Depends what you classify as attacking. Artosis mentioned after that pressure is fine, and that is what Day9 usually refers to as attacking. In general, you don't want to fully commit to an attack if you are expanding, but that depends on what advantages you have in the game at that particular time. In that game, Keen had a better economy and a faster 3rd, there was no need to try and attempt to take map control against Byun who had a larger marine count.

Maybe thats why he won so much more than Tasteless I support day9 hands down.

what is tastless talking about lol, the basic rule is attack and get a base up while you do it >_>

Depends on the attack and its purpose. There are times when you attack as a way to pressure and give yourself time to expand safely, and there are times when you are trying to hit a timing and expanding robs critical resources from the attack and weakens it. For example, you would not want to expand while doing a 1-1-1, since you are not attacking to give yourself space to expand, you are attacking to kill.

I'm not saying that Tasteless is necessarily right in this case, but the number of people claiming that you always have to expand behind attacking is a bit dogmatic to me. Must be flexible and adapt to the dynamic conditions of the game.

i agree, but tasteless said the exact opposite... "never expand while you attack" and thats just bullshit, he noticed it himself and now it does not matter anymore :D

To be fair they both don't know the game very well. day9 used to

Uh, they don't say opposite things. It's always pressure-expand-defend. Keen, as Day9 or anybody would say is a good strategy, successfully pressured and got the expansion up faster. However after gaining his econ advantage he was down in army (although he would've been better off if he had seiged up in a safer position), and should've made the adjustment.

Uh... Day[9] says PRESSURE while expanding. You feign attack to make it seem like you're not expoing and aren't weak.

Tastless says don't commit to an attack while expanding.

Both make perfect sense. You guys just fail at comprehension of strategy.

How do you pressure without attacking? Even taking good spot on the maps & moving out is a form of attacking. & keen did not commit he just took the high ground next to his base, if this is not pressuring...

What if i told you that sc2 is not about rules that always count?
If you produce mostly tanks and you got no map vision you obviously do not move out while expanding....

That advice day9 gave was back in the time when people werent good at spending their money yet. In higher levels expanding while attacking is dumb. In lower levels where macro is not even close to decent yet it doesn't really hurt you that much.

Meh, I always feel like people who say things like these don't really play the game much, and pay way too much attention to random stuff casters say to fill up air time. You expand and attack based on you and your opponent's builds and timings. In some situations, for instance, it's perfectly fine to attack a 1 base player while expanding in PvP. Unless you're using "attack" as a synonym of "all-in", that rule is simply not true in general.

Raven out for Keen but both banshees are doing huge damage

Byun loses his banshee to a marine while Keen loses his to a viking
