Lets go ForGG,its time to kick some asses ! (especially the blond haired one ) After this IEM qualification he seems on top of his games,i believe he will end up first of the group.
Second will probably be nani but my hopes are on ToD,GOTOD !
Feels strange a terran like forgg would have a hard time against zerg, especially a EU zerg. But I havent seen his TvZ vfor a long time so I suppose I will have to take the casters word for it.
I think that forGG/Nani makes it out, but wouldn't be surprised if either ToD or Targa went on to Ro16. I want ToD to cast the finals though, that is as far as I could let him go.

Most recently, he beat Nerchio in the IEM NY qualifier. He didn't go for the standard 3 base 4M parade push, but instead went for very aggressive 2 base builds. Crushed Nerchio, but didn't give us enough to judge his TvZ realy.
On September 04 2013 01:22 shid0x wrote: can zerg even win ZvP anymore ? I'm a terran player so my knowledge on this race is low but...jesus.
instant sky toss is still a bit rarely used by most tosses, so the experience of Zergies is quiet low against it. I mean they usually go hydra and stay on them against a full teched toss. Don't think it will stay this dominant for long, but Zergs will need a bit of time to adapt. But I do think it will stay viable as it prevents the Swarmhost play a bit.

Don't go mass ling against +1 zealot/archon, easy as that.
This build also stop roach/hydra from what i saw against nerchio and others.
It doesn't .. TargA just played awful.. Doing nothing with his lings, he had nowhere near enough units to deny Naniwa's third or deffend his. I really fail to see his gameplan there ..

3 stargate void ray builds are kinda weak against A. good ZvPer (ala JD at WCS season 2 finals) B. mutas into corruptors liike Soulkey did against sOs. C. Against 'Go fucking kill him' by zerg. IMO.
outsch poor Targa. But expanding aggressively against this Protoss build instead of sitting a bit longer on 3 base and grab the save backdoor one is a tad bit to greedy.
Also go go Targa ! (to bad mutas don't work on this map though)
Imagine if Targa, instead of going for those 20+ extra lings after denying that third the first time, goes for 10 drones and roach warren or hydra den. He holds the attack on his third, and just wins from there.
With college football starting back up, I just thought of an interesting idea for WCS. What if we had a "top 25" or even top 50 ranking for players based on their WCS points and had that number next to their name for their matches? You could update their rank once every week or after a major event ends or something. Imagine instead of just Bomber vs Naniwa we could have #3 Bomber vs #12 Naniwa, making the matches appear even bigger than they are. And then when an unranked player takes a series off a top player, it would make for good and interesting headlines/ possibly generate more interest from casual viewers

Well we have the ranking, they showed the player's ranks earlier, it's Naniwa#12 vs Targa#131. They could put the numbers next to their name I guess.
Jeez Apollo, oversell Targa's position much? only a 40 supply gap right now and no real counter to the voids at the moment. I'm not sure Naniwa is any more than just a little bit behind.

Because Hydralisks and Infestors are going to be on the board way before Storm can ever be ready.

edit: small clue for people who are bored: there's this interesting feature in the WCS stream, you can close it and not watch the game if you're not entertained. How about you do that? I did that when Innovation all-killed this morning, had no problems of boredom! See how that goes?

Don't forget that right now infestors have two pretty useless spells: infested terrans and neural. Neither of them is very cost effective to start with, but in the late game vP the upgrade difference just totally makes it impossible to execute. I really think the infestor needs some love, but it isn't as if Targa wasn't also playing with bad compositions.s

Lol ok Queen is caster, then protoss had 4 casters there and zerg 2.
Transfuses are casts that require clicking. I did not see FFs thrown there after certain mark, mommacore is 2 clicks and can be considered half of a caster(cause only 1) and then templars. Yes, toss has ton of units with abilities, yet all i usually see is usage of abilities that do not require active mouse usage and templar usage. Also, i am just bitter at how hard Targa threw the game D:

That only applies to guardian shield... Blink alone needs more mouse usage than any zerg abilities.

did he use more than 1 :D?
He used the Mothership Core, Guardian Shield, Storms and Feedbacks...
And blinks.

But it is deathball and it is boring to watch! Only thing i will admit is that drawn-out games because of Naniwa being too careful and Targa throwing suck.

