why not ban koreans from sc2 outside of korea. that will surely help the growth of esports. i know i wont be watching wcs eu or na then.
Suddenly? This was called out as problem as soon as the system was announced. And the "I won't be watching eu or na then" is meaningless because people like you are such a small minority that it would barely be noticed. Esports doesnt grow because of koreans. It grows with the *western* audience.

Polt contributes pretty much exclusively to AM now, so I feel it makes sense he's locked to AM. Same with ForGG for EU, he's only playing in EU right? That means for the AM and EU money, these players need to actually be contributing to those regions and with that raising the skill level of those regions. And if you do hardcore region locking nobody will care when you win a european/american tournament since they know there are a 100 koreans you won't even touch. This is exactly what happened with BW. Then don't fucking call it WCS EUROPE... I would even go so far and call it false marketing by Blizzard ... Why. The name says the tournament is part of Blizzards WCS and played out in Europe. And the tournament is exactly what it says on the tin. It is the tournament to crown the european champion, which guess what, is not european. Read my post about my CL analogy if you can't follow me.
24 out of 32 in EU were invites, only 3 of them were Korean. 2 Koreans got top 4. It's not their fault that EU players aren't very good. GSL gave countless seeds to foreigners over the years.

Woosh. My statement was made concerning the title of WCS EU. It is called the European championship because it's supposed to be the champion of European players. No one cares where the people are when they play- look at WCS AM, the first rounds were played online with people literally playing from Korea.

IEM tournaments are named for where they are played at. Should only people from that location be allowed to play in them?

Lets allow Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and all the rest into the Norwegian leagues! -- Bet you're one of those people that didn't complain when foreigners got seeds for the GSL Because the GSL was never meant to crown the "Korean champion"? to be honest how many people would watcht wcs if there wasn't any Koreans? especially if you think of NA player pool! My point is that its ridiculous to call Mvp the "European" champion or whoever wins WCS America the "American" champion. I'm willing to admit that the presence of Koreans in those two tournaments increased the skill level and likely the viewership, but what neither of those tournaments do is determine the best player in either region. The way WCS is set-up right now is just weird, and I somewhat resent it because it means I'll probably never see Mvp (among many strong Koreans) in a GSL (or an OSL) ever again. I want MvP to go for a fifth GSL or his first OSL, not become the champion of a continent he has absolutely zero ties to. Im actually concerned about how when they region lock WCS (which at this point its a fair assumption next year they will) what that will mean for the Koreans who aren't in GSL/OSL currently since several dropped out to play in other regions. Probably bad things.
There are problems with the WCS format beyond region locking and taking players away from GSL / OSL. One of them is that its just so damn difficult to switch from one region to another, you essentially have to sacrifice a year's worth of results. Would be a lot better if they did it like with the BW OSL / MSL where you had a chance to win any season from the qualifiers.

If the regions are not locked, then this is just the beginning of a flood of Koreans. More and more 2nd tier Koreans are going to make the move to go after the easy money. You will have a situation of the round of 8 being all Korean in EU and especially NA.

Actually, it is called WCS EU because it determines the champion of the European region by playing out the Ro16 and forward in Europe. It doesn't have anything to do with who lives where or who is a citizen of what country, the only thing that matters is that the players are in Europe for the live rounds. You might want it to be otherwise, but that's not the case.
