INFORMATION (Why these are played): These matches are for the 5th and 6th (Korea is the host region) Code S places. We need them to decide the final spots in the Season Finals. Leenock's DreamHack win awarded points that go toward the Grand Finals at Blizzcon, and not the Season Finals.

Since tastosis said that their next cast will be thursday on todays gsl cast I'm fairly sure wolf/khaldor will cast this tomorrow. Really hoping parting makes it, would be a shame to have wcs s1 finals without last years world champion.

Asked on twitter. Will post confirmation at OP when confirmed who is casting.

I think its just points towards the world series final... higher placing = more points, but i don't really know either
Ah yeah that would make more sense. Guess more points for 5th and 6th than 7th and 8th :S
It is for the world season 1 finals. After season 1 is completed top 5 players from each region +1 extra from hosting region, which is Korea for the season 1 come together to play LAN tournament with prize pool of $100,000.
The seasonal finals are just the top 5 from each region their local Premier League (top 6 from organising region), so since we have a Ro8 and Ro4 in the tournaments the Ro4 is automatically qualified and there are 1/2 more spots for players eliminated in the Ro8. Korea organises the S1 seasonal final, so GOM decided to just randomly match them up and the winners are qualified for the seasonal final.
A group like we have in Ro32 and Ro16 would probably be fairest in this case, and if only one spot is up for grabs a simple 4 player bracket would probably work best.
Points are only for the finals at the end of year I think. Either way there is no indication that the winners from these matches will get more points, and if the seasonal final qualification was points based, Leenock would be guaranteed in. He has more points than anyone who didn't make it to Ro4.

looks like no, Code A is only the earlier session, and then it goes into these matches http://www.gomtv.net/schedule/index.gom woa sick Code A matches tonight
The TL calendar doesn't agree with the gomtv.net schedule! gomtv.net says that these placement matches start at Wednesday, May 22 9:10am GMT (GMT+00:00) in
Isn't Leenock ahead of them with his 750 DH points and like 100 Code S points? So the winners of the games would be 6th and 7th, meaning only one could go to the Season 1 finals.

yea interesting that there's no 6th/7th place match? Or maybe they will have one later if it's needed?

Points are only important for Blizzcon at the end of the year, they're completely worthless until then.
1-5th in WCS AM & EU go to the season finals, 1-6th in WCS KR go to the season finals. Next season when EU or NA hosts it they will get 6 spots instead of KR.

the points do not matter for the seasonal finals, only the year end finals. so these spots are to get into the seasonal finals, where yet more points (and dollars) await.

Pretty sure those only count for the very last grand world final championship or whatever its called
On May 22 2013 16:37 monk wrote: Does anyone know when the winners of these two matches will play?
They shouldnt have to play because Artosis already said Korea hosts the first season finals and 6 players from the host region get to play instead of the normal 5 so that they can do a 16 man tournament

yeah, I think calling them 'placement matches' makes people think they are meaningless when they are actually really important. They should have called them Season Finale Qualification Matches or something like that
my grandparents are over for a few days. yesterday evening when i watched round of 4 VODs my grandpa sat down to watch a bit of it with me. he had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on but he seemed kind of entertained even though he doesn't even speak english for shit. maybe i'll get him to watch tonight as well

Random, probably with paper. OR they made it so KeSPA didn't meet eSF. (I realize you want to flamebait, but can't be assed. This might help people wondering).

The brackets will be determined by random drawing and the each match will be a best of 5. This season there will be 6 qualified players from the Korea region so there will be only 2 matches.

I'm not flamebaitin' and I guess it's a compromise between KeSPA and eSF probably. I wanna see good matches and that's enough.

Really? Where is this lazy comment coming from? It's probably not up to them what matches they cast.
What EpiK said and in addition to that: Its just nice to see some 'fresh' wind as in other people casting Code S. I really like Tastosis but Khaldor + Wolf are great and lets see how their casting is with RorO/Parting etc. Don't know why anyone would see the need to bash anything here

Well, KangHo vs Bomber has a chance to be fun and good. TvZ you know. Having another terran in the season finals is better too.

