Definitely a tough group for old Fanta but he might get a shot at the final round. I see Parting making it through relatively easy with Rogue a close second spot. Lets do this terrorist Terran. Btw what is considered to be his best match up overall? I think his weakest is tvz but I might be wrong

I'm willing to sacrifice my soul for Fantasy to win Code S this season. I'll sacrifice something slightly less valuable for him to get out of the group.

Dark went to the finals of KeSPA cup and took herO to all 7 games... he almost won.....
PartinG is the clear favourite imo, could 4-0 pretty easily.
I hope and believe Gumiho will advance in second place, but it will be tough since playing Parting first lowers his chances. Overall I feel anyone could take the second spot. Fun group!

he has moments of brilliance followed by a return to mediocrity. he's on the precipice.

He's a top 16 GM player on the Korean last for atleast 6 months. And he's quite good in PL too.

I dunno, how long were you gone?
He got top 8 last Code S and SSL, and he 3-killed CJ Entus in Proleague a few weeks ago.

Hm he's been top 5 zerg for about a year at least now imo.

Rogue made it to ro8/gsl ro8 this year. He's also one of the best proleague players.
I think its very obvious he's one of the strongest Zerg's

they're not confirming the elephant theorem at all, since MVP (in the past), Life, Maru, Dream, Parting etc are on the top and are all coming from eSF. In the other hand Jaedong Bisu Jangbi, stork etc. are nowehre to be seen.
The thing is though, that the ones that are training in KeSPA teams today and play proleague seem to improve faster....

If wol is any indication, Legacy released will be almost there when you'll get a buff. An infestor buff would be cool, like IT getting upgrades again or something quite strong like that

I gave up after the 2015 s1 maps. The only rational choice is that they're still clueless about a ton of stuff. And obsessed with statistics

He was actually saying that the greats of Brood War would eat every sc2 pro up like they were goldfish and the greats were sharks.
better to play on inferno pool/secret spring in wcs final yo
I don't know why you have brought this up, it is better to play on the newest maps than on the 2 years old crap.
terrible maps that are unplayable in some match ups except for some gimmicky 1base all in are worst than daybreak/overgrowth/kss staying forever. WCS map pool is the perfect exemple for an imbalanced joke.

That's what he said at one point in the article, around about the same time he said that the competition was a farce in sc2 (which it was at the time of the article) and that kespa was the ultimate training machine.
It was a shit article and wrong about almost everyhing apart from the competition being a joke at the time and that kespa would step things up
I've really enjoyed the casting for the RO16 so far. Tastosis steps up when there are interesting players/games. Wasn't too big on some of the games casted during the RO32.

He gets quite a lot of respect, as he is considered to be among the best, probably top 5 Zergs right now.
His problem is inconsistency, but I can't really name one Zerg player today that is consistent.
I don't understand this. He's like 11-4 in proleague and has just finished ro8/ro8 in individual leagues.
Before that in 2014 he was a solid individual league player, albeit still a relative newcomer to elite level play.
so he has better results than dark who has been hyped to the moon and back.
I've been saying this for a long time but everybody hates me so I usually just shut up
tbh dark finally made a case for himself with kespa cup.
He made a case for himself when he crushed Maru at IEM Katowice after the casters/experts/whatever kept telling everyone that Maru is the best TvZ player in the world,

It's true rogue is a very emotional player who will sometimes lose to lesser players, but I wouldn't call him inconsistent. Results are the most reasonable ways of looking at consistency, and rogue certainly has solid results

so he has better results than dark who has been hyped to the moon and back.
I've been saying this for a long time but everybody hates me so I usually just shut up
tbh dark finally made a case for himself with kespa cup.
He made a case for himself when he crushed Maru at IEM Katowice after the casters/experts/whatever kept telling everyone that Maru is the best TvZ player in the world,
Yeah, pretty much. It is a bit hard to compare Dark to Rogue though. Dark is a player that has his style and usually does the same thing but has amazing mechanics. I wouldn't say that Rogue is on the same level mechanic-wise but is definitely more trickier player.

i wonder if that inconsistency has just become a zerg thing. you sound like you could be talking about byul at this point. even last year zergs were weak with only soO being the last hope before Life made his comeback at the end of the year. but hey lets nerf SH because some people outside of korea like to play 3 hour games. i should stop before it becomes more balance whining for a race i don't even play.