Because ForGG's walled and may have made more than one barracks? Bunker's already up and ToD felt he at least had a soft contain, so he could expand behind it safely (thanks to mothership core).
On September 04 2013 02:09 jubil wrote: So uh, can any protoss tell me why ToD didn't just 4 gate after seeing wall-in and either scouting or guessing CC from forgg
Didn't forGG have a SCV in ToD's main? A scouted 4 gate is really, really bad.
Also that reactor opening suggests factory, which means widow mines. ForGG would probably have held easy.

Guess what, you can actually defend a 4G while getting a single CC. Especially with the early gas-facto he opened with.(If you couldn't get to two bases/CCs vs 4G, the game would be kinda silly)

There is, but ghosts counter zealots on their own just fine in large numbers.
There's a difference between "doing well vs zealots" and "annihilating zealots"
There is difference: doing well against all protoss units in game except well-microed warp prism with HTs and collosi and annihilating zealots and probes.

I believe you can do both but it mostly depends on your playstyle (ie do you prefer having to deal with chargelots or archon ? )
Polt also used a similar style in wol (minus the hellbat ofc) and it was pretty good but since it has its limitation it is quite a lot micro/multitasking intensive.

Yeah, it's just another case of Hellbats/Marauders winning thanks to a huge eco advantage (graph); in a more even game it would be much worse.

It's not like any terran composition in PvT works without eco advantage, sometimes huge one.

True, but Hellbats/Marauders tends to be particularly wasteful.

If your stream lags, try to change the url to nl.twitch.tv. I did and the stuttering stopped on High.
That being said, twitch is fucking ridiculous. 100 mbit connection and I can barely watch medium quality at times. And the chat randomly stops working as well. Time to boycott twitch?

We should go to GameCreds !
I approve, they only need to make mid-stream adverts working.

I will just describe game 2 as i have seen it: Targa goes 3 hatch gas before pool, nani fails to punish it. Targa makes roaches against zealot-sentry-archon with few voids (from 1 stargate), misses his timing, Nani maxes out with around 10 void rays and goes attacking. Turns out that targa forgot to make hydras, targa proceeds to lose army , 3rd (that was hive). After that 20 minute death animation.

Yes, because of you twitch.
I have not been able to spectate in a resolution above low since the change (not really sure what "the change" was but they did get additional servers) and even that one stutters. I don't understand computer tech' stuff but I'm pretty sure that an investment like that should make things better, not worse. It just doesn't feel as appealing to tune in anymore. :/

Ohh now I get you, Naniwa is very good according to you, but when he plays vs Zerg his skills completely disappears, but he still wins, but only because Zerg race is weak.

No, Naniwa is actually really good. And his vZ build is kinda awesome. I just do not like zergs throwing the games and tad bit upset about this.

Didn't watch carefully the beginning, was it a fake expand Immortal bust? (Like 26-28 probes, no saturation at natural?)
25 probes.
If you open with a Reaper you can see the earlier robo, or an Immortal, or the lack of saturation at the natural. With CC first, either a Marine poke or a scan at the natural to see it's empty. The fact the map has backdoor rocks should raise alarms for the possibility of an Immortal bust.
terrible archon micro... jeez. he could have saved the first archon so easily. but noooo 1a with his attackgroup again. mistakes like this boggle my mind...

High medivac count + mostly marauder/hellbat + low amount of meatshield for Naniwa.

he didn't have that much to defend with and got some hts emp'd. ForGG had lots of marauders/enough hellbats to tank the colossi damage. He also had something like 7-8 medivacs as well.

It was gg since Naniwa went away from his base. He could stay longer in this game if didnt go away but with 3 vs 5base you will lose.

some defense would have been nice, but if it would have been only chargelots a hellbat would have dropped out and melted them, so Archon would have been needed to defend. Naniwa was to comfortable with his scouting against drops and thought he could defend with warp ins. Which is probably true against any other Terran except ForGG and his at the moment rather unique unit composition.

Nani got good at rock paper scissors?
Jep he absorbed Duckdeoks RPS skill, but that doesn't help again Targa. But if ToD wins everything would be open. But GSL format forces Naniwa to lose against Targa if they meet again.

No, as I said before, Nani will be crushed if goes away from his base. Exactly this happened. It ss one of many fundamental sc2 problems.
Naniwa lost game way before. ForGG was just making it closer :D
Not really, Naniwa made it closer because he stayed at his home, if he went away earlier then it was already gg. Staying at home was the only one way to "survive".

I don't think VRs need a buff but they could benefit from being a little less volatile. They either massacre everything armored or do basically nothing. They could benefit from being a little more well-rounded.

