If he had four of them he would kill the Protoss easily ... the Stalker doesnt really deal that much against one of them and since there is a second Protoss base you just go kill the base where the Photon Overcharge isnt. Reapers heal themselves without a Medivac (and without energy!) and you can mass them up easily very very early.
such a good opening, hits every upgrade timing perfectly, gets a macro-advantage and upgrade-lead. And then loses his third to a DT and goes full suicide without Vikings into 4 Colossai. I don't understand.... why?

That was just brutal to watch. Marineking playing just fine, gets harassed and throws his army and third away.
Or a textbook example of someone who lost his confidence.
The loss of confidence could be the root cause of the tilt, I won't argue that possibility.
No, I didn't think you would. It's a shame really; I'm sure he knows he's taking unfavorable engagements but he proceeds with them anyway like someone who's trying to avoid the tree but is actually steering right into it..

The problem with voids for me is they're as interesting as corruptors and have less of a place in the game.

He's going to do what he did his last time in the Up & Downs. Go up 2-0 and fall to 2-2 and not advance n 3rd place.
did no one see this engagement at the third? the zerg had the army to kill every single void ray and win the game right there, he just mismicroed bigtime

Having over half your army targeting the nexus while VR's are killing your hydra's is one way. True never really micro'd his hydra's. If he had, he would have handedly won that first fight and went on to win the game.
On May 30 2013 18:48 gingerfluffmuff wrote: Best concave i have ever seen from a Z. How is it possible to lose this -__-.
True should have lowered the Void numbers and not take out the base. I make the same mistake too often as well, trading your army for a base against this composition is generally a bad idea because that Toss army can only get scarier and scarier.

People just love to complain about Void Rays instead of acknowledging mistakes on the Zerg side.

True that.Outcome of the fight - All Hydras are dead, all Sentries and Zealots are dead, the Nexus is dead, but the VR are alive, he lost maybe 1/4 of them. He kept the numbers high enough to crush the second attack with more Zealots to suck dmg and rolled True over. Also with double Stargate, transition into 12-15 Mutalisk will do nothing and did nothing
On May 30 2013 18:48 gingerfluffmuff wrote: Best concave i have ever seen from a Z. How is it possible to lose this -__-.
Hydralisks are not a good unit in the grand scheme of things. Very specific timings where they work well, this aint broodwar .
his timing was really good though it was something like 28 hydras vs 7 or 8 void rays
he would have to have all of his hydras clumped up right next to the voids in the open for it to work as simply as those numbers would indicate. He was attacking a third with some FFs/structures impeding him, giving the voids some things to micro around. He would have had to commit completely to killing them and he shit the bed trying to kill the nexus while killing the voids.
The Hydra timing was really good actually, he had like at least triple the amount of Hydras compared to Void Rays, and a strong supply lead, but his micro was really bad, First actually microed his void rays against the hydras and traded well despite losing the Nexus.

Siege Tanks are just fun units to watch and fun units to play with.
I really don't understand why Blizz keeps trying to force Terrans away from Siege Tanks. I really don't.
The reason has to be TvT, they somehow think positional siege tank play is a "problem" and originally created the warhound as a means to a-move through tanks.
A buffed tank would make TvT much more tank-oriented again.

How are they forcing terrans away from tanks ? they even removed the upgrade from them.
Aside from just speculation caused by current Widow Mine design overlapping with Tanks as well as the proposed addition of Warhounds to "break tank stalemates" there was also a quote from David Kim a few weeks ago talking about how he feels Bio is more exciting to watch than Mech play and thus should be encouraged.
These are just some examples, but it really feels that the current dev team has something against heavy tank play.

Tanks costs a lot of gas and supply and their damage against light units is pretty poor. By adding in widow mines which are much cheaper, can be reactored, and do better splash, Blizzard has moved Terran further away from tanks. Also vipers hardcounter tanks in two different ways but have no effect on mines.
The dev team has stated on multiple occasions that they don't like tank-heavy play. They even introduced warhounds as a way to make tank lines easy to break in TvT and only removed them because they broke the non-mirrors. DB even talked about adding some kind of super long range nuke to Terran so that you could just blow up siege lines.

Well, I think we've just hit a rather slow phase of the game. A few minutes ago there were DTs and Ling runbys and feedback vs Abduct, storm vs fungal and both players microing their units back and forth and trying to find a good position, bases going down etc.