It's true Dark has better mechanics than Rogue, but that isn't saying too much considering Dark's macro mechanics are pretty unreal. I say with only a subtle bias that Rogue's mechanics are easily one of the best among zerg players

He doesn't play a mutaless TvZ tho.
i was just trying to rile people up. dark is pretty transcendent in ZvT. plus it's fun to bash SKT players
but really Dark had some results (Kespa cup, IEM, ..) rogue only has a 3rd place at MSI beat it or something. The hype he gets matches the result he had, he's not overhyped, but not underhyped either.
I truly, truly don't understand sometimes pro players.......sometimes they are total noobs, they seem to lack the basics of sc2...and sometimes they are brilliant, with great mechanics and strategies.. weird world....weird game....weird everything else....
wasn't that pre SH patch when he was even losing to people like destiny?
It's form which takes into account his most recent games primarily (which are largely after the patch). It's also true that PartinG has been knocked out of the gsl a ton in the past by zerg players.
I'm not implying his PvZ is bad, only that Rogue has the best shot of knocking him out. Which I still find highly unlikely
wasn't that pre SH patch when he was even losing to people like destiny?
It's still by far his worst MU. E.g. he had minor trouble beating HyuN at Dreamhack while crushing Rain and GuMiho and he basically traded series with Hydra post SH-removal.
I'm not sure of specific stats atm, but I would actually like to see the current Korean PvZ winrate.
Even though theoretically Protoss should be fairly imbalanced, it feels that the maps are quite good for most zergs (although that has changed a bit of the very recent with the changed map pools/conflicting ones between proleague/individual leages)
Furthermore we're seeing a huge explosion in Zerg players taking gold bases in the MU, which has really made the protoss players lives quite a bit tougher.
A week or so ago, Elky got coached by Sjow in Hearthstone. Was quite entertaining to watch. Elky was ~rank 5 iirc (maybe diamond-master league in SC2 terms).

Meh I used to love MMA but I hate how they started marketing the sport and the demographic they have begun targeting. Still tune in for some fighters though.

Lichter disappeared from the face of the earth.
Stuchiu is probably writing an article about Rogue beating Fantasy.

To be honest I'm shocked gumiho went for the bunker rush vs a protoss lol, the addition of the msc makes that seem like the zerg equivalent of a 6 pool vs terran.

I'm just glancing from time to time, and was reffering to both games. What amaze me the more is his capacity too pulling probes just when it's needed and with the right number needed.

Eh, against the slightly greedier msc expand that parting likes to do its not bad (considering parting doesn't scout very much in the matchup).
Most protoss players will likely tell you doing that build against an 11/11 with no scout is pretty tough to hold.
edit: PartinG killed the scv building the bunker twice I think which pretty much won him the game. He also did a really good job of pulling probes almost perfectly to delay until the msc popped.
I doubt many other players would have held. Maybe Rain or herO would have held

Yeah. It's worth noting that the opener PartinG does is the most greedy, (outside of a nexus first obviously) which makes the defense much more difficult.

Rogue did have some good surrounds, but vs blink it's just not effective. Parting just sections off one part of the surround with forcefields and time warp and blinks towards and engages the other part.

He was perma 200 for the whole time until protoss gathered too much momentum. At that point, any trade, even really bad is actually good for zerg

he was up 70 supply and had burrow. he definitely had a chance. but PartinG played it really smart by making Rogue think he was going for the 3rd.

He got the 4th base so fast by not teching up, so his army was just too weak.
I thought PartinG made a mistake when he sacrificed the sentry/immo portion of his game 1 army, but the Stalkers were so resilient it was an impressive decision.

Being 200 in army, and being 200 while having like 20-30 in eggs is different story.

