No, they didn´t. That was a group stage and after this single elimination.

Are people really complaining about double elim? You realize, even without double elim, Thorzain would have won because SortOf lost to naniwa earlier in the tournament right? And Thorzain won the winners bracket, which would have been the whole tournament.

Pretty sure that the Euro's don't use extended series. It is used almost exclusively for eSports competitions, but it makes sense, and if it wasn't here then SortOf wouldn't have had his epic run, and it pisses me off when people confuse it for extended series.

I must be living in some parallel universe but I haven't seen a double elimination tournament in the last 10+ years I've been watching football, or heard about one in the history of the game.
And it most definitely didn't happen at the Euro, where 2 winners of each group advanced into what's a classic single elimination bracket.

Congratulations to ThorZaIN, but I'm really happy that a new great talent like Sortof is becoming more famous.
As a side-note, Thorzain did face Sortof once before at the E-Sports SM final, which was one of the qualifier for WCS Sweden. Interesting tidibit is that the prize money for first place there was actually more than this event (10K vs. 6K).

Well done to SortOf and Seiplo too for qualifying for the Euros.
This was great, thanks to WCS, Blizzard and everyone involved in such awesome entertainment.
Yeah at some point we as a community should really let Blizzard know just how fucking awesome they've been with WCS. Like, for the inaugral run of it it's been comparatively FLAWLESS to any other major tournament. Sure it piggybacks off of existing organizations such as Dreamhack and MLG which is fantastic for all parties involved but I still would never have imagined a tournament so well organized as WCS has been so far. Consider that every major tournament other than GSL has had at least one major blunder early on in their SC2 career:
MLG Dallas IPL and the PPSL debacle (not entirely IPL's fault, though there also was some difficulty at the start of IPL3). WCG 2012 Dreamhack with the infamous Bischu Coin Flip NASL's Sound guy... and everything in the first few months of that tournament.
They're all fantastic tournaments but they all had growing pains early on.
Blizzard's WCS has been so well thought through it's insane. Top of the line casters at every event, the map veto system, all of it has been SO GOOD. Can't fucking WAIT for the continental finals. Europe will be insane and in the North American championship... let's just say that Winter is Coming for you America :p

No matter how you look at it double elim is a better and more exciting format for SC2. As a player I would prefer single elim with more bo5 but it gets really boring to watch.

Pretty sure they wouldn't. The quality of the game would be absolute shit because the players would be too tired to even run
Maybe if they had the other game on next day or some shit.

We may have fallen for a master troll guys...
But just in case, this also was not an extended series. If it was then there would be a seventh game so it sounds like you (Saber_Rider) are in fact in favor of extended series.
Edit: Just saw that was in the post I quoted. My brain is too fried right now.

I believe he wasn't swearing so much in the previous Dreamhack event that he hosted, but was strongly encouraged to do so by the Dreamhack CEO.
To nitpick a minor detail in the award ceremony, I had an impression that the tech director got a little drunk with power with all the music-timed switches and different camera angles. It can be done like this, but not when there are like 30 people left in the audience, half of them chatting among themselves and/or leaving (not to blame them, it's almost two in the morning). Just switch the front side cameras man, make at least the stream spectators feel like a massive audience is chanting.
