating caster bias is about as objective as appreciating art objectively.

I think it's just common misusage of "objective" to mean "of the majority opinion" nowadays, the same way "literal" became literally "figuratively."
But even if so, I can't see how one person can claim to represent "of the majority opinion," so I'm with Zigg here
