I predicted that at least 12 of the "top 16" in the Ro32 would make it to the Ro16.

hopefully on thursday we see parting squirtle rain and bomber make it through.

Actually I want a group with hyvaa soO Innovation and Flash, with hyvaa and soO advancing, and eventually meeting in the finals.

Bo1 knocking out RorO, thanks OGN

yeah, how could an ex-broodwar player POSSIBLY be prepared for a Bo1 format. Such bullshit
+ Show Spoiler +
sarcasm is hard on the internet

it's not about 'being prepared for a bo1' it's about very simple math. the stronger player has a better chance to win in a longer series. if you think that life, jangbi, leenock and roro would have been kicked out of the group in bo3 series you are wrong and stupid.

gg no re ogn.

I keep forgetting "stronger player" means "the player I decided should win" :/

if you really think that kangho would win a bo100 against life and jangbi or hyvaa against leenock and roro or even fantasy against life though that one is not that clear - then you have no idea what you are talking about. bo1 format killed these players.

i'm not saying it's impossible to have it happen it's just way less likely.

when was the last time you watched a bo100? that's not how starcraft tournaments work. do you tell football fans their team wouldn't have won if the match had gone on for 50 hours?

for fucks sake..... why can't you just accept that bo1formats are bs because it's more likely that bad players advance. it's a very simple argument. but maybe we should jsut listen to you and make bo1 format finals woohee!

What's the difference between a good player that loses and a bad player that wins?

Well Leenock getting knocked out almost makes up for Losira getting through.

I get why people hate bo1 so much, for all the random results that could possibly happen.. but being "the better player" doesn't just mean being a mechanically stronger player or that when playing a bo99 you can beat that person more often than not. It also means being able to bring something special to the table. The game that best shows this was Savage vs. Innovation. Savage got a huge advantage by bringing something special, but then Innovation beat him anyway by playing great from behind. If someone else manages to out-prepare you for a game and you aren't good enough to compensate with in-game skill, you deserve to lose. The best player shouldn't just be a series player, it should be a player who's superior in EVERY department.

Besides, the people that did go through played really well! If you'd trade Kangho for Jangbi we would've had the 4 least accomplished SC2-individual leaguers move on, which is awesome after a lot of predictable people making it through the first two days. I'm satisfied despite completely failing liquibet (:

Bo1s have more variance than Bo3s but it's not an excuse for poor play. Life's form has been pretty bad recently, and that has nothing to do with the fact it is a Bo1 - he's already lost to TLO and Sjow in Bo3s and they are of lower caliber than Fantasy and Kangho.

Top tier players like Innovation, Flash and Soulkey all made it through :s.

The only objection I have to this BO1 format is that all the group games are played in a single day. In BW OSL, players only play a single game per day. Then they rest, train and prepare, and play their next BO1 game against their next opponent a few days later. Not having the time to prepare in your 2nd or 3rd matches (map and opponent may change) make the entire group format more volatile and cut-throat.

We haven't reached the equivalent to Brood War OSL.

Brood War OSL started on Ro16. Right now OSL is playing the equivalent to Ro24, which was called ODT (Dual Tournament). ODT played the same Bo1 format as today (also same as MSL Ro32). The only difference is that there are now 8 groups instead of 6, and that two groups are played daily, rather than one group per day.

Woooooow, my liquibets were completely the opposite of the results.

Sad to see the fan favorites get knocked out, but it's good that the players that haven't hit it big in HotS are stepping it up.