I'll take it a step further and say I don't think he was even in the game after successfully hiding the base for a while, usually Terran is 20-30 supply ahead since Protoss spends so much money on tech but they were even supply and First had both templar and colossus. It was pretty hopeless.

Oh come on. I never said you were wrong or that he wasn't behind. I just said that he wasn't THAT behind. Obviously the early game damage put him behind. I'm not denying that.
But Bang was playing catch up pretty darn well. He just REALLY f*ed up the engagement when he lost all his vikings and lost his main army. If he had backed off, kept on playing passively while taking more expansions and trying to macro up, he would have had a fair shot in the game.
Again, didn't say you were wrong. It just felt like you were exaggerating a little bit about how behind he was.

No that's just the fanbases' reaction to it. There is a definite rivalry between the organizations that's totally independent of the bashing on forums and probably much better mannered and more sportsmanlike.

I think so, if Hurricane wins against First and we get a final score of 4-0 for Hurricane and then it's First vs Mkp in the last game which will decide who goes out

In reality there is no rivalry because eSF is poor as fuck though, IM doesn't count they're going to ditch eSF when the collapse comes anyway.

True, but he did have a bit of bad luck vs Tear. I have faith he can 2-0 these toss
I wish people wouldn't say things like "all the protoss players are rooting for first, i support players because i like them, not just because of their race.
Race is the reason i support a player when i have no other reason to choose between them.
in the game against Hurricane he didn't build a single Viking, probably thinking that Hurricane just build one colossus to fake him. Now First is actually building only one Colossus and then directly going for Storm and MKP builds Vikings

But yea, there's no way Protoss is getting baseline warp prism speed. The capacity for it to be abused in ways such as what we just saw will keep it as a tech requirement.
It's fine if they want to lower the cost to allow more Protoss players to use it in the late game but for the early game it'd simply be way too powerful. It wouldn't take much testing to figure that out.
Once again like so many other things in the Protoss arsenal. Forcefield prevents Protoss from having nice things.

Same way you deal with a terran drop, have some units ready and dont let it happen
Except terran drops doesnt stop you from dealing with it.
It simply kills all your probes before you have to time to deal with it. AKA Hellbats
Only stupid idiotic protosses who don't pull their probes like how us terrans pull our scvs when we see oracles in our mineral line lose all their probes to terran drops.

Yeah, exactly. It's been used against Terran what, twice, in the entire lifetime of competitive SC2? Yep, clearly an unstoppable build. It's not like it could be entirely shut down by, you know, simple defensive army positioning & split, like the other races have had to do vs Terran... forever.

They should just give it a cooldown based speed boost ability instead of a passive speed increase, seems like something that would fit in this game well.

well, it's kinda right. Hurricane can't lose two games in the first tiebreaker anymore, Marineking can't win 2 games, so marineking can't get 1st, Hurricane can't get 3rd. Everything else is still possible

It's fine if they want to lower the cost to allow more Protoss players to use it in the late game but for the early game it'd simply be way too powerful. It wouldn't take much testing to realize that.
He just lost to that build without warp prism speed... SO WHAT THE FUCK DIFFERENCE DOES THE SPEED MAKE TO THAT BUILD?????
Stop crying. God damn.
Speed would make a huge difference.
Yeah, the prism gets there 5-10 seconds earlier, and MKP's unit cycle spawns up in his FF'd main instead of having just walked down the ramp and he might even hold it without having even scouted... lol.

So if terran does fuck up like that they actually deserve to win the game by counterattacking and flying their buildings to a corner?

And terran has all their production in their main base where as zerg can't reinforce since a lot of their units will spawn in their natural. Pointless argument, the protoss build has been around forever. Scout or die, like a lot of other all-ins

Yeh right, I bet everything that we would have seen posts about FF and the "stupid" all-ins by the protoss. It is like we never read LR before.

In this situation it really doesn't matter. If you have no idea that it's coming you're not gonna stop it, whether the prism has speed or not. Taking this game as a serious argument against the speed buff is not very intelligent.

The problem with buffing the Warp Prism the way Blizzard is suggesting is that it buffs gimmicky Protoss all in play way more than it helps them in standard play the way they would like.
Blizzard wants to buff Protoss slightly and in a way that makes them more exciting to watch. I'm all for that. Buffing them in a way that promotes more 1-2 base all ins is not the right way do that.

