The relationship between Zerg and Terran units is the best and most exciting in SC2. SC2 developers did a great job in balancing the mid game between MMM and Muta/Ling/Baneling to the point where both races have the opportunity to be aggressive or defensive and both are rewarded by great micro and macro mechanics. There are harassment options aplenty (Mutas, hellion/ling runbys and drops), there are viable al ins and timing pushes and there are offensive and defensive options to use. The problem with ZvZ imo is Roaches are a little too strong in the mid game. Some people dislike the early ling/bane wars but I love them. Roach vs Roach battles are boring and there is really no incentive for one player to split up his roaches because the infestor is weak to the point of uselessness in zvz with the projectile and dmg vs armour nerf. This results in big balls of roaches fighting each other. ZvZ still has lots of great elements going for it though. There is a strong defenders advantage, aggression and defensive play is all equally viable and different compositions in the early and late game are always a possibility. Compare this to a Protoss matchup like PvT where you will see NO deviation. It will always be gateway plus templar or colossi in the midgame with a combination of these in the lategame. Terran will ALWAYS be the aggressor in the mid game and they will use the same units to do so. Only bio compositions are viable and there are no tech switches accept for the obvious Colossi to Templar and vice versa. The Protoss will ALWAYS initiate these and the Terran is always the one responding. These kinds of certainties every game are extremely boring. Another factor Protoss matchups struggle with is constant and multi pronged aggression. Protoss NEEDS to have their army in a ball or it makes the weaker. FFs are NEEDED in one area or the Protoss have never fight straight up. This means you are NOT rewarded as a Protoss in the midgame to split up your army to do damage like you are as a Terran with bio or a Zerg with Roaches or Mutas. This makes every Protoss fight one straight up engagement that the winner will often just use to push in and win the game there and then. Anticlimatic and always boring. The only reason people actually like TvP better then ZvZ is probably because it is "prettier". Actually most Protoss players probably only play Toss for this reason. Modern PvT templar builds damn sure encourage the Protoss to split his army up, it's actually a very enjoyable matchup when the P goes for that style. I agree that Colossus stuff is boring as hell though. Also, Protoss is way more forcefield dependent vs Z than T because of how easily lair tech units overwhelm Protoss armies; that's the reason why the WoL map pool had such easy thirds, and why Protoss players tend to allin a lot more on a map like, say, Star Station or Planet S where it's incredibly hard to hold your third | ||