Hmm "fresh wind". I'm pretty sure Khaldor and Wolf have been casting twice as many GSL matches as Tasteless and Artosis for a while now. They would have been "fresh" a year and a half ago, now Tastosis feels pretty fresh once in a while :D
Jesus christ PartinG lols that build if he randomly doesn't send all his units to watch tower >.< Also why didn't he resend probe out for the 6min scout and see 0 drones...
Roro spawns in the top right Parting spawns in the bottom left
0:00-4:00min Nexus first for Parting, then Forge in the main Pool first, then Hatchery for Roro
Parting starts to wall his natural with Pylon, Gateway and Cannon Roro builds his first Queen and Extractor
4:00-6:00min Third base for Roro, 8 Lings in production, Ling-Speed started Parting starts a Zealot and Cybernetics Core
+1 attack and warpgate research started for Parting more Lings in production for Roro
Parting moves out with his Zealot to take the watch tower and startss a Stalker Roro moves his Lings towards Parting's third, out of vision range of the watch tower
6:00-8:00min Ling-Speed about to finish Parting builds a 2nd Stalker and moves out with his first
Roro moves in with his Lings as Parting moves out with the Stalker Parting is not able to block at the wall, Lings stream in
Parting pulls the Probes in the natural to defend the Cannon but Roro has too many Lings the Probes fall, the Cannon falls, the Gateway units fall
Parting tries to build 2 cannons in his main mineral line but more Lings of Roro stream in Roro starts attacking the Probes at the main and Parting is forced to leave the game

How many GSL Code S matches have you seen Khaldor and Wolf cast? Thats what I meant. Not that Code A is lackluster in players, but Code S still has some of the very top players that don't get casted by them too often. Khaldor and Wolf are also not "thats the best player everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" so yeah, not trying to bash anyone, just like to see another style here and then.
Well PartinG is defo in better shape this time. 2 base gas build vs Phoenix opener...interesting ^_^ Oh wait he canceled the gas, ling upgrades from 2 base :S

I don't know man, Code A now is pretty much Code S from 6 months ago. I don't know why their Bomber-KangHo cast would be different from their Rain-Byun cast. And who casts better is still a matter a preference, not all of us fault Tasteless for his silly "Innovation is the best RTS World of Tanks player ever" :p

I don't fault Tasteless for it. Neither do I think Khaldor and Wolf are better than Tastosis, they just have a different style and I like to hear that from time to time - for official Code S matches. I really don't see a point in discussing here

Great game. All came down to Parting's positioning in that last battle and those Archon shots. He was pretty ahead until the muta switch though, he really should have ended the game before that happened.

These games are extremely important, the winners of these matches go to the WCS Season 1 finals which has a big prize pool and a lot of WCS points available.
The WCS season finals will have 6 players from KR, and 5 from NA and EU.

They're playing for 5th or 6th place. Winner gets 5th place. It's important this season because of the new WCS points system.
Oh, and from the OP:

Which they would do well enough with pulse crystals anyway. Now 5-6 phoenixes can totally shutdown early mutas.
Hey what song is that they are playing on the break right now? Its got cartoons placed in the real world for the music video, first song played after the second game.

Well, Mutas got buffed as well, to the extent that you can't actually defend with just Storm/Blink anymore. I think the default response to Protoss losing his initial 4-5 Phoenix should be a Muta switch, if at all possible. I don't think I've ever seen that not pay off; even if the Protoss wins, it's usually very close.

Parting takes out the 4th of Roro Roro taks addtional bases at the bottom left of the map
RoRo haven't even touched PartinGs bases, even when PartinG is waaaaay out of position to defend. Mutas will win base trade scenarios in 80 % of the cases, so I have no idea what RoRo is doing here with such a massive amount of Mutas.
What is RorO doing? He's running around with mutas... he could fight the main army of PartinG and win OR basetrade, I don't know what he's doing seriously.

RorO's micro and engagements aren't that good to begin with, I don't remember seeing him going once with Mutalisks in WoL.
OMG PartinG worst descion ever....lets engage battle and forget to move my templar into position ^_^ PartinGs 4th base might win him this though, RorO has nothing really to attack him yet.
That was really awesome, but Parting could have won if he wasn't so aggressive with his phoenixes throughout the game and lost a lot for no reason to corruptors.
Honestly that was a shitty ending. If parting would have just kept his HT's with his army both times he would have won easily. Why did he keep leaving them behind?
Had Parting micro'd that last phoenix + archon battle better he'd have won. He had archons attacking a single muta when there were like 4 of them bunched up, and his phoenixes was on the wrong side attacking corruptors.

He wouldn't have won, the game just would have gone on a bit longer because the mutas would have retreated and healed to full from the storms in like 1 minute.

He would have won EASY. Not even remotely close. He fought the big battle without 5-6 HTs. If he has them it is not even close. He left them behind and fought without and lost the game because of it. How he could justify leaving his best units behind blows my mind.

and do what? distance ninja-distance mine from the same patches that roro is distance mining from? There's no way parting would be mining from the lower half anymore. if he has to rebuild, he's spending his money to create more money, and roro has that exisiting mining already without having to invest in more drones.