Well, that's something that their balance testing will have to show. This game however really shouldn't matter in that argument.
That makes sense because if all three games are played and it doesn't go to another tiebreaker then the person in first will be 2-0 and the person in last would be 0-2.

It doesn't in this particular game, Mkp didn't see it coming and died, fair enough. However this buff will encourage even more gimmicky 2 base protoss builds IMO, as if we didn't need any more of those.

I'm of the opinion that if they implemented the Warp Prism buff we'd just end up seeing a lot more games like Hurricane/Marineking which might bring Protoss overall win rates up but doesn't actually solve any of the other major issues with the race and definitely doesn't make them more fun to watch.
In other words, I see it as just more Soul Train style balancing.

Edit - do you see your logic mirror'ed ?
Sure you can do that. You're not getting me correctly though. I'm not saying the build isn't a gamble, it is. But Marineking never even attempted to scout it and that should lose you the game. If you have no scouting intel you have to account for everything that's possible, including this - and Marineking didn't. He played like he knew that he was somewhat safe, assuming Hurricane wouldn't all in. Perhaps have a marine out on the map in a spot that would see something like this coming if you have no idea what's going on. I mean, MKP would've died to anything, whether it'd been a stargate cheese or an immortal bust or whatever Hurricane wanted to do. He just so happened to die to a build that's always made people mad.

I'm mostly joking, It's not shameful, but It's kind of bad to be losing to players who don't have a good training environment. I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
It's actually very shameful... First all-killed Prime earlier this month... This is only proving that the all-kill was a fluke if anything.
All killing prime isn't an accomplishment. It's like all killing hoseo, everyone does it there's no shine to it anymore call me when you all kill FXO or azubu.
First is actually the only one to all-kill Prime this season so far... As shocking as this may be, it's true.
Wut, I swore they were getting all killed as often as hoseo I guess my memory serves me wrong rofl.

They get 3-killed a lot, but never all-killed until First.
seriously that was so bad by mkp... cmon mkp............ win vs first and have the tosses battle it out .... that was really fucking bad. worse than when Bomber tunnel visions.....
That wasn't a throw by MKP at all... Hurricane baited the Vikings and Medivacs away and positioned his Colossi perfectly at the top of the ramp so MKP had to take an engagement or lose the majority of his army... ~_~
MKP was so fucking ahead, he could of just sat back and turtled with drop haras after the damage to the natural fml. Instead he didn't scout the colli, see's the colli can't engage, sits in front of natural and gets owned when Tear had a good army size. FML Should of won that fml
On May 30 2013 22:01 DrPandaPhD wrote: Hurricane forced such a good fight there
MKP would have won that easily if he didnt' fly his Medivacs & Vikings somewhere else than his Bio though...
I bet he just didn't think that Hurricane would chase.
He really should have stimmed his units on the retreat or position himself for a better fight.
Yeah I think so too. Still really bad play, he should have realized better in what situation he is in, he already lost a good chunk of units when he killed the nexus so it was pretty clear in my opinion that Hurricane would want to force an engagement.
edit:

He could only "bait" the Medivacs and Vikings away because they were very out of position in the first place though... They should be behind his Bio to be protected from Stalkers, not in front of it. That's a really bad blunder.

I think the throw part is MKP letting his army get into that position in the first place. :p

indeed, and even then he could have ran away with a stim if his reaction time was faster there, wouldn't have lost that many units.

And letting his 3rd pretty much burn down to a couple of zealots. His reactions seem pretty slow of late.

It's a throw. You can easily put vikings and medivacs "away" from toss units by puting them with bio :D And simply do not a-move all map long with those types of units :/

