Team GamersLeague proudly presents Norway's very first girl-only tournament for StarCraft 2!
The tournament will take place at Sunday, the 8th of July at 19.00 CEST for a maximum of 64 female players on the European SC2 server.
Team GL is doing this to promote their own female squad, and to help increase the gaming community for female StarCraft gamers. We will stream and cast the entire event; this is a great opportunity for female gamers of all levels to get involved, and for their fans to see high level play from the community’s girls.
GLsiriuzh the manager of the female Team GL hopes that this tournament will be the first of many, to increase competitiveness of females at all levels amongst in Europe and everywhere else. She also underlines that the most important aspect of StarCraft2 is to have fun, whether you define fun as winning a tournament and taking the #1 spot in the prize pool, or as having an entertaining time playing SC2 is of course completely up to you. Therefor the female squad has decided to not only offer prizes to the winners, but also have a raffle for all participants, provided by our wonderful sponsor Mamoz!! We will also provide a number of streams, depending on the size of the tournament, to be able to cover as many of games and give all the girls who enter the credit and fame they deserve!
StarCraft does not yet have a lot of female competitive players, it remains a highly male dominated scene, which can lead to questioning girls' abilities to compete at the highest level and create an unfriendly atmosphere. We hope that this tournament will encourage more girls to enter the casual and competitive scene, to show that it is alright for girls to have fun with games as well, and that games are not only made for guys.
The event has a quite an impressive prize pool, and even though this is hoped to not be the main attraction of the event, it certainly should not deter females from entering.
#1. $125 #2. $75 #3. $50
#Player Raffle: Participating players, who do not place, will all have a chance to win a 60 GB SSD.
So - do not be shy, join in the fun, watch - and even better: SIGN UP!
You can also like us - the female squad - on facebook or check out the general page.
Edit:
We now have the brackets ready.
The STREAM is set up!

Honestly feel like this tournament is discriminating against men... Imagine the shitstorm a man only tournament would make. Now, this is only my view and thoughts. So i would like to wish good luck to the tournament and all the females that joins!

Good thing, I like those kind of things, shows e-sports is still growing. Eventually we'll want very small and local tournaments for the amateurest of amateur and tournaments that rise up in skill until the top ones. That's something that'll help the competitive scene's player base so much, and eventually will make SC2 a much more global e-sport .
|
please, for the love of god, stop bringing up the whole "discriminating against men" bullshit in every female tournament thread. if it bothers you so much, find the appropriate thread to discuss it in.

i will not comment on the sexist comments but simply go: \ö/ for the tourny =)

I just scrolled through the team member list to see if there are any known names...
... one of the girls calls herself "kittentits"???

That happens when girls want to be taken seriously as a esport atheletes
Anyway, best of luck with your tournament hopefully you get good attention and publicity!

I think we should petition our governments to finance community organizations to fight the rampant anti-male sexism in esports. We need to stand up and fight for equality!

Not actually the same thing: adults have a distinct advantage over "juniors" just by nature in sports. I agree with Otolia; a man only tournament would create a shitstorm but lets give females their own tournament because having men in it would make it...unfair somehow?
|
The goal is to showcase female talent because they are underrepresented at main tournaments, which are open to both genders. Allowing males to enter screws with that goal because male progamers way outnumber female ones.

I'm curious about the level of play that will be shown here... :o Hope it's at least enjoyable.... (these kind of tournaments still don't make any sense to me)

