While the North American Star League prepares for NASL Season 4, the crew has but one question for the public: Who will survive The Gauntlet?
Beginning Wednesday, August 1st at 10am PDT, the NASL Gauntlet will be a regional King of the Hill (KoTH) style tournament that is open to the public. Each night, players from the designated region who are in the announced Battle.net lobby chat will have a chance to be selected in one of the 9 games for the evening.
There is $75 on the line for every game, and the competition is open to the public! All interested competitors need to do is be present in the lobby NASL Gauntlet for a chance to play.
[IMPORTANT] After each region has been played 3 times, the audience will be asked to vote for their favorite player in the Gauntlet via the NASL FaceBook Page. Voting will be limited to players who have earned at least $150. Once the voting completes, the four most popular players will compete in a single elimination tournament for the Gauntlet.
First place in the Gauntlet will earn $1000. Second place in the Gauntlet will earn $500.

If this is a success, would you guys consider doing something really community/grassroots focused, like doing a Bronze/Silver (Gold - Diamond, etc.) version of this? That would be super fun

This is not necessarily current GM's, but people who are 'gm level' , i.e. who are or have been in GM (mostly just to make sure we don't get flooded with 3490345903450943 people) :D
Using GM only isn't such a great idea for Korea, there are extremely good players in masters just cause so many alt accounts are in GM. I can understand the need to do it for EU and NA though.

We won't be having a KOTH today because bnet is messed up (custom games are borked, servers lag). We'll be postponing it until a later date, when Bnet gets fixed. Sorry guys.
So much conflicting information, According to video, only eligibility requirement is to be in channel, and you only need to win 1 match instead of 2 to be eligible to vote.

NA has hackers galore.
As does every server, just like every other online tournament, the trust and integrity of the players will be taken. Though with the amount of money being offered for a little time project its great odds we see plenty of popular players. So hacking shouldn't be an issue, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Their affiliate GosuCoaching used to do a Gold tournament for cash, but it died due to lack of support and viewership last year. Who knows though, once they get a little more settled in I could see a Gold Cash tournament perchance happening again.
NA Day 1 KotH is going on as planned in 30 mins! You must be of GM level this season (or any previous season) and in channel NASL Gauntlet in order to be in the drawing for selected players to play tonight! Stream is live and games start in ~30 mins!
Just a little note on how players were picked. We wrote down the names of each player in the channel, organized by race, and narrowed the list down to 4 from each race ranked (semi-subjectively) by results/name value.
For players that were not chosen today but were very close (i.e. Glon, Sasquatch) - your names were taken down and will be given higher priority next time. We hope that we can give as many players a chance as possible - but do realize that there are more than 9 good players, but a limited number of slots. We will do our best to give players an opportunity to shine, however!

oh that's weird... so you are not mixing no namers with well known players? Just all the well known players to begin than the no namers towards the end? Or will some people be able to play more than once?
This is the first time I've noticed NASL using an instant replay thing like that... that is AWESOME. Only thing I'd suggest is making the screen of the live game a bit bigger. Otherwise, that's awesome.
Edit for those not watching: CatZ forces attention away from his proxy hatch (response to Caliber's cannon rush) by placing a second decoy expansion. And still manages to time his roach warren and gas perfectly, producing a queen and several roaches in the protoss main.

PiG has too many mechanical errors I feel which impended his playstyle. Being supply blocked at 160 supply for the longest time is simply basic, while being unable to deal with drops properly hurt him hard.

I agree. This is easy and quick money for Koreans, especially since they apparently don't have as many tournament options if they can't fly around internationally. This is a good opportunity for many players. Instant cash per win. Can't really beat that.

What do you mean 100% live? I believe this is live casting and live games, yes. I was just on Crank's stream when he was playing his games, and he was playing the appropriate opponents at that time, in custom games.

Yes it is, when Crank was playing, his stream showed him playing the identical game.
The tournament would benefit from more Koreans, especially the bigger names. As people have stated before, it is a quick and easy way to gain some decent cash.
Kind of a shame they couldn't get Koreans to fill out all the spots on their own server. I think the next days will be better if they get word out some how. Maybe aLive will tell his buddies.

Well, they sometimes have live casters casting replay, which is 50% live.

Yes because the player still has to win multiple game to get that cash, and if someone has been playing from earlier they are more tired/showing their builds off to the next opponents.

I wouldn't call me/sasquatch "no namers"... I've qualed for IPL5 and Sassy MLG Summer Arena. But yeah -- there needs to be SOME system to sift through players more effectively (like a coin flip maybe?)
How is a coin flip a more effective way than a results based criteria. The goal is to have a balance of race, so 3 zergs ideally. Sasquatch, you, vibe, goswser, catz, Scarlett, ostojiy ... more than half of this list gets left out. Theres not a really effective way to choose 3 players from a pool of 10 aside from picking randomly, which is essentially what we did after the initial list was gathered.
The method of randomness (coin flip, names in a hat, donkeys) has no bearing on the outcome.

My haphazard question was more about the fact that you say anyone can play, but then base the criteria on results. So if you are saying anyone can play than yes coin flip would be more effective. I would not have been confused if this was not advertised. From what I gather from your posts you are picking 9 people of each race over the 3 days based on results which means anyone who has been in grandmasters cannot actually play.