He didn't need to push, targas whole point of his army was to catch him in a open area, and tods army wasnt finished yet, storm was on the way and he has to many zealots. plus he had a forth if anything he should have just had his voidrays fly in, kill the hatch then recall out.

eh, at least tempests are different because they hate flying massive. That's some hipster niche there.
My sentence starts with "I don't think they need a buff"

but yea like the guy above me said protoss already has tons of shit to deal with armored units, void rays don't need to be as volatile as immortals are. The immortal thing actually makes sense due to their interactions with midgame.

I always liked the VRs when SCII was first released. You can kite with them and you have to get them to max charge to do damage then Blizzard went ahead and made them a rather uninteresting unit :/

edit: There is a cool trick he could have done, which is put one broodlord in range of the geyser and the second BL slightly further back on hold position in range of any stalker which tries to hit the closer BL while micro'ing the closer BL back when he does.

I am really disappointed by ToD today. It looks like him casting recently has at least some impact on his level. He has definitely played much better in the past.
If Naniwa loses here, it's very likely to be 16 koreans at Blizzcon. It would be so much more exciting with atleast one foreigner there, so I really hope Naniwa makes it through here.

Maybe they really, really hate Frost
I don't think Frost is that bad for Protoss. But then I don't play standard ZvP so I can't say my experience is relevant.

carriers don't suck. They are actually one of the best units in game. Problem is not them being bad, problem is getting to them, which is almost impossible if you are not already big time ahead. And if you are so ahead that you can go carriers, you can also end the game without them.

They are really over-dramatizing this whole WCS ranking. There are 4 players below Naniwa in the ratings. And besides he is already qualified for IEM New York where he can win a lot of points.

carriers don't suck. They are actually one of the best units in game. Problem is not them being bad, problem is getting to them, which is almost impossible if you are not already big time ahead. And if you are so ahead that you can go carriers, you can also end the game without them.
The carrier might be the best unit out of every unit in the game if we don't count other anti-air units

4players under you is not that many, considering how many are close to him

Can win is not a comfortable position for a player to be in

Naniwa does better in the clutch. He had to win MLG Dallas or he was going to retire and he won.

It also isn't about him winning, it's about getting a foreigner to the global finals to show that the foreign scene is still relevant.

So now Naniwa has about an 18.43% chance to make it to blizzcon, if all players were equal skill (will have my program use aligulac ratings soon) and not counting dreamhack since they don't have brackets yet.

He still will need certain people to fail, for instance:

Aha. Thanks!
There are a few far out ones that can take him out like Parting/Flash/Gumiho. But they'd need to win GSL and then do decently in season finals. And if that's the case, more likely than not they will take out others that threaten Naniwa's position.

This is sadly partially true. If you go FFE, and the Zerg goes 3 hatch before pool, and pulls drones to prevent you from cannoning up his second or third base, or just builds his 2nd and 3rd away from the cannons; the zerg almost automatically wins if he gets his third base up. (à la Jaedong vs Naniwa at the Season Finals).
The moment the game goes into mid-late game, zerg is so much ahead. Blizzard should really look into this, because even if Protoss goes for the most aggressive strategies, like the 4gate, he cannot punish 3 hatch before pool, unless the zerg fcks up.
You could proxy2gate. Also, the Stardust Zealot-heavy 2base 4 gate is really rough against 3hatch before pool.

My guess is 3500 points will be a lock for Blizzcon if not less, so NaNiwa "just" needs to do good at Comic-Con and Bucharest (Top 4 atleast in both)
I am optimistic, that he should at least do well at NY; there are 3 american+1 US qualifier as well as 1 SEA/Chinese. Even with Polt taking 1 spot of NA, this leaves 4 people, who are supposed to lose to Nani and pretty much assures top 12 (+150 points) and with an open bracket and a high seat, more should definitly be possible.

So it is not possible to be close to top 16? I'm just arguing the fact that you said that he is "far out" of top 16, which he is not. I would consider players that need to have everything go their way (as in, win their WCS AND have other players drop out early) are far off from top 16.
Perhaps i was off with far out, but his chances do not look all that bright (but i hope, lol).
I like both Targa and ForGG, but they ruined the foreigner hope in the Blizzcon finals, it's either 99.9 or 100 % chance to be all koreans now (not that I don't like koreans, I will cheer for Polt, Taeja, and Jaedong, but a foreigner, especially a swede, would have been nice)

all hope on TLO ^^
Does not TLO need to perform super well though? Considering that even ForGG is far out of top 16 at the moment (and he performed far better than TLO at season 1 finals).
ForGG is not "far out" of the top 16, he's 17th.
Take into consideration that points of other players are also going up.