It's a throw in the sense that he wasn't thinking clearly. He may have thought he was too ahead to lose and just casually moved his army back without formation.
He had a number of options open to him - he could have rushed back to his natural by stimming his army keeping formation intact or he could have lifted his CC at his third and defended zealots at his natural while multitasking his main army.
Well, thats another career going to die unless he gets out of Prime and into a different atmosphere. Seed has done it by going to FXO to try something new to get his career going again. Too much of the same thing is bad. MKP DRG need to do something different, i refuse to let MKP die
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ((((((((((((((((((((((((( Goddamn MarineKing, some drops and a bunker, is that too much to ask?
I don't know why Marineking forced that first engagement at the third. Both Time Warps were dropped the MsC was totally out of energy and he just stood in the Time Warp and ate the the extra damage from the Zealots as a result.
I feel like HotS doesn't fit MKP's style at all, protoss can defend very well so these mid game agressions on one point can't really do well, thus you are forced to take small advantages and wait for the late game to use them, instead of powering through your opponent like on WoL.
These proxy pylons always working against MKP are saddening too, he needs a complete revamp of playstyle :/.
Tear and Hurricane, exactly who I wanted to make it today. :D Yay! LG-IM with 4 Code S players so far, next up YongHwa will finally make a proper attempt instead of going to foreign tournaments.
I'm sorry marine king doesn't deserve to be in code s on those displays. its like he doesn't learn from his mistakes at all. no scanning for observers essentially giving the protoss a free maphack every game and then letting zealot run-bys rape you time and time again and not either sim city-ing or just popping up some static defence.....
mkp played poorly to finish this, he started off bad but got a distinct advantage when he killed all colossi in the middle. He controlled his vikings poorly in every fight since, you really need about 4~ vikings per colossus in those later fights, he had like 1-2 vikings per colossus.
MKP needs to get on a team that can coach him harder (ST or a kespa team more likely), PRIME players seem to lack strategy/preparation and that's usually on coaches...

there we go blaming the coaches like we did with LG-IM Prime used to have really good preping in WoL.. Don't know what's happening T_T They need support asap. It's hard to maintain motivation in such a 'depressing' environment T_T
ah well i actually honestly thought mkp would go 0-4 today, glad to see he can still win some games at least. he has a good shot of making the nestea award if he improves

If Leenock requalifies for the next season his NesTea award is slightly more awesome : p

I'm not saying it's entirely on the coaches, MKP is a player who has some glaring flaws, but one of those is his ability to strategize prior to and during a game, and it's clear whatever Gerrard is doing with him isn't working out in HotS...and it's not just him, but Creator and ByuN have huge talent pools to draw on and are suffering in HotS as well :/ I love PRIME ut they need help...and a Zerg, so surprised they didn't go after CoCa yet!
DRG and MKP should not get the award, because of Blizzard GSL and OSL have to alternate now but you still failed to retain your Code S spot for 10 seasons in a row. It should make absolutely no difference where It's held. They should just discontinue the award entirely.

He played well today imho, this was actually one of the hardest groups he could get. Had he played like this in one of the previous two groups, I think he would've made it.
the award isn't something that means much, anyway. i'm not too fussed about it, just an arbitrary number that doesn't really affect your prize winnings or whatever

edit: after giving it to leenock
I agree with this. The award will be way too hard to get in the future for newcomers and since Leenock did what was required he should get it and then they should just discontinue it.
I don't care about some reward, I just want MarineKing to play dominantly like he did like...1 year and a half ago? God that's an eternity since I've not witnessed that.

well, as sad as it is, neither of them has been a relevant player for like a year. I feel like they both suffer from the same weakness. They both weren't able to adapt to the more textbooklike starcraft and raw skill just isn't enough anymore these days.

I don't know if you meant it that way, but if you mean that raw skill alone can't make you power through anymore, first I have to fully agree, and second, as the biggest MKP fan out there, I would even argue that MKP's raw skill itself just isn't enough anymore. It was at the top before, but standards have changed. He still has top micro and macro, but his multitasking is really lacking. His sense of aggression seems to have dulled too. Before you would see that he knew he could kill the guy the instant he pulled SCVs, nowadays it just seems that he's doing it randomly because he's seen others do it :/
When I see MKP play, I always tell myself "B-b-b-but...why doesn't he play more like Innovation?". Silly me

Actually, DRG used to play textbook Zerg. He was never like Leenock or Life, he played very standard. He's still doing what he used to do before, or trying to, but his execution is not what it used to be and it was his execution that put him above everyone else when he was at the top.

Yeah, he was the textbook zerg. I don't think his execution is the problem - though I haven't seen many games of him lately. From what I have seen, he just plays 2011 WoL zerg in 2013 HotS. At least that's what he did in 2012. And it was already quite bad strategywise at that time.

I thought Tear was Hurricane?
I'm not a smart man. Actually it wasn't me being stupid, just a Freudian slip, since I was pondering which name of Hurricane/Tear to write in the post, and accidentally replaced First's name with the words I had been fixated upon.
