I really don't think Life, the greatest zerg at the time really forgot to build a roach warren. I think he did it because he didn't feel like he needed to.

He didn't intend for the damage to happen. Building roaches requires gas and minerals, larva and supply. They DO delay your EVERYTHING. He probably didn't want to use the gas that way. Please man.