It happens when you play a really good opponent. There's unforced mistakes, and there's forced mistakes where you make your opponent do so many things at once that some are bound to be mistakes.

It was really close even tough he forgot two times his high templars . With them even whithout money storms PartinG would have won .

Mutas are just beyond a joke, he literally went mass muta with a few Corrupter support to take on everying in the protoss arsenal apart from tier 3 air which would of been even worst off. Seriously something major needs to be done about that unit to help protoss. At Pro level and lower levels mutas are the bane of toss.
Both players played extremely well it just came down to two major mistakes by Parting being caught without templars at the hidden bottom base and taking a fight with the templar lagging behind at Roro's third. It was definitely one of the best PvZ's we have seen.

yea sure but parting could just move his workes back to the cannons instead of attack with them ~~ he could still do smthing
Are you stupid? RoRo had workers long distance mining plus an army to kill any workers that moved out to try and kill his workers. If RoRo had no workers, it would have been a draw.

If protoss let zerg to have 10 gases that early, what do you expect.

The thing I wonder is if Protoss can get into a composition that Zerg has even more trouble if they dont play this way. I can see this kind of strategy getting very tiresome soon but maybe the meta will change. The last 3-4 PvZ's I have watched have all been these exact same strats. Would love for some variety.

Good one! He has personality. Roro doesn't, which is what I was suggesting.
If you're Koren, you probably have no clue what Stephano's personality is because you don't know what the fuck he's saying. Same goes with Roro. Dude had tons of fans come watch him at the finals. He has a very big female fan base. Just because he doesn't have tons of foreign followers on Twitter doesn't mean he's unpopular or have no personality. Most people following on Twitter are foreigners.

roro definitely showed personality in the group selection ceremony and in live interviews. He was pretty funny in the banter with the commentators in the ceremony, and seemed like a very easygoing/cool person. Not everyone likes to openly express happiness or relief. Doesn't mean they're boring people.

drop it mate, being a honorable sportsman means having no personality these days. you gotta cry and yell all the time like a zoo animal in order to be called charismatic, it's the same with every sport really.

I think you are just missing on his personality because you don't speak his language and thus can't catch the nuances in interviews, really. That goes for all Koreans, who are no less or more open than foreigners when you compare what they are actually saying and how they are acting. (In fact, Koreans smack-talk very often, more than foreigners, it seems to me.)

yeah.. I just read in the Guardian the other day that Idra is a genius and one of the best zergs in sc2.
I think if there's one thing we can say confidently about HotS compared to Wings It's that Zerg is no longer a passive race, no more rushing to hive and hiding behind spines. In most ZvT's the Zerg is the one doing the first attack.

Makes sense. I agree that a lack of personality is wrong. The problem is I feel he intentionally restrained emotion after his victory, as many Kespa players tend to do, which is so much less satisfying from a viewer's perspective. I as a spectator want that torrent of emotion generated within the game to reflected on the face's of the players. I keep thinking back to a hunching double fist pump Flash did in proleague after an all kill. We need more of that.

Did you see the part where Bomber loaded up 2 medivac with marauders to lure the mutas away so his vikings can start hitting the broodlords? Thats some tactical shit
Bomber needed about 6-7 macro orbitals. When he maxed he needed to commit to more orbitals so he could sac more scvs for more ravens. If he had say 10-12 ravens rather than 5 he would have been a lot better prepared against broodlords.

Erhm, the only thing you do by killing those drones, if you are opening greedy, is force any aggression to be more all inish, a 3 hatch zerg has no trouble reinforcing their mineral lines. I thought we already discussed this.

4 widow mines oneshot an ultralisk lol, how is that terrible?
Well if you rely on AI, i don't believe they'll all target the same ultralisk if there's another target in range, i could be wrong, but it's a mechanism to avoid overkill.

Takes 10 seconds to 'oneshot' it. Because only one mine can attack at a time
unless you micro your widow mines
No. A target can only be attacked by one widow mine at a time... you cannot manually target on a target that is already targetted. And even if you can, the mine cannot attack it as long as the other mine does target it. Otherwise a big minefield would slaughter ultras, which it does not.

Yeah that's correct, you can just select 4 mines and target with them, just like you would select a few marauders and single target an ultralisk, so widow mines are definately not terrible against ultralisk. I'd argue they are very cost effiecient (spelling ftw)

Its quite normal. Not every player kombination gives instant classic matches or shows the individual strenghts of each player. Gumiho vs Losira gave some of the best games in WoL but its not like that means they would simply slaughter their next round.
In the end you always can only play so good like your enemy is letting you.

