In my opinion Naniwa did not deserve the seed until his latest results. In other words: GOM got fuckin lucky that they picked the right guy and should avoid stuff like these seeds into Code S in the future. I am okay with Code A seeds though.

I actually was thinking... what about GOM organizing a "foreigner qualifier tournament" with one or two seeds for code A as the prize?

at least this would end the "he not deserved it" feeling , and we would have some kind of qualifier for the foreigners to get there so GOM would have their "foreigner spots" filled.

im so happy that Naniwa make it through ,but i also dont agree with code S seeds , im ok with code A.

If he actually gets the GSL... that would be HUGE even with the seeding.

I actually really like this idea.
Maybe something like three qualifiers, one for EU, one for SEA and one for NA, have the top 12 players (top four from each) compete in a mini-tournament and if they want to give a code S seed give it to the winner while the second place gets up/downs and third gets code A. Or however they want to do it, I liked when the seeds were for MLG, those were earned and there was a lot less argument over how legitimate the guys who got them were.

Well, the code S seed is basically that, except they don't organize a qualifier themselves but instead use the results of all foreign tournaments between season to choose. So it's the same thing, in fact if they made a foreign only qualifier the arguments for/against would be exactly the same, with no Korean allowed to play in the qualifier.

GSL has given Code A seeds to foreigners before, but it wasn't that attractive for foreigners to travel all the way to Korea and stay for months in order to get a shot at making Code S. Sen, for example, forfeited his Code A spot after dropping out of his Code S seed - the money isn't there and the process was too long.

IMO, GSL's system is broken for foreigners. The disparity between MLG & IPL and GSL is this - seed 5-6 foreigners into Code S and you're going to see good foreigner finishes in GSL, but GSL is never going to do that, whereas MLG and IPL are willing to do the equivalent, as their short weekend tournaments and online qualifiers are easy for Koreans to attend and they pay flight, room & board for up to a dozen Korean pros.

To approach the level of accessibility that foreigner tournaments have, GSL needs to hold online qualifiers for Code S. But they're not going to do that because that's not the way pro SC is run there.

Naniwa can't win in Code A, but destroys both Code S groups. You can't explain that lol. So happy for Nani ^_^

Naniwa has been the 2nd best foreigner for a while now, right behind stephano. Naniwa actually beat stephano last time he played him I think. Not sure why anyone would ever doubt naniwa when he regularly takes out code s players in foreign tournaments.

Wow Naniwa!

I stood up during the games since I was to nervous and excited to sit down

So Naniwa is Code S next season as well now?
Then he can play out the rest of this season without any sort of pressure (disregarding the pressure he puts on himself to perform well).

Great things are yet to come.

Yeah, I think GSL is kind of random like that. DRG got knocked out of code S this season, along with so many past upsets. I wouldn't be surprised if next season naniwa gets knocked out first round code S, then first round code A. We'll have to wait and see

Due to the nature of so many "snipers" in Code A, it's definitely hard to get away and advance from it.

Noooo Genius! Good job Naniwa though! Very impressive. If I could enjoy this happening for a selfish reason, it would be so all the people saying "hurrrr Naniwa doesn't deserve it, he always loses in the GSL" now have to shut up. >.<

Besides Genius, the other opponents were borderline Code A / Code S players. It's great that Naniwa advanced, but his groups been pretty easy so far and played to his PvP strength. The real test will come in ro8. Let's hope it's not another coinflip PvP.

Why yes, it is quite impressive that NaNiwa dropped only ONE game on his path to the ro8.

Anyways - NANIWA Ro8. Foreigner hope!

Watching Naniwa vs. Virus game one, I was loving the fast 3 nexus, but the fact no one was taking a 4th meant that there were very little to actually to attack No opportunity to engage at a weak point and that made me sad.

I'd consider puzzle one of those players who is very good who just hasn't won anything but yah.. Ryung is bad at TvP so Naniwa has yet to beat a top top player, however, that doesnt lessen this accomplishment and he CAN beat them as he has shown in the past.

This is the sort of post I hate. An attempt to denigrate a players achievements by implying his opponents are not very impressive.

Nanima has been getting hate because some folks claim he has not earned his place in Code S, he has not proven he is worthy of his Code S status because he got a seed. These haters claim that only those who have worked their way through Code A qualifiers and then through Code A and then through Up/Down matches have 'earned' their Code S status. Naniwa is getting bashed for getting a seed into Code S.

Now that Naniwa is doing well in Code S, the players that Naniwa has defeated in Code S are getting bashed and folks like yourself are implying that Puzzla, Virus and Ryung are somehow not 'true' Code S Players. And yet these players who have 'earned' their way into Code S 'the hard way' are now suddenly easy opponents because Naniwa beat them. What a joke!

Haters will go to any lengths to bash foreign achievements. I am not saying ninjamyst is a hater but his post disses the achievements of Naniwa, Ryung and Virus.

So this guy, Naniwa, is in round of 8 and people start getting excuses for why Koreans played bad?

Naniwa is top form and top quality. DEAL WITH IT! Not even Stephano has that high chances vs any korean as Naniwa does.

Haters gonna hate. Even if Nani wins this GSL they will make an excuse for his achievement.

Congratz to Naniwa. Really really impressive. I hope he makes it to the finals at the very least. It would be sick as fuck if we had our first ever foreigner win the gsl this season :D

I agree with all of this apart from Ryung. Ryung's TvT and probably TvZ are Code S, but his TvP is dreadful to the point of doubtfully even being Code A standard.

Taking anything away from Naniwa's wins so far is moronic, though. He's played incredibly to make it this far.
