The 1 time (so far) I did an LR thread, it was an up and down group that went to 2 or 3 tie breakers lol. It ended at like 9 am for me.

IIRC Gom doesn't make the groups right away. The players have to be divided up into the 4 tiers (top 8 previous season, 3 tiers based off GSL points or whatever) and then Zest and soO get to choose their first opponent since they were the finalists unless something has changed. Then each group will put a Tier 1 vs Tier 4 and a Tier 2 vs Tier 3 to start

Oh, very interesting. I knew about finalists' choice, but I had no idea group stages are that non-random. Makes a lot of sense in retrospect, especially with the phasing out of group selection in RO16 because they hate groups of death.

This guy was known as a mechanical monster in BW, yet he somehow messes up macroing in a far less mechanically demanding game, over and over. I'm still struggling to make sense of it.

well, Fantasy can't use vikings to kill the colossai with so many phoenixes and as long as Myungsik keeps some templar with energy behind his army Fantasy can't stim in to get to the colossai and tempests either.
I don't think there's much left for Fantasy to do here, he needs some miracle engagements where he EMPs every single last templar now

I've seen Bomber handle this comp with a LOT of Widow Mines mixed in with the Ghost/Viking core when streaming.
Don't know how viable that is especially since I don't know who Bomber was playing against, but it seems like something worth trying.

Dunno, if you have a ton of ghosts and vikings the protoss cant force the engagement in the same way since the tempest shots dont do damage. With enough PDDs it can be enough to turn the tide to the terran player, assuming that the EMPs hit. Trying to kill the observers help too with a lot of ghosts. Of course this is just theorycrafting though and next to impossible to execute in a real game

Fanta really missed his timing early-game.
His EMPs were just not good enough to beat that composition head-on.

That was fun, to be honest. A Tempest into Late Game build isn't something you see often. And wonderful zoning with the Tempests too.

If Fanta had that raven a bit earlier, I think he could have had a shot in those big engagements. Wp Myungsik nonetheless!

Fantasy couldn't use his (at times) far superior economy because he didn't have enough production. I wouldn't be surprised if he had 3-4 units queued in his barracks, so it might have been even more minerals which went unused.

Well that already makes less damage on your vikings. Besides I feel like the main point with the PDD is just to make it so the tempests cant force engagements from far away, he cant just fly the phoenixes intomyour army to kill the pdds at that point.

I don't know, i didn't like this game at all, lots of time wasted on useless maneuvers, deathballs walking forth and back and the real climactic deciding engagement just never occurred: fanta simply got stomped 3-4 times, every time he tried to fight.

PDD isn't the answer, at least not for a period of time longer than 2 volleys (which could be long enough)
Phoenix do 2 rounds each, so every phoenix requires the PDD to use energy twice per phoenix attack. Times 20 phoenix and that fast attack even 15 PDD's would be drained ultra quick. That could buy enough time for Vikings to win the air fight though. Maybe. Hard to say because I don't know how many shots a PDD can absorb.

If he had several Ravens, he could have tried to shield them and then go for pointer seekers on the very immobile tempests as well. There are ways of beating a protoss air deathball, even though Fantasy didn't manage to do it...

well, since the Vikings would be shooting at the phoenixes all the time and EMPs would take all their shields, it would still just be energy traded against units.
I think you just need a lot of Ravens for that to be worthwhile, kind of like you need a lot of SHs.

Fantasy did a-move his ghosts into Myungsiks army and basically throw away his huge lead at one point though... you can't judge the composition entirely based on that game, because Fantasy made some fatal blunders.

Nothing beats that really, terran or zerg. I guess enough corruptors and infestors could, with lots of vipers, sitting behind 50+ spores, but I can't see anything else working.

The thing is I don't think the tempests are that big of a problem in the actual fight, its just that they start slowly picking up your army from afar and force you to run away/engage when you don't want to. This is where PDD shines and phoenixes wont engaging at that point anyway so it wont matter that they use them fast. Then when you get an engagement in the spot you want, you need to EMP basically everything, fire up all the rest of the energy your ravens might have, kill observers, cloak your ghosts and hope you win/trade well enough. At least this is what I think but I don't have too much experience against this.

Fantasy sat under several psi-storms for a wincingly long time, and did that horrible mid-game attack up Myungsik's ramp.

Actually now that I think about it, I'm worried about Tempest/Collosus/Templar becoming Broodlord Infestor.
It's already THE go to unit composition in 2/3 match ups. PvT was the only place we weren't already seeing it and Myungsik just showed how powerful it can be.
The only thing holding it back is just like Broodlord/Infestor Protoss players haven't figured out all the ways to reliably macro up to it. If the meta ever allows them to we could be repeating what happened at the end of WoL.

It's just a theorycraft. But I think there is two ways to go about it: kill the 4th/5th with pure bio, no vikings. Or, build the sickest turtle composition yourself with mass raven/viking/ghost and start nuking and PDDing to gain ground.

People fought hour long games in the beta and between storms and tempests the games still went in protoss favor.

Do you have any evidence of that? I would see high templar/tempest able to beat most of the elements of sky terran, since vikings tend to clump and BC's have mana.

I think the way of beating this P comp is to megamass vikings, then attack from multiple angles (here Fanta attacked clumped and got destroyed by storm). Have just a small ground force to guard from zealots (ghosts are perfect) or send drops left and right. Focus the colossus perhaps, not sure what to kill first, perhaps the flying siege things that I forgot the name of first.

I'd actually argue that his Macro is as good as it was in BW. It's just it's everyone else realized it was a lot easier in SC2. Fantasy hasn't gotten the memo.
The scary part is if he figured out how to drop 2-4 more barracks.

Seriously TvZ is still perfectly balanced, i dont see why u would change the game again after 1 month just because a few Terrans played pretty bad in this Seasons qualifierer. The Pro Players themselves said that they would rather not see additional balance patches so frequently.

Basically this mappool is nothing but the worst mappool ever for terran (except maybe the one with the island base).
Blizzard should react imo by reverting mine nerf on ZvT. The matchup is really completely in favor of zerg in macro game nowadays. bio is too weak to ling bling mutas and mech is largely figured out and was just a gimmick Fotm strategy for a couple of month.
At least with mines we could enjoy high level ZvT with constant action with relatively close games.
Remember that ZvT was already figured out and mastered by zerg a month before the mine patch. They basically fixed something already fix , that was pretty retarded.

You whine about balance after Fantasy macroed so badly. Did you watch the games? Balance had nothing to do with it. Leenock is much better than Fantasy and deserved to advance.

It's problem of Flash, TY, Fantasy and crew that they can't perform in Code A as well as in Proleague.
And if Toss is overpowered, i have reasonable question why didn't 17 Protosses advance from Code A.

I'm not saying you're wrong, Fantasy hasn't looked like he's ready for Code S at any point since I've been watching him in Starcraft 2, but; Terran is definitely struggling right now. Even the best Terrans are putting up inconsistent results despite looking like overall superior players most of the time.
If Terran results continue to stay at this record low world wide then I vote that Blizzard should do something. We already know the map pool sucks for Terran I think even Protoss and Zerg players will admit that so perhaps that should change, if not that reverting the mine nerf doesn't sound like a terrible idea especially since the match up was balanced at the pro level before that nerf.
