Good format to encourage foreign players
if I understand this correctly he just won 1000 CNY (152 $) just by winning this first game against Zest. Really cool idea for the prize pools, every map counts even more than in normal boX series.

iAsonu. Probably the best Chinese Zerg tbh. Definitely the most talented.

Yup The chance for advancing in a group like this is minimum for IA and Jieshi but they still have chance to get some money Creativity™ Hope we can see more tournament in this format
I just realized that they use the new ladder map pool, wooow, I want to watch these games but my school blocks Twitch. Will the VoDs be available later or is it sub-locked?

VODs will be up on all the twitch channels and I believe the English stream does not even have subs up so you are good.
wow mystery is demolishing ty o_O it took me a while to realize that alphago on KR was mystery, played him a few times on korea ladder and he played quite well there too

btw, did not expect this by TY!
Honestly, after he missed scouting the proxy oracles by 1 pixel, it's a miracle he even reached 165 supply in that game. He should have been dead a lot faster. That was a pretty impressive almost recovery.
man, i hate to complain about production in casts because i know community casters aren't made of money, but the audio levels on the english casts for chinese events are always so bad... if i set the volume high enough to hear them talk normally, it blows the fuck out of my speakers if they ever start yelling (disruptor hits etc)
Actually it's kind of brilliant. He kills the cooling towers and makes a depot there, then a depot at the back entrance to his main, and then with a 3-rax opener, he's basically invulnerable to any Protoss shenanigans, because the access points to TY's bases are closed off. Which means every attack by ground will take a long time to get there, and any attack by air runs into 20 marines.
Well, this rematch wasn't even close. Like it should have looked the first time, basically.
Hey, wait a minute. I'm looking at the results in the OP... TY earned more money today than Zest? Dafuq? There's got to be some bonus to winning the group, right?
The monetary payouts for map wins may act as a kind of perverse incentive... The best outcome for players is to lose their first series 2-1 and then win their next 2 so that they win 5 maps in total. In addition, why did Zest get less money than TY?

I agree. And it's kind of ridiculous that TY gets more money for going 0-2, 2-0, 2-0 than Zest does for winning the group 2-1, 2-0. So I hope he gets an extra for winning the group.

seems no bonus
I'd argue that a higher seed could be seen as a "bonus" as you're likely playing an easier player and more likely to earn more money

That's a pretty theoretical approach to it. There's no guarantee you'll get an easier opponent if you win the group than if you take 2nd, and thus no guarantee you'll get more money at the end. But as 2nd place, you can at least guarantee yourself to get more money than the guy who wins the group by going 1-2, 2-0, 2-0. Even if it's just for a round.
Look at it this way - if from now on Zest and TY have the same results every round until they meet each other, TY will have earned more money until then, despite losing more. I'm not sure that's how the system is supposed to work out.
it's inadequate that 2nd places get more money than 1sts but I love the idea of taking mapscores into consideration for the prize distribution, I really hope more tournaments will do something like this.
Do you want more money in exchange of the risk of being cheesed out in the loser's match, and face potentially stronger opponents in the playoffs? Or take less danger by advancing first, but taking less money since you play less? At the end of the day it is only $150 difference so not that a big deal imo.

it can(/should) be optimized but yeah at the end of the day huge props to KFC for putting up a larger spread than usual and large prize pool for something online