I agree with Otolia; a man only tournament would create a shitstorm but lets give females their own tournament because having men in it would make it...unfair somehow? Guess what: No one's doing this because they think women "need" these tournaments to be able to compete or whatever. They're hosting women-only tournaments for the same reason FIDE created the women's chess world championship despite women being able to enter the regular world championship; to create interest in the game among women and attract more female players. Which is a GOOD thing for esports, since it's another way of making the scene grow. Women may be able to compete with men at the highest level, but the fact is I don't know of a single one even making the attempt except Scarlett (and I have no idea what her practice schedule is like) and arguably the various women on Korean teams, though who knows how seriously they practice. And there are no doubt many different reasons for this, but even if a tournament like this doesn't change anything about the approach to the game for 99% of decent female pro players, even 1% (or hell, .1%) dedicating themselves to the game and seeing some success might do a lot to pull more women into the scene.
As an aside based on that, does anyone know how the M:tG scene looks genderwise these days? I don't follow the game, but I know a few women got high placements and saw a good (and unprecedented) amount of success about a year ago or so, did it lead to continued success of and/or higher participation among women in tournaments, or was it a blip on the radar?

Don't you get it? There are 0 femals in most tournaments, if this was open for everyone... again there would be 99% men competing for that 250 dollar prize pool, thereby missing the whole point to showcase female players and bring their competitiveness up. Sure in some years, maybe it would be unecessary because female gamers are so main stream. But until then tournaments like these are a great idea. Greater acceptance and understanding will bring more diversity to the scene.

If a certain community runs a tournament it's their cup. They only post here because they want to raise awarness so women can participate. Nobody complains when people have country only tournaments.
|
Just a heads-up if you want to do another one, instead of having people sign up. Invite them. There is quite a lot female masters in EU and reaching out to these communities might prove more successful.
Aside from that, go Moomins \o/

There IS no female talent to showcase. If you wanna showcase talent, don't do it a special tournament put aside just for you, because if anything that just makes you look even worse at whatever it is you're doing.

Greater acceptance and understanding will bring more diversity to the scene. The problem is obviously that people don't see past the gender. If this was open to everyone, it would be a good tournament with good players and good games. A small amount of female players that are good is not a problem, at least it shouldn't be. You know there aren't a lot of black people at top level either but it's not like someone is going to make a tournament to "promote black players".
People don't see a problem with a low amount of black starcraft players but it's not like anyone is hindering their success either. Why is this not the case with female players?

Everyone should be careful when critizicing these female only -tournaments, I got temp banned once for questioning the existence of these things, and I was even being really polite about it.

Don't see the point of making a Female tournament in a game where the gender don't make any difference. For me it's discrimination.

When it is about ideas of tolerance and acceptance of women, gay or religion, every other TL user has his kneejerk reaction and agrees. But when the time comes to live by those ideas and apply it in real life, there is nobody around anymore.
You are a whole bunch a coward brats who are nothing but airheads.

Are you kidding? You seriously think that no one is hindering female talent? Have you looked at a chat or on the forum whenever there is a female involved? As soon as a female shows herself it's "TITS OR GTFO", talk about her looks, go to the kitchen jokes, I even regularly see rape jokes. And this might just be memes or a fun little vernacular for those who continue to do it, but it's non-stop, all the time, every time there is a female on the screen. Would you seriously like to enter a community where you're treated that way? I'm a man but I'm fucking disgusted by how women are treated in the gamer community, either as objects or jokes. It's far worse than in regular society where it's already quite bad. These tournaments create a safe environment where women can develop their skill and interest without having to put up with all that.
Are they super good? Not yet, but who cares? No one's forcing you to watch. No one's forcing you to even notice it if you don't care. Why are some men so provoked by this? I see nothing but positives. Most of the arguments against this make no sense at all. It's discrimination??? Come the fuck on.
Edit: Sorry for my rant. To get back on topic, I'm enjoying this and I hope Maddelisk can take it home!

There is a difference between discrimination as preferential treatment towards a particular population and selection.
Men have plenty of tournaments to play in, as such making a women only tournament isn't preventing them for anything, it is merely adding something to the female community.
I blame those post-racial philosophers who thought it would be smart to use the verb discriminate in every sentence.

you seriously think no one is hindering male talent? i mean, it has been looked down on ALOT to be a gamer, male or female, yet it doesn't seem to bother the males, only the females. strange..
