I'm excited to announce a new online tournament series for players from the Americas, the Filthy NA Cup Weekly!
This is a $100 prize pool weekly online tournament, open to all citizens and Permanent Residents of the Americas. Every 4th weekly tournament will be open to ALL players globally. First place every week will receive $75, with $25 going to second place. There will also be OSC points awarded for the top 16 finishers.
The next of these cups will be held:
If this goes well, I may hold larger cups less often as well (monthly? quarterly? tbd).
Stream: feardragon64 (English)
Casters: feardragon
Where: The chat channel is FilthyNACup. All games must be played on the NA Ladder. If there is any contention about which NA server to use for a game, the Central server should be used.
Define American Players: Citizens and Permanent Residents of the Americas: North, South, and Central American countries. No VISA holders. In cases of question/debate, this will be left to the discretion of the admins. Every 4th event will be open to all players, globally. The first such Open event will be Feb 13th, 2016.
Global Cups: As mentioned above, every 4th week will be open to all players Globally. The first Global event of 2017 will be on the 3rd of March, 2017. In addition to being open to all players everywhere, it will also have DOUBLE the prize pool ($200, with $150 for 1st and $50 for 2nd) and even more OSC points!
Format: The format is bo3 for every round until finals. The finals are a Bo5. Single Elimination.
Check-Ins and No-Shows: All players must check in for their match in advance via Challonge. Check-ins begin 30 minutes prior to the event start. Players have 15 minutes from the start-time to show up for their match. This means AFTER you check-in, you have a 15 minute grace period to show up to your match. It does not mean late check-ins will be allowed. Failure to do so will result in a walkover/forfeit.
Forfeits: If you forfeit in the finals, you will not receive prize money. In addition, if you repeatedly FF your matches (past the first round), you may be banned from future events.
Maps: Map pool is current blizzard ladder maps:
Vetoes Vetoes work as below:
If your name is higher on the bracket you decide if you are A or B.
Player A Veto Player B Veto Player A Veto Player B Veto Player A picks map 1 Player B picks map 2 Last map remaining is map 3.
Vetoes for finals work the same, but with only 1 veto each instead of 2.
Results: Players are expected to report their own match results on challonge. Players also must submit replays of their matches via challonge.
Personal Streams: Players are welcome to stream their own matches, however ALL player streams must have a minimum delay of 5 minutes. Also, players *may* be asked to stop streaming if their streams result in lag issues in-game.
Prizing: 1st: $75 and 120 OSC points 2nd: $25 and 60 OSC points 3rd + 4th: 30 OSC points each 5-8th: 10 OSC points each 9-16th: 5 OSC points each
OSC: I am super excited to announce that we're partnering up with OSC to offer OSC points and other awesome incentives for participating in the Filthy NA Cup Weekly!
NA + L.Am players gain 2.5 bonus Participation points, which counts towards $1200 Participation Competition.
ANZ + SEA players gain 2.5 bonus Participation points, which counts towards $1000 Participation Competition.
Plus there are $ Bounties for NA + SEA Players

What is OSC?
For those who are unaware, The Oseanic StarCraft 2 Championship Series (OSC) is the Oceanic, South East Asian, North American and Chinese regional championship, which follows a yearly season format, where players earn points for placing in all partnered tournaments. Although the network is based in and focuses on these regions, many events are open to everyone in the world.
The top 50 players ranked via the OSC World Rankings at the end of the season are invited to play in the minimum $10,000+ Grand Finale to determine the yearly champion! Players can also win OSC bonuses such as $ Bounties, Participation $'s and bonus points for competing in partnered events like the Filthy Weekly! Play OSC and Win!

Folks of all leagues are welcome, but be warned that I expect some high GM players to be in this thing.
|
No problem. This is what NA servers need though to spark that drive for the game again. Thanks for the tourney!
|
LOL no permanent residents allowed?? That's more strict than a US Govt employment requirement.. FilthyRake Trump supporter confirmed

lol, I am *almost certainly* going to relax this so we can allow folks like MaSa in - just going super strict for week 1 to see how it feels/works first.
|
Sounds awesome, good luck : ) If you ever need help with coverage would be happy to some time!

Well I'm in, see you on the 23rd.

Nope, no SEA players - this is purely an NA tournament. Sorry!

