It's more the fact that GSL's format is really unforgiving. Alive and DRG both lost 2 bo3, which is the grand scheme of things is not many games at all. Yet both are 1 bo3 loss away from going to code b. One bad day in GSL can really screw you.

Alive definitely did not deserve the win.... like lol mostly BO wins and then just steamrolling with marauders ? god that's a useful skill toi have.
Not only that but squirtle fought so hard to get to this point
Squirtle is the real champion.... Alive just won a useless trophy
ahhahaha you're soooo mad, aLive is by far the more accomplished player.
You're not wrong... I am bitter about the results ... especially at how many of the games went (I normally don't watch either player but I didn't want to watch a final plagued with BO win/losses)
That being said based on the road for both players squirtle undeniably had the tougher road and given his calibre of games I just don't see how aLive is worthy of the trophy

haters gonna hate
Alive played excellent in the second best of 3. Congrats to Alive!
If you count BO wins and marauders as good games you need to get out more.... wait I don't think I did that right ....

The money he won, however, is very useful.
I never denied that.... I just think the trophy itself was awarded to the lesser skilled player in the context of the tournament... Yes he technically won the money and that's gonna take him a long way... but to me a trophy is supposed to be a representation that one is undeniably the champion at the event... and I honestly can't say aLive was a true champion (from a quality perspective)
Of course Squirtle had the tougher road, he didn't qualify for groups like Alive did. And that game was so much more than marauders. If thats all you saw it as, well thats just sad. And for BO wins to work, it means Squirtle chose bad builds too. Nexus first on a 2 player map? Are you serious bro? DT's against Terran? Come on thats just a terrible choice. Squirtle did not play well in the second bo5. Alive did. End of story.
An interesting point you brought up is that for BO wins to work Squirtle chose bad builds... I may have not watched the games closely enough but I had always thought the two rax and cloak banshees were preplanned with no prior scouting. While I agree that squirtle's decision making in the context of builds was questionable... honestly aLive kinda got lucky (game two was obvious, but game one was also in part to squirtle's average defence that was not enough)
And at the end of the game three when squirtle warped in units that were more upgraded and had a numbers advantage (granted not all the units were firing) against mostly marauders of around 2/3 the size and marauders end up winning something is troubling about that. Sure the game was much more than that but can you say with confidence that marauders alone during both the large and small engagement was the deciding factor? (cause it sure wasn't any godly micro on aLive's side)
Going nexus first on a 2 player map is just a terrible decision. Thats why even though he scouted it, as long as Alive can control it properly, Squirtle couldnt do anything. Its way to risky of a build to do on a 2 player map. A 2 rax on the other hand isn't nearly as risky, especially a non 11/11 2 rax. And DT's are just bad vs Terran. Huk threw away games against MKP by going DT. Really bad decisions by Squirtle. You say BO loss, I say bad decisions by Squirtle.
Squirtle was going pure stalker for the most part in game 3. You cant do that against Marauders. He needed zealots to buffer if he wanted to keep attacking. He should have just backed out. The longer you fight with blink stalkers, the weaker they are getting, while Alive's marauders get healed by the medivacs. It was a bad decision to keep attacking with just blink stalkers. You killed 30 works, you are ahead in economy. The only way Terran can win in that situation is to over extend and not let the economy damage matter because Terran attacks before he really feels it. That doom drop was alive's only chance. And Squirtle gave it to him.
Squirtle made very bad decisions in the second BO3. Alive punished him for it. thats how sc2 works.

What's troubleing about that? Mauraders are hard counter to stalkers even moreso with 8 hovering medivacs. alive did not win it with micro but unit choice and squirtles god aweful decision to keep engaging rather than pull back when ahead.
The best tournament so far in 2012 is still Lone Star Clash. Amazing how a tournament run by kids and the weirdest line-up of players ever turned out to have the best games, interviews, and filler.
Player pool at lone star was too poor for me to consider it anywhere close to the best. Honestly don't know how you can even put it in contention. I only watched the finals of lone star because it wasn't an interesting tournament.
Despite the lower quality player pool it still had excellent production and was mad entertaining.
MLG > Lone Star > IPL4 for me so far.
If we are looking at it from a strictly production and running a tournament perspective I have to agree. IPL really dropped the ball all weekend. Lots of streaming problems, not showing enough open bracket games, not showing elimination games while showing meaningless games. IPL definitely needs to step it up for IPL5 and I believe they will.
Ironically, like 75% of the LSC production crew was at IPL4.
Well, losing 2 bo3s would have knocked you out of the open bracket here. Or going 2-2 in pool was most likely out as well.. And 2 bo3 losses would be out in championship bracket as well

This is true, but then you have people saying DRG is in a slump because he lost 2 bo3 in GSL and 1 bo1 in GSTL.

No, only when a foreigner wins do you automatically get #1 in the world status.
Alive's achievements over the last 6 months are very impressive though. Top 3 terran pretty much.
Who else would you have in your top three? Mine would have MMA, MKP and either MVP or Jjakji depending on how healthy MVP was. I have a hard time seeing aLive as one of the top 3. Top 10, for sure. Top 5, maybe.

I've had my eye on him since NASL #1 and he;s been good. What's wierd is his play never struck me as outstanding like crazy micro or anything like MKP, but he's been getting it done with high finishes.
Not top 3. Money talks opinion walks. There are at least 7 terrans richer than him.
The good: MMA's many nukes and manner sensor towers in game 2 vs stephano. It was silly but really amusing the futher along it went. Game 4 alive vs squirtle (that hero collossus, those feeds backs, hell even alive's ghost with that almost game ending emp) Scarlett's crazy games vs oz, God holding that one push with almost no corrupters man. Sase vs Golden game 3 where he just kept supply blocking golden by killing all his overlords with phoenixs forever. lol too many pool play games to list. MC's casting stephano up on stage in his socks ^-^ Apollo and catspajamas amazing casting synergy legend and the guy who's name I forget's observing making it possible to understand more than ever what's really going on. GSTL Maru vs July
the bad: Every white-ra loss where he had an advantage and blew it Sase and huk getting so close to pool play and then being denied. production issues commercials en masse gstl drama ( << >> I was still happy prime won but i felt bad at the same time)
Overall the event was sucessful to me as a viewer and something I'd happily pay for in the future. Some things need smoothing over before the next event but it's nearly 4 am here and any sleep I lost today/ over the weekend was worth it for what I got to enjoy.

MKP is #1 imho. MVP in his current form isn't even top 5 anymore (his recent series vs Idra was the worst I've ever seen him play).
I guess MMA is #2, although his TvP is a glaring weakness.
Alive is a strong contender for #3. He has solid tournament results and he just beat a very impressive line-up at IPL. His TvZ always seemed very weak, but it looked much better this tournament, so maybe he fixed it. His TvP and TvT are absolutely world-class. Jjakji is good, but very weak TvT, although his TvZ is much better then Alive's. I think they are roughly on the same level overall