I am not sure why he even baited those Force Fields out when he had burrow moving Roaches. He just kept losing them and at the point he went in with burrow to snipe Sentries and Immortals he has lost quite a few of them.
He was perma 200 for the whole time until protoss gathered too much momentum. At that point, any trade, even really bad is actually good for zerg
Being 200 in army, and being 200 while having like 20-30 in eggs is different story.
Are you really gonna argue that zerg shouldn't take nearly any trade he can in such a situation?
Were you watching the same game as me? He didn't trade, he was donating Roaches and lings for few Force Fields that didn't matter in the end at all because he had burrow movement. He had a chance to kill Parting when Parting didn't have a 30 Stalkers, he didn't take that chance and was just "baiting" Force Fields while losing Roaches and Lings. In the end Parting snowballed out of control, that's it.

their casting has really stepped up since beginning of RO16. maybe it's because of the quality of players and games they are casting. or maybe they took some of the criticism constructively rather than getting defensive over it. firing on all cylinders today

But if he doesn't back off with everything, he will just get part of his army sectioned out and the rest killed off nearly for free. 15 roaches vs 20 blink stalkers wont give you any good trade, it will be a slaughter that favors the protoss.
I think Rogue did a good job baiting the forcefields.

If your point is that he should've stayed with the trapped roach and try to kill something rather than burrow and get out, I might actually fully agree on that. But you gotta try something.
Also yeah those kind of push you gotta take fights asap but he did the best job at it he could I thought

It gives me the same feeling as mid-late game TvP. Small mistakes from the protoss doesn't mean a lot but small mistakes from the non-protoss can lose you the game.
I think ZvP is a very unforgiving matchup atm.

My whole point is that he didn't need to bait Force Fields when he could've just attacked with 200 supply Roach burrow army. He would've killed every Sentry and Immortal, just like he did in that engagement, but with far less losses because Parting didn't have that big Stalker army then. What he did was baiting Force Fields while getting shredded by Immortals and Stalkers and eventually Parting's army got to big because Rogue wasn't doing anything but baiting Force Fields.

herO and maru should be able to take him down
Since PartinG's PvT is like >90% win rate, I think Maru doesn't have a chance. And now that life is out, PartinG really has a chance to win. But I'm favoring herO and maybe Maru (if PartinG gets eliminated by someone else)

Well I disagree, I think he would've gotten crushed in an engagement with that many forcefields. The reason he could kill sentries/immortals is because Parting was out of forcefields. If he's not he can just start to back off as soon as Rogue starts to burrow and keep putting up forcefield walls.

He wasn't just a-moving, he was constantly running back and forth baiting forcefields, trying to get surrounds and utilizing burrow.
Speaking of game 1 now, Rogue just can't transition away from massing roaches because then Parting will notice that Rogue doesn't have enough army and just kill him.
Sometimes these ff blink wins appear kind of "broken" or w/e but that first game.. I don't see how you dont appreciate the amazing display of skill from Parting. I have heard people talk about bw having mechanics that enable you to outplay an opponent even from a bad position or with fewer units (which SC2 sometimes lack?) and imo it's great to see a player spending so much time perfecting his control and decision making with a specific unit comp. Very happy to have Parting exploiting protoss to the fullest

I've seen Z attempt everything against that, infestors, fast ultras, spire, ling roach pressure, hydra ling, 2 base burrow. Everything. I fail to see something that works consistently.

Are you and the other guy who spams ellipsis everywhere the same zergtears trollbait? Because it definitely starts to look like it
It isnt that this style is unbeatable. Rouge lost because he lost his overseer. If he had that he could have a moved and won easy in that first attack.
Dont whine about forcefields, whine about zerg's lack of micro potential. In current meta first non a-move thing zerg has is pretty much hive tech, while almost every unit protoss has has some kind of active or spell-esque ability. Players have gotten so much better after WoL that nowadays players can just thrive out of talent and being better in the game.
LotV units address this for all races, so direction they are taking seems good. Best players should win.

Taking game ending damage by DTs because not bothering to scout? Making a horrible attack, part of the army shooting Nexus, shredded by forcefields and storms?

Agreed, PartinG played amazing and I loved watching him do what he did, because I'm sure not many Protoss players could pull it off as well as he did. I just wish that the Zerg could do more to actively combat the Protoss. I know it's pretty balanced around the fact that it's really hard to pull off what PartinG did so this is not intended as a comment on balance, but watching helplessly while your much bigger army slowly dies is the worst feeling there is.

Seriously though, is PartinG better than herO right now (hard to distinguish IMO)? PartinG lost to Soulkey on cheese, is it impossible that something like that happens in this GSL?

