"prepare for a matchup" doesn't really work in weekend tournaments though.. Can't come up with too many different builds and refining them in these type of tournaments.
Well they won't have a lot of time to prepare, but its easier to go into your group knowing you will only have one race to play against.

Based on the requirements of point-awarding tournaments laid out when this year's WCS was announced, I'm not buying it until the blank/TBD turn into actual numbers.
the players kinda qualified for this red bull washington dc tournament, there was a global qualifier and all the battlegrounds were like qualifiers for this final big event, so it makes sense i think

You can also spin it that WCS AM, WCS EU, and GSL were qualifiers for GSL Global. MMA still didn't get points from it.

None of the sources from anywhere say that red bull washington awards any WCS points, they only announced a prize pool, nothing about WCS points, anywhere at all.
My understanding was that Red Bull Washington happened after Blizzcon, so the points wouldn't matter for the 2014 cycle.

You can also spin it that WCS AM, WCS EU, and GSL were qualifiers for GSL Global. MMA still didn't get points from it.