Good luck with this! Love the idea

Great, thanks for your contribution to the scene!

Hey guys, I am SUPER excited to announce that we're partnering up with OSC! What does this mean? Well, I've updated the original post with all the relevant details, but the key changes are:
1: We are now awarding OSC points for the top 16 finishers every week 2: Every 4th Cup will now be open to all players, globally!
Huge thanks to the guys over at OSC for working with me to make this happen.

Hmm what server is the global cup played on?

Still on NA - There's no "fair" server for everyone in the world.

NA is a region.
What server on NA?
|
Undecided. I'm tempted to say East Coast. That's good for EU but bad for KR. I'll let you guys know, but if you have strong feelings about it I'd be happy to hear them.
|
Just a friendly reminder that the first event is *this weekend*! We've got a lot of great players signed up already, and I'd love to see even more
|
Special announcement guys - during the *finals* of the tournament tomorrow, we will be giving away a Legacy of the Void Collector's Edition (still in plastic wrap and everything) to someone in the stream chat!
|
Missed the sign up for this week but I hope you continue to do this and look forward to playing in the future tournaments
|
Congrats to mYi Intense for winning week 1! I've updated the link on the OP for week 2 registration, but its also here: http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/wzZ0ypvbMJ
Will get the thread updated with the other week 2 relevant details later, but remember week 2 is open to NA Citizens *AND* Permanent Residents!
|
Week 2 begins in just a few hours - make sure to register or hop in and watch! This week we will be giving away *another* LotV CE to someone in the chat during the finals!
|
|
|
|
Minor update for this week: Draven is unavailable to cast, and so JaKaTaK has graciously agreed to fill in!
|
|
Big news here guys: Since this weekend is a Global event, I've decided to make it even more exciting. Starting this weekend, ALL of the Global events will have double the prize pool! That means $200 instead of $100 - $150 for first, and $50 for second!
Make sure to register and play! I've been told this will also net the global events even MORE OSC points, so I'll update again once I have those numbers.
|
OSC Numbers for global events are in! 1st 240 OSC points 2nd 125 OSC points 3rd + 4th 60 OSC points each 5-8th 20 OSC points each 9-16th 10 OSC points each 17-32nd 5 OSC points each

On February 08 2016 10:07 Acer.Scarlett` wrote: do i get PILI's bounty from yesterday :o
Unfortunately not, as you guys have played several times in the past, with fairly even results by series (3-2 in your favour prior to yesterday)
You can claim a bounty if you've never beaten that opponent before, or exceptions can be made if you've only beaten them once/a small percentage of the time.
Active bounties and bounties claimed can be seen here

Week 4 with our higher prizepool and global players will be starting in a little under 4 hours! There's still time to register
|
|
|
Week 6 begins in just a few hours. Still time to register!
|
|
Tomorrow's Filthy NA Cup Weekly (#7) is being cancelled due to IEM and lack of players. So the #7 event will be held next weekend instead.
|
|
#7 is *tomorrow* guys, sign up now! :D

Still time to sign up for today's *global* and double prize pool event!

Registration link for week 10 is up http://challonge.com/4jmdw40x
We had a repeat winner this week, and so Week 10 will be the last opportunity for someone to qualify for the $1k tournament of champions on April 9th.
|
I looked but I didn't see it anywhere, is there any league requirement?
|
Sorry for the late response jcairne, I totally missed your post. No, there is no league requirement! (that said, most of the folks who register are masters or GM)
|
Just looking ahead, it might not hurt to mention that in the OP. This is pretty hype though, I'm a bit annoyed that I haven't caught any of this.
|
Today we are hopefully going to crown our 8th champion, and finish the lineup for the Tournament of Champions next week
|
Hey guys, there will not be a weekly next week, since we will be instead running the Tournament of Champions.
However I should also note that after the Tournament of Champions we will be taking a bit of a hiatus from events for about a month while I spend some time with my wife. If someone wants to volunteer to run the events without me, we can probably set that up (and feel free to let me know).
Otherwise....
The Filthy NA Cup Weekly will return on May 14th!
The other note is, the time for the event is going to be changing from Noon Pacific to 1PM Pacific, to reduce conflict with Chairs4Gaming. I am not sure if this new time will be sustainable for the long-term, but we are going to try it out and see how it goes.
|
Hey everybody.
When I feel up to it, I will make a bigger post explaining everything that is happening/has happened behind the scenes (not that there's any scandal or anything particularly interesting, but simply for transparency). That said, for now, the Filthy NA Cup Weekly will not be returning.
The short version is: running this event right now was negatively impacting my life. I am going to reach out to other folks and see about possibly having someone else run it and simply funding it myself.
Huge thanks to everyone who has participated. I may still try to make the tournament of champions happen, since I'd really love to still see that come to pass.
|
Any chance of this returning at some point? The scene needs more small weekly tournaments like this :/
|
|

Some of us would love to play this.