Well in some way burrow + FFbait + Army positionning is some kind of micro but I believe Rogue's army placement in these two games was below PartinG's

There is only one relevant zerg. Could that be a sign of something? Maybe? Eh? When Maru and Taeja were only relevant terrans there were problems. Maybe zerg´s just need to adapt.

it's because it's not about units, it's about macro, micro and execution. Rogue had everything in game 2, simply think about what happends if he pops his roaches out under the sentries instead of splitting them in every bases. But he said "oh yeah I'm gonna outmultitask him"
But in the end, not only parting is perfectly fine defending his 3 bases, but he manages to deny the 4th with the voidray and put a darkshrine up.
Rather than balance or game design, the only thing that series shows is taht (at the moment) Parting >> Rogue.

Maybe there is a reason why zerg doesn't individually burrow roaches similar to protoss blink, but that would be micro I meant. Pre-fight army positioning and "great flanks" just doesn't seem like a mentionable micro when we talk about most prestigous tournament there is in Sc2.

it's not, parting played really well and rogue made a few mistakes that proved fatal.
It gives me the same feeling as mid-late game TvP. Small mistakes from the protoss doesn't mean a lot but small mistakes from the non-protoss can lose you the game.
I think ZvP is a very unforgiving matchup atm.
Rogue can still make it out, but Gumiho will be a tough opponent!
Zergs really should more effort and not just build roaches and a-move. Tbh, their game plan is really lacking.
I don't know if you believe what you are writing but it comes across as you trying to "bait" anger out of zerg players. I think the thread as a whole would prefer if you didn't do that. OK, sorry, I just feel that Parting does not get the recognition that he deservers.
Parting has more hype behind him than 90% of all pros
I'm happy if either Fantasy or Rogue get out behind PartinG. I also understand the Protoss-based frustration, but I'm pretty unsurprised PartinG beat Rogue (anybody really). He is so scarily good right now.

I feel the same... I know PartinG is good, but that style has just no answer.
It has, but rogue has got no result for a reason, he can beat the likes of Fantasy, but when it comes to competing with players like parting, he just doesn't have what it takes (yet)
I've seen Z attempt everything against that, infestors, fast ultras, spire, ling roach pressure, hydra ling, 2 base burrow. Everything. I fail to see something that works consistently.
Watch game 4, 7 of life vs parting in GSL Season 1 finals.

Because 9-pool vs nexus first is something you can produce consistently.

game 7 was early pool vs Nexus first. I'm not saying nothing works, I'm saying nothing works consistently. Most styles have counterplay, this style has barely any, the Z kind of has to go roach hydra to hold and just can't transition.
Zero denying that PartinG is absurdly good by the way.
On May 29 2015 20:50 c0ldfusion wrote: I don't get the balance whine in this thread.
Rogue is just not as good as PartinG. As far as I'm concerned Life is the only relevant zerg and even he is trending downward.

Perfectly fine with that analysis.
But I really don't know if Rogue witnessed that. Sentries were ON the choke, he was off with his roaches... I really don't think he witnessed it.

Dream will need to hone his TvP to extreme heights if this is to happen .
He's pretty good at TvP already, like his series vs Stats at KeSPA Cup wasn't even close.
Yeh..I guess it's because he's able to replicate Maru's style quite closely. Will be interesting to see him match up against herO (who probably as better TvP than Stats).

I don't know man, this list tells me he basically only ever (save for one game vs Ryung) drops games to absolute cream-of-the-crop Terrans, and usually beats those. It would have been nice for him to solidify this in Proleague (fuck you SKT), but it's hard to argue that anyone is ahead of him in PvT.

My guess here.
He but you'll never catch workers with hellbats.
Yep but does it matter ?
I mean, damage was done before. He was being attacked, so you can't really allow yourself to micro your hellion. Then, you just split your hellbats to the mineral line, and the other just can't mine. You don't gt kills, but he just CAN'T mine AT ALL. Which means no renforcements for the push.
Then you deflect the attack all-in and that's GG.
Can't say for the other time but I definitely understand this one.

