Before the games in the interviews zest says TY cant play late game and that he will exploit TY's weaknesses.
In the two late game macro games of the series TY absolutely demolishes Zest, showing Zest just doesnt know what to do in the late game and cant keep up with the drops and the multitasking.
And then TY decides that rather than take it to the late game and win he would rather repeatedly do late 2 base all ins that no one does using random stuff like 1 thor over and over?
And in the last game TY just makes a series of mistakes that is very hard to swallow. He then finds himself behind but still in the game, what does he do, take it to a macro late game where zest can't keep up or "throw" his units out?
Yea right.

It's TY's first finals in 9 years, and his mother and longtime fans, as well as mentors came to watch him play.
You try having all that pressure on you and beating the best Protoss player in the world.

All of the games were pretty fast, i wouldn't call any of them lategame IIRC. Game 1 had Zest w/ fourth base but he took it at 5:30 and died in the next 5 minutes or so.
This was a game of very high economy, medium supply and low tech - "Lategame" typically means high tech and high supply
kudos to TY for doing something no other Terran could do to Zest this year. gods can bleed.. but it wasn't enough. i would have loved to see one more game between them, game 7 macro. then it would have been the best finals ever.

not sure of meant to troll or what
To the one saying this was strange, TY's nervousness has shown since the moment he walked out on the stage, and Zest's look confident like the stage was his home, that's the difference that made TY lose and Zest win
I don't think it's particularly strange. Even before the games started it was clear that TY was very nervous, while Zest looked super confident. It was that overconfidence that lost Zest game 1. He stretched himself to thin, thinking he could get away with it by keeping TY scared. He put down his fourth and double forge before his extra gateways. TY played amazing, but the loss was mostly on Zest. From then on, it went pretty much as expected, TY prepared builds to kill Zest before we get to the late game where Zest is unbeatable so far, but Zest kept calm enough to defend and crush TYs attacks (blink control vs that Thor + marines was extremely good, by the time the attack hit there were only two marines left).
It was a very good idea. TY wanted to put Zest into an uncomfortable position through non-stop aggression and to force mistakes out of him. We've seen this approach make miracles happen before (Life vs. INnoVation from last Blizzcon comes to mind), but Zest was too strong mentally and couldn't be broken. And TY also stated (I think it was before his ro.16 group) that he almost never wins during practice, so that had to have factored in to his mental state (that also could explain why Zest seemed to overplay his confidence pregame, trying to scare TY even more, which would have been brilliant had he won that first game), along with the pressure of his first finals, and everyone he cares about watching him play.
Sky Shield was an expected exception, it was hard for terran to not win it, especially with TYs mass liberator playstyle and trademark multitasking. I really hope he doesn't break now, and that he will continue to perform like this, Maru needs some competition. Zest is now probably proven that he is the best player in the world. We'll know for sure after the cross-finals. Overall it was a great show, afreeca really put in some great production and effort into it, the games delivered and I hope the next season will be even better.

Game 1 was 20 minutes long and Zest had storm and tempests. How much higher tech do we need for late game? If anything, these 2 bombed their armies and economies to oblivion trying to kill each other until the game ended at less than 100 supply each, but it was late game at some point before that.

Pretty good finals. A step up from the one-sided Ro8 and Ro4. A bit disappointed with how it turned out and the way TY lost the last two games. He showed in the first matches that he could play the long game.
Glad I watched the VODs though, because the three hour cast had around 1 hour 20 minutes of gameplay.

I don't think it was a "proper" late game though. It was overall pretty scrappy, which played into TYs hand, with the multitasking and overall style of play.

It was atypical, but that's what made the game great.

I made no accusations so if TL mods could stop handing out infractions like they're traffic cops at the indy 500 thatd be much appreciated.
I hear what everyone is saying but if we go with this version that TY had somewhat of a psychological breakdown, then the result from this series is that TY is the better starcraft player under normal conditions. Zest is more in control of himself pyschologically and didn't choke, good for him, but cheeses and his opponent making game throwing mistakes aside he showed he's not on the same level of multitasking in starcraft. He deserves the championship nonetheless.

Unless you define "late game" as "two deathballs collide into gg" I'm not seeing how scrappiness, or lack thereof, is relevant.

All I said it was not common. Which we agree.
Well, no, you said it wasn't "proper" lategame, not that it wasn't common.
Back and forth slugfests seem to be far closer to the norm in LoTV TvP (when the terran doesn't die in the early game), so I wouldn't even say that this sort of game is uncommon.