Yes, and not attack at the same time, but with delay. Sorry but I prefer 10 Tanks, 4 Thors to battle that.. but on the other hand, I don't get into such a position as Terran, because I don't rely on them and tank/marine dominates muta/ling/bane.

Thats true as well. They know each other so well that they try things that are not their playstyle at all sometimes and that will rarely look good.
Kangho spawns in the bottom right Bomber spawns in the top left
0:00-4:00min quick Gas and Pool for Kangho CC first for Bomber
Kangho tries to block the Rax of Bomber to delay the wall but Bomber gets the Rax down Refinery for Bomber
Roach Warren started for Kangho, the scouting Drone is still alive
4:00-6:00min Factory started for Bomber 7 Roaches in production for Kangho
3rd CC for Bomber, no scouting at all yet Roaches pop out and start walking cross map
Bomber builds a Bunker at his natural Tech Lab at the Rax, single Hellion production started
6:00-8:00min Roaches attack the natural of Bomber Bomber gets the depot wall up in time and pulls SCVs to repair the Bunker
For some reason Bomber lowered a Depot and let the Roaches in...... The Bunker falls, SCVs fall, Bomber tries to block the main ramp but Kangho pushes through
A single Widow Mine burrows but gets activated by a Roach Bomber tries to micro with 2 Marauders and his leftover SCVs but Kangho focuses the Marauders and then kills the SCVs

They all will attack at the same time and oneshot the ultra if you target the same ultra with all of them at the same time. There might be other compositions that are better against ultras, but saying that 300/100 worth of units who oneshot a 300/200 unit is terrible is just wrong.

But seriously! Both Roro and Kangho owned the day I must say!
Are you sarcastic? If not latest Code S was won by RorO and Dreamhack Open was won by Leenock. We had a MLG somewhere around release which Life won.
I thought the "But seriously" covered that! Ofcourse I was sarcastic xD 4/6 major HotS tournaments won by zerg! My congratulations to Roro and Kangho werent sarcastic though, they played really well.

If you had asked me to predict which LG-IM player would advance to the season finals from WCS Korea before this season I would not have said Losira.
I would have said yoda ez. Now I go cry.
One day Yoda will just do everything Mvp does but without broken body parts, one day.
Maybe everything except for capture out hearts<3
I love Innovation and Flash, but Mvp is just a sweetheart.
You can't say no to that face.

Once he's in the booth or behind a pc he shows very little emotion, but outside he has shown to be very funny. I remember seeing footage how Mvp was making jokes about how wealthy he was and how he was eating caviar for breakfast, really funny guy.

Anything to do with caviar eating a joke, dear god the sheer notion of that stuff is foul ><;

Most of MVP's awarding ceremony pics have him with a big smile. Flash, even when he wins a championship, still can't seem to display a big and wide smile. Because once he does, then the world can end.

I can't complain though, I've missed the magical feline. :p
yeah, I honestly didn't understand all the hype for losira. But his ZvT looked pretty great despite bomber making a lot of mistakes.

Game 2 was a long macro game where Bomber had a huge lead early on with some Hellions that he managed to get into Losira's base but Losira played really well and managed to come back. Game 1 and 3 were Roach all ins.

Most of the time when he wins a series he has a big smile on afterwards from what I remember

game 1 was a ling/bane all-in, but close enough i suppose.

They only needed to differentiate 5/6th and 7/8th so this is the simplest format. If they had a full group, it would take longer and give them information they don't need (separate 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th).
What is the reason for liking bomber? When I watch his games, there's nothing in there that really makes me feel excited. Win or lose, he feels so cookie-cutter terran to me. I watch his games because I generally find games with terran involved more exciting than ZvZvPvP. But never really cared for his success simply because I want to watch more of his games.

I was wondering the same, but it seems like in the Round of 8 and beyond, you must win the match set before you. Sure, there is some luck involved with what draw you get.

Is there a story here that I'm not aware of?
He was looking really really good during 2011, when he won Code A. People were hyping him to win GSL for sure. He's a guy who has flashes of brilliance. Of course, he also has moments of mediocrity and mental collapse, so overall he averages out to be an average, possibly below average Korean Terran.
Plus, he does have a bit of a style of dancing units and manner MULEs, which I guess some find entertaining or endearing.
I pity Bomber fans. They have to put up with so much disappointment and heartbreak. Bomber could have been as successful of Mvp had been in late 2011, but he choked.

Hmmm, not really. With a group, you could end up with Parting/Roro or Bomber/KangHo both advancing. IMO Parting and Roro are the clear 2 best out of the 4, it's a shame they played one another