I don't care that much about the numbers -- they're basically icing on the cake (7-2 vs Maru and 5-1 vs Gumiho is pretty sick though) -- but I find it difficult to pinpoint any weaknesses in Parting's PvT at all. Like, I watch herO and I can tell exactly what an opponent, ideally, should do to beat him. I don't really feel the same about Parting, he's much more difficult to pin down and thus much more difficult to reliably beat. His record supports that.

A lesser skilled player can play better by employing better strategies. Unless we have 5 different kind of marus we cannot quantify skill. Rating is just an estimate.

You probably should since, you know, he only loses once per ten games
Look at his opponents though
GumBa plz, PartinG used to be on SKT, stop trying to bully him.
Wait, I think he prob def is top 3 PvT but it's just the numbers are a bit inflated with "easy" opponents and people just quote the number and dont give a single thought to it
Wha? herO has wins against people like YoDa, BrAvO and Cure and got completely rekt by Bbyong at IEM Katowice. How is that infinitely more impressive than PartinG only losing 1 PvT series all year? GumBa stop the bullying.
Yoda bravo cure all play gsl and pl and I would rate em higher than most of the people parting has faced
For the sake of this argument, we'll compare records (I haven't watched all of herO's PvTs today). You're definitely right in that numbers don't say everything, but still:
Parting is 87% (34-5) in offline games vs Korean Terrans, notable opponents including Gumiho (5-1), Fantasy (4-0), MMA (4-1), Maru (7-2). Padding his record: 10-1 vs Ryung.
herO is 68% (26-12) in offline games vs Korean Terrans, notable opponents including Maru (6-7), Bbyong (1-3), Cure (5-1), Flash (if you want to count him as significant right now, 3-0). Padding his record: Taeja (2-0), Sorry (1-0), Center (1-0), Heart (2-0).
I'm not really sure what I'm really arguing at this point other than that I think Parting is better than herO at PvT

I would actually prefer if people just ignored the numbers entirely because they mean very little compared to the content of the games themselves, but we can hardly expect people to actually watch the games they're discussing :o

numbers are fine once they get relevant. Like Parting records vT. Main problem is that almost nobody knows how to use stats properly.

That would sadly be a perfect world but what I'm just saying is quoting 90% without looking at how or why then claiming goat is not a good way of doing things.

Long time since I heard something like that from him!
Tasteless has been casting gom classic since day 1.
Difference between casting that long, and casting it well.
Thats what I m referring to. I know he casted like forever because I m old and grumpy and actually watched BW-VODS and stuff ;-) I love this guy!
But the thing is, the last two years he was really not that overwhelmingly good... funny ok, but funny only goes so long... so I m happy when I sometimes feel, like today, that he actually still knows shit :-D
Who made the decision to make battle cruisers do that air barrage thing? They do so little damage per shot when they use to just do massive amounts per shot which was pretty sweet. Now ultra armor just eats all the damage off.

Heh, Fantasy following the same scenario against Rogue from earlier today - wins game 1, loses game 2, mentally breaks in game 3 and makes stupid errors.

Surprise surprise Fanta/Flash eliminated on the deciding game in the group stages. This is all I have been watching since I picked this game. This is so annoying

Fantasy always finds a way to not GG.
He is quite better at making himself some nice FanTaSy GG timings than to winning games...
Sad.
He just barely fell out of the Ro16 of GSL. Such a loser, right?
You misunderstand me...
I'm a huge fan of FanTaSy and I have a great respect for his BW accomplishments. But his TvZ on SCII is quite terrible...
Yeah he's so bad he lost 4-2 to the 3rd best zerg in the world, so embarrassing
No, it's not terrible, it's frustrating, cause he has been trying to find his own style forever, something like a 33%mech 66%bio, and never managed to make it work, and you're torn between the feeling that he'd be unstoppable if he finally managed to create this style and the sadness of thinking that if he just played fucking standard he'd have much better results....
I stopped watching the broadcast after the parting v. rogue 1st game. Protoss is completely broken in current state. Geez. Enjoy watching the rest of GSL.

Salt.
You can probably count with one hand the number of Protoss players that can come back from that situation against Rogue. What a horrid state of balance right?
And thanks. I will have great fun watching this season's GSL. If all the coming games are gonna be as good as today's then we're in for a treat.
