Ben Nichol @MrBitterTV 11s So @RotterdaM08 and I won't be able to cast WCS Quals today. Being told Blizz insisting that all English casts go to official WCS channels.
fuck blizzard! wtf! they just jelly because nasl stole nb1 english stream from the official wcs channel. Came to the LR thread to see when the NASL cast would go up. For the sake of clarity: ESL told us that they would allow us to stream to WCS_Europe2. Problem here is that since we're not officially involved in WCS we would essentially be working for free. 2 casters, 2 production people, 8+ hours dedicated to a stream channel that isn't ours. As much as Kev and I would love to cast the games, of course our boss isn't going to allow it. So the dispute was "Is NASL allowed to stream WCS Qualifiers to NASL channels?". The answer to that question, at least for now, is "no". LOL....so it has nothing to do with not letting NASL cast, it is simply that you can't do it on the NASL channel, but have to use a WCS channel for a WCS tournament...DUH! If you guys were really so upset, cast it from home on the proper channel. I'm shocked you guys thought you were going to get something out of casting something you aren't even a part of...your a community stream, you don't get paid!!! ffs, stop acting like it is someone stopping you from casting Bro, it's not Ben or mine's call. We wanna cast more than anything and would _LOVE_ to do it for free, we simply can't just run this studio and get 2 production guys to work with us if our boss doesn't allow us. Just like anywhere else in the world we are supposed to work on a Wednesday, if our boss doesn't wanna use the resources to let us cast there is nothing we can do. I am actually really upset and couldn't care less on which channel its casted, i can understand my boss for not wanting to pay 4 people for something he has absolutely 0 return in though ( the production people are payed hourly and Ben and me are full time but if we are casting we are obviously not working on something else that does benefit nasl ) , but that's a different story. It doesn't change that Ben and me would love to cast, and skipping work to cast from home is not really an option, obviously my boss wouldn't like it if we are "suddenly" sick while we were just in the office, nor will the production be anywhere near as good, it will just be a webcam and a cheap microphone bedroom cast, not really what you guys are waiting for either I guess, I'm just sad since I just wanted to cast and I can guarantee you same goes for Ben, we wouldn't earn anything either way since we are full time employers so it makes no difference. We just wanna cast, but unfortunately I'm just a useless peon who has to follow orders and can't make any calls. Nothing you can do here, just a huge thanks for the great cast yesterday. If I was your boss I would take the free publicity by casting this for free and look like a hero at the same time.
I can totally understand NASL's boss.
It would be cool by Blizzard to make an exception. People are angry if they don't change it. WCS is for the community to celebrate itself. Why do they want to add another shitstorm to their tournament? Something of value will be lost if they don't change their minds.

This guy could have won the game. If he would have went for the natural and main he would won a fight easy.

As a start they lost me for the day. While I totally respect Kalearis I just don't enjoy the casting. So see you next time

Yeah, it was painful to watch him slam his head into a base where literally all of the Zerg's Swarm Hosts were at. No attempt to Warp Prism or launch an attack with his army on the other side of the map.
Interesting build though, I think it's actually pretty good. Just needs more solid execution and strategy.

Man Livezerg is palying Hydra/SH/Infestor/Viper/Broodlord/Corruptor/Ultra holy shit :D.

Dragon best WCS viewernumbers after wcs channel. So funny a non english guy gets most viewers when casting but is not listed as an official stream:D

Mate playing so bad. Why attack in the choke where all the infestors and SH are ? Why dont harass everywhere with double prism, forcing the zerg to change his position ? -.-

oh man, Dragon is casting too :D

I mean, both positions are understandable. But let's be clear on some stuff here:
Part of the whole point of the WCS is to allow the best in a given region to do their thing, even if there are people in other places who are better at it. Example: Korean players are better. But (ideally...) most of them end up going through the korean qualifiers, while EU players get to play there.
NASL is better at producing content than ESL. Like, Koreans vs. North American GM better. It sort of seems like letting NASL come in and beat up ESL's viewer count is against the spirit of the WCS.
As a result of regionalism, which has some benefits, you get some drawbacks: The players involved are not as good, and the casters involved are not as good.
Personally, I'm not really interested in watching Kaelaris, who is an okay caster, solo-cast for 10 hours with 0 production behind him. Hats off to him, he's a trucker, but it isn't my cup of tea. I'd be watching NASL if they cast.

I'm just curious, but you mentioned that you're not allowed to run home and cast from there. What are you still doing at the studio now that you can't cast WCS?
There is quite some stuff going behind the scenes for nasl, I guess more will be public soon, basically just preparing for feature projects, do research on the things they ask me to do, and yeah, you know, the office life. A little bit of everything, I'd be lying if i say I'm very busy but there is always some stuff to do, obviously it's part of me being a full time employee that it's not always fun and games and sometimes you gotta do other work than just cast as well, needless to say I much prefer casting _starcraft_, it's literally something that has never ever felt like work, even doing research and what not is fun, I love statistics ( even when I was a horrible student back in the days ;P statistics is something that I always enjoyed, sports records as well etc ) and going over previous records is something I enjoy rather than that it feels like I'm "working" on something, I love my actual job as a caster, its the best thing that ever happened to me, and not casting for quite a while has seriously made me enjoy life a whole lot less lately, even though I'm not in the position to complain anything as so many people have it worse or are unemployed, it's weird to go from something you absolutely love to do and you used to do 3/4 times in the week to... almost never, that's why I started casting some stuff from home just for the sake of casting again, I enjoy doing it and will always find ways to cast stuff as long as people enjoy watching me, I will cast~

They're definitely going to lose viewers over this. Kalaeris isn't bad as a caster, but more people want to watch Bitterdam + Stephano along with NASL's always entertaining production.
IMO Blizzard only stands to gain from allowing NASL to cast - it'll bring in tons of viewers and create hype around WCS Europe. That hype will translate into more viewers for ESL later on, and potentially more views to WCS Korea and WCS NA. It's a qualifier, there's no need to be stingy, but there is very much a need to get people watching the event now so they watch it later on.
Although, at least there are streams with almost every game - I can't wait to see people's reactions when MLG shows about 4 "highlight" games from replay of the NA qualifiers, which is supposedly what they're going to do.
|
Is Dragon allowed to play in EU qualifier ? He already played in korean code A quali.
|
I think Blizzard/ESL underestimated the interest in these qualifiers else they'd have organized more than one official english stream. I for example wanna hop from stream to stream catching the maximum amount of potentially interesting games.
