But yeah he should have totally switched to a colossus drop when he got scouted. Dark would never see that coming.

Dark will be stomped by Zest.
Zest is best Zest is best.

can't believe het got out of his group and sOs didn't.
this is why sc2 needs more seeded players. no one cares about trust or aLive if there is a possibility to watch sOs or Maru. Qualifiers are still too volatile.
How can the Blizzcon champion not play in the ssl ?

well executed by Dark but Trust didn't look good at all. How the hell did he have only one pylon for all his production in game 2? And that opening in game 1 was really risky. I don't think Zest will go down as easy as that

He won Blizzcon 8 months ago in a different game. There was no basis to seed sOs into SSL.

1/ different games so the fact he's Blizzcon champion is not relevant 2/ round robin group of 6 qualifiers is like as not volatile as you can get in sc2. Blame sOs for underperforming that day and losing to Trust in the decider.

Zest always knew where alives army was and alive didn't know anything about Zests positioning. I don't know why alive didn't send a single marine down the middle lane if he planned to be aggressive via the top lane

yeah probably roach ravager

did Zest pylon block a base? Because when that happens to me I expand to 3rd, make a roach warren and roach rush for the Protoss tears.

Ok Dark lost, shouldn't have taken a 3rd base if he was planning to all-in in the first place.

Well now that he already has 2 cyber cores he might as well go mass air.

Dark seems to have a lot of faith in his macro ZvP

He did, but I like that vs zerg. It's easy to fuck up against ravager/ling sometimes, but no real way to screw up with mass blink/sentry and a 4th base for safety

I think if Zest had waited with the sentry drop until charge was done Dark's main base would have been rekt.

Dark plays against Group D not Group B? unless they changed it...

As much as i despise zerg, that was actually just a good adjustment by Dark. When Protoss opens stargate and then gets glaives that timing is the only thing he could be doing, Dark just reacted well.

LP says 1st place A vs 2nd place D though
Damnit Zest I wanted you to advance before I have to leave for my exam.

I heard ling/bane and was like, "there really are people who still die to it?" but the circumstances make sense

He could just macro out of it though after holding that.

this is why sc2 needs more seeded players. no one cares about trust or aLive if there is a possibility to watch sOs or Maru. Qualifiers are still too volatile.
How can the Blizzcon champion not play in the ssl ?
He won Blizzcon 8 months ago in a different game. There was no basis to seed sOs into SSL.
the world champion should always be allowed to play, since he is the champion for ONE year.
personally i'm only watching games with players i follow (Maru, sOs, Dark, Byun) If my favorite Players isn't playing, i just do something else. It's the same in every other sport, i just watch my favorites teams or players.
So because of this shitty qualifiers i have no interest in watching ssl. i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one prefering a group with "Maru, Dark, Zest and Classic". i just don't care about a lot of players. (the whole foreigner scene for example) Even if the big guys underperform, the games are much more exiting than watching trust getting stomped by dark in 5 minutes.

that build by aLive is so oldschool, I like it

He was doing a 3gate adept attack, so it does suck that it got interrupted. It does help that aLive himself was planning an aggressive moveout that he had to back out of, so they're somewhat even

G1: Dark tried a roach/ling all in but it did essentially nothing, Zest macro'd up and killed him G2: Dark defended a pre-lurker attack without really taking any damage, did tons of damage with lurker drops but then Zest did really well with superior army movement. Just didn't have the economy back at home to deal with the BL transition. G3: Dark did a ling/bane/queen all in, but then decided to all in again behind it, while Zest counterattacked. Dark killed the third, held the attack, won the game. By the time his adepts shaded into banelings, it was essentially already done.

I prefer the way Olli describes it, those games were entertaining and stuff was happening. Especially the 2nd game, lots of good army movement by Zest, never overcommitting but always being active on the map. The 3rd game was really scrappy and fun to watch as well

I prefer the way Olli describes it, those games were entertaining and stuff was happening. Especially the 2nd game, lots of good army movement by Zest, never overcommitting but always being active on the map. The 3rd game was really scrappy and fun to watch as well
I loved the first stage of the all in. Ling/bane/transfuse vs adept, msc and oracle micro, baneling drops into the main vs really fast probe splits and warpins

Thanks for the recap.
Just a curious note: I notice that the term "allin" gets thrown about to describe heavily invested attack. But isn't an allin by definition a 'flip' which decides the match there and then (at least in poker)? If the allin failed but merely puts the player far behind and capable to mount another allin or macro up, can it really be considered an allin? Shouldn't an allin be limited to really extreme plays like 4pool in BW or one base vs two base plays? Just curious on your thoughts.

An all in to me is a strategy that, if it doesn't do the damage it's designed to, will have no chance to win the game.

In poker an allin isn't necessarily a flip (in terms of chance to win), it's just when someone bets all his chips (ie, either i win this pot or i'm out of the game). That's also basically what starcraft allins are; you either deal game-ending damage or you're out of the game.
Of course in poker it's easy to tell if someone gets busted or not, in starcraft defining game ending damage can be trickier.

It doesn't have to be game-ending damage in my book. Say you're on two bases and committing to killing a third base and if you succeed, you stay alive. That's not necessarily game-ending, but you get to continue the game. If you fail, you're dead. That's also an all in imo.
That's just my definition though. Maybe my interpretation is a bit liberal.

Yea if the game continues on somewhat even foots you could compare it to a split pot in poker, i guess.

Sure, 'flip' isn't the best word to use, my mistake. You could have the nuts and allin and be 100% of winning.
Probably 'bust' is a better word. The attack either kills the enemy or you go bust and lose. So a heavy committed attack that fails and leave you far behind isn't necessarily an allin (in poker it would be like putting in 80% of your chips in the pot and losing - you're way far behind but still have a slim chance of coming back). I know we may be pulling hairs here.

why would you ever fight dts with workers? He could have pulled and not taken any damage if he micros his stalkers
I'd consider that attack by Zest an all-in as well. Trust went for all the tech units while Zest went mass adept-stalker. If Zest doesn't kill him there Trust will have the way better army so he had to commit and subsequently lost the game

Zest, stop fucking throw away your mass adepts.

I could see TY maybe beating Zest in a close series since it is a teamkill and he has historically struggled in them. Then again Zest hasn't lost a bo3+ PvT this year so I wouldn't give TY a great chance. TY probably has a better chance against Dark.

jeah it is better for TY not to finish first in his group with zest pvt and the teamkill and vs dark he has great tvz and dark struggles in zvt

TY doesn't have the best TvZ and Dark has been so far schooling him in LotV.

Yeah but I'd still agree he has a better chance vs Dark. Zests PvT is still just stupid good.
Also thats another RO8 for his streak.

Dark & Zest advancing - who would have thought

Yeah, kinda insane how Zest crushed + Show Spoiler +aLive in the game where a quick Cyclone sniped his probes and his DTs got scouted, and yet he still managed to macro up and take a supply lead mid-game.