Some of us would love to play this. I think it would be a good thing to let Latin Americans player play it increases the value of the tournament, gives latin players more tournaments to play, and allows for better competition. Just my thoughts always supported Latin players.
|
For right now, the event is limited to folks from the North American Continent. Full list of eligible countries here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America#Countries.2C_territories.2C_and_dependencies
That said, we are exploring the possibility of opening it up more in the future (and, of course, there are always the global events every 4 weeks).
So basically, for tomorrow's event - participation is limited to folks from the countries on that wikipedia link. I dont want to change the rules last minute. However, I will investigate the possibility of opening it up for next week.

Big Eligibility Change
Hey everyone - based on feedback, interest, and the fact that the NA scene is in a better place than it was last year I've decided to make a big change to the Filthy NA Cup. The non-global weeks are now open to all Citizens and Permanent Residents of the Americas - not just North America.
The global weeks will remain unchanged. This change takes effect immediately, and so all Americas players can register for the event this coming Friday.

Filthy Cup Changes for 2018
Hey everybody! Filthy Cup will be going through some changes in 2018 (and a little bit, sooner, also).
First up: Filthy Cup 54, 55, 56, and 57 will not award OSC points. These will be during the OSC Off-Season. That said, they will still have their normal prize pools. Filthy Cup #53 and then 58 will award OSC points.
Next, Casters: In 2018, the Filthy Cup will be moving from Gauntlet as the casters and over to the one and only feardragon! His first cast will be on Jan 3rd, with Filthy Cup #56, run on his channel.
After that, day/time change: You may have noticed that I just said Jan 3rd above, which is a Wednesday and not a Friday. That's right! Starting in 2018, the Filthy Cup is moving to Wednesdays at 5:30pm Pacific.
I'll update the OP with all the relevant details after the final Filthy Cup of 2017.
|
Gonna place this right below since it's relevant for anybody who is used to the Friday slot.
The Gauntlet channel will continue on Fridays with Bob and I casting something..
|
Our sincerest thanks to Filthy for the opportunity to produce the event this year, it's been a pleasure to be part of a series dedicated to the NA scene. Wishing you guys all the best next year and beyond!
|
Italy3206 Posts
...happy for feardragon that works a lot for the sc2 community but, at the same time, quite sad for the Gauntlet team who worked pretty hard for keeping the production level really high all the times... glhf guys!!
|
To be clear, this is a parting on good terms. Our previous agreement ended, and Gauntlet chose not to renew. I continue to love those wacky guys :D
|
Excited to be bringing coverage of this in 2018. I'll do my best to live up to Gauntlet's high expectations on the production side in my own ways. =]
|
hey all, sorry about the lack of updates for this week. We are trying to figure out some logistical difficulties, since we are also running the "I Got DQ'd" event at a possibly conflicting time. Stay tuned for more!

Hey all - feardragon has mentioned it already on stream (and will again later in the stream), but after tonight the Filthy Cup is going on a hiatus for at least 1 month.
I anticipate that I will make an announcement in approximately 2 weeks about if/when the tournament will be returning.
|
Oh damn thats sad to hear. I was really enjoying it. For some reason really crazy games happen all the time in this tourament.

sad to hear I was not following it since the beginning of 2018 due to the day/time change (it was like at 2.00 am during the week so not watchable for me) but it's kinda of a pity if it will be cut off...
|
I'm glad you all have enjoyed it. It is hard to believe this is the third (calendar) year I've run this event.
If I'm super honest, the passion just isnt really there for me right now... and without the passion it is hard to justify the work and money I put in.
|
Full update here:
Short version: The Weekly Cup is not returning, however there will be a $1,000 prize pool GLOBAL "farewell" event. Details TBD/TBA.