Saying "anyone can play" doesn't equate to "everyone will be able to play." We can only have a very limited number of games played in a day and have to consider several factors when selecting: a) who showed up to play, b) what players would our viewers care about watching, c) based on the current games, are there any players that, if in the channel, would create a fun and interesting game/story (I.E. there is bad blood between TT1 and Goswser, so putting that match on would be very interesting because there is a story behind it).
For example, I played basketball at a gym in Inglewood, CA two summers ago where many NBA/College players train. There are always pickup games at the gym and technically anyone could have played. That gym, and any gym you go to will always advertise that "anyone can play," it doesn't mean that everyone actually will play. That's just how it works - with a limited number of people who can play, there will always be others left out.
So let's say that there are 15 zergs who show up to play tonight, all Grand Master. If I put them on a list (even with a very basic setup like "who have results" and "who don't have results"), there is a pretty high chance that there will be at least 3 notable or semi-notable players on the list, and the other 12 zergs won't be playing. Just because they didn't get to play doesn't mean they could not have played.

Ok makes sense though I did not need that basketball analogy to understand
I played pick up basketball games at a major university gym and I am willingly to bet a lot that there are amazing non-NBA/college players that do get picked. :D
I really like this series. Just the concept is great, the amount of matches is not as great, but plenty acceptable. Also, Axslav is like Mini Sase in my mind. Gotta love Anyone who is like sase in my mind.

if one player is playing so much better than they other, they can just build to their desired composition and move in to crush his opponent.

In TvZ, you can see multiple massive fights. In TvP, Warp Gate does not allow for such a thing if the Terran player loses the engagement (since the Protoss player is one cycle of production ahead and thus is able to end the game right away most of the time), and it creates this usual “only one big fight” theme in the TvP match-up which, in my opinion, makes it rather uninteresting for viewers.
Although he lost, I am impressed with GoOdy here, his money was under 200 almost all the time and the game went nearly half an hour. He is really becoming one of the stronger foreign terrans.
Would be kind of interesting to have this open to everyone so that anyone, no matter what their level, could have a chance to play a pro. Maybe the pro could just pick anyone from the channel to play against, similarly to the old TL Attacks. That is such a fun and different format.

I don´t know, the pro could just pic way inferior players, execute the same fast timing with superioir micro again and again and getting more money because of that.
The KR days and NA days were pretty nice, but this time they dont really show great games. i mean europe got sooo many good players and they just show b-class players like goody and TvZ and ZvZ only -_-

Not a great idea when money is on the line and viewers want to see high level competition. What you're suggesting would have to be a different event.

Yeah, that is probably true. Maybe the money should just be something nominal, like 10 EUR so that it would not be worth it to sacrifice the "fun" over the money. Even so, it actually might be that the pros would be too good anyway so that the games against just some random guys would be kind of silly if no handicaps were introduced (again, similarly to TL Attack).
But at this point of SC2 I don't actually think that it's so figured out that a pro couldn't have at least a decently entertaining game against a diamond player, for example (when not playing absolute 100% of course). But it's very difficult to say.
Overall, I guess my point is that it would be very interesting to see pros play against "us", the average OK players, rather than against other pros which is what they do in every other tournament anyway.

MorroW is really bad since he's playing TvZ I dont know why he still do this. Maybe his ZvZ is bad or he considers it random, but its still better than having no chance at all by playing TvZ

Good job for him beating Select though.
that wasn't bm or i didn't intend it to be. i just wanted him to leave so i didn't have to tech to brood lords
Oh... dancing your units on multiple occasions and then saying Sup son?
Anyways, congrats on your run; you played really well during your matches.
i never said sup son? where did you get that from
and thank you for the compliment, but i seriously never said sup son. who said i did?
Gretorp said it, but I think he said it as more of like, your play was so good it was a Sup Son to Select. It was a weird one off comment that did come out like you actually said it though.
Yeah, that's what it sounded like =/ Sorry if you didn't actually type it.

he turns that into the hugest fucking lead
suppy is going to be a foreigner god holy fuck he's so good
Seriously I saw 130 vs. max and was like, well that's it for the Z...luckily Everize made a lot of mistakes, WP suppy!
yeah, overproduced scvs and suppy caught 3-4 drops
most of the credit goes to suppy with amazing engagements, gosu map awareness and creep spread, and holding off till hive where he can out micro everize as he is better
Has NASL said how the voting works? Do we get to vote for our favourite player, or our favourite four players? I know they pick four, just curious how many we get to vote for.

ahhhhh makes sense, just don't want people to think im THAT bm in a broadcasted match like that; i save the real bm for ladder
Really impressed with your play Kane! DDE isn't EZ. Not sure if I would see Kane in a global tournament, see this is what NASL should be about. Of course the Koreans ARE coming and won't miss them play either (meant in a good way) but nice to see Kane and Suppy be stars too!

Answer: Not many.
Now they're rolling in, that engagement was horrifically favoring MajOr, like...it wasn't even close. Clumped corrupters caused nearly every one to die with a seeker and a thor volley lol...

I still remember that game.... everything that could go wrong went wrong. Mishotkeys, unhotkeying all of hatcheries, ectect.
But select also played very well, so that combination = loss