He will win this season, ez! ♥
I shall be glad if ForGG will be 1st player with BW starleague title to win premier championship in SC2 <3. Not so sure about realism of it though T_T.

1 player from Ro8, 1 from challenger league bracket, 1 1st place from U&D group and last one 2nd place from U&D group. Just luck.
After Naniwa's tweets about Dota and League of Legends, I can't respect him. Someone that closed minded really doesn't deserve much. I respect his play, but I love watching him crash and burn as a person.
I seriously can't see someone like Naniwa being good at a team game. So his comments were severely misguided. Oh well. Some people just don't mature as fast as others it seems.
Johan Lucchesi @NaNiwaSC2 1m i dont know how to keep improving in europe.. the other protosses cant really teach me much.. guess i need to go to korea ~~ T_T #sad
I thought he was already practicing in Korea..?
He probably needs to be on a team that actually has other good Protoss players on it.
I don't get how he can say that when he just lost to a European. lol. There's still things he could learn.
What he is suggesting is that he can't learn them from other European Protoss players because he is already better than (or at the same level as) every other European Protoss. Are you suggesting that NaNiwa isn't the best European Protoss..? If so, who do you think it is..?
To get better vs Zerg and Terran you need good Zerg and Terran, not good Protoss' players. So I don't really get his reasoning, he probably is the best non-korean Protoss in Europe right now but how would a korean protoss help him getting better in PvZ or PvT - sure he could copy some allin or timing strategy but aside from that... Given that he is affiliated with EG he probably also can get his hands on korean ladder replays of the EG players.
Great games by Targa and nice that he put on a good lecture for Naniwa.
ForGG complete God-Mode, want him to go all the way this season.
Naniwa clearly could learn from players like Hasuobs and BK who completely demolished him not so long ago in the wsc even though he had all that time in Korea.

he just thinks MOBA games do not really level with rts in terms of skill .. he works better as an individual

Man, got to love Naniwa.
Strange, I was just thinking the exact opposite
yeah well that is the general consensus in the EU pro sc2 community, today Targa is everyone's hero. Does not matter if Z, P or T everyone wanted Targa to win

NaNiwa has 2675 points right now. The only people with a realistic shot of overtaking him should have maybe 1000 points already. There are about 20 people who still have a good shot at overtaking him if he doesn't perform at IEM or Dreamhack.

I started off wanting to contradict you but looking more in depth it's gonna be pretty close. Maru and duckdeok performing badly in their premier league would be a great start.

He has a foot through the door, but it could still be close. It depends on a lot of different factors but he has a good chance of making it.

GEGTgaulzi @GEGTgaulzi 1m @NaNiwaSC2 i'll teach you how to cannon the shit out of those zergs ;D
Harstem hired a GM cannon rusher on EU to teach him how to cannon rush on every map.
Haha, that GM cannon rusher was me. It was back in WoL, he asked me if I would show him some tricks and I did. I only saw him using the tricks once and that was vs NightEnD at HSC if I remember correctly. He got very far ahead but threw his lead somehow.
I've got some cannon placements that can give pro players win vs zerg on some maps if they go either 15h or 15p. I usually get into a position where I shouldn't lose after cannoning but due to my crappy standard play I tend to throw my lead by doing silly stuff. I would really like to see those cannon placements in hands of a pro player, since he will either force enough reaction to be ahead economically, or just straight up win the game with the cannon rush.
Just had the time to watch the games. Great, great, great! Loved the last match with targas roach/hydra/massqueen/someinfestor-build to counter naniwas massskillrays-into-gg build.
Won't take much to kick naniwa out of Blizzcon now. Yay \o/

I really enjoyed watching your stream and YouTube videos in WoL. Do you still stream? If I remember correctly, it was a project called something like "Cannon rushing to master", or was it to GM?
Well anyways, that was some hardcore cannon rushing, pretty epic to watch. I recommended you guys check out the videos if you haven't.
Yeah I agree, it would be a pretty good skill for a progamer to be able to cannon rush like you. Every tip and trick helps to get that important early lead.
and that's exactly why I veto belshir, there's like 50 different unstoppable cannon rushes on that map lol. it's extremely hard to stop as protoss unless you 9 scout.
I can't believe he went in on Stephano like that. haha. "Unskilled piece of shit." Wow. Im surprised that tweet alone hasn't sparked a 100 page thread on here yet!
