But aLive IS the true champion; he won the tournament. That's the only way to become the champion.
The best tournament so far in 2012 is still Lone Star Clash. Amazing how a tournament run by kids and the weirdest line-up of players ever turned out to have the best games, interviews, and filler.
Player pool at lone star was too poor for me to consider it anywhere close to the best. Honestly don't know how you can even put it in contention. I only watched the finals of lone star because it wasn't an interesting tournament.
IPL 4 was the best foreign tourney this year, followed by MLG columbus.
I'd rate it a 6 or probably a 7. But neither, because ratings don't mean anything. I'm a person who doesn't care much about things like this but i can objectively say that a few things were poor. The sound was very poor in the first two days, better today. Especially like the interview feed being linked into the main feed, and well, the sound , game sound and casting sounds were totally out of whack.
Secondly, the camera switching during big important battles?`Who authorized that? Who does that? Why is that a good idea? ST Legend was amazing again as the observor which has to be said. I feel there were too many amateur mistakes made.
The games however were a good point, that was obviously the good point of the tournament, high quality all round imo. Then we move onto the fact there were adverts every 2 god damn seconds. I don't mind ads but it was borderline excessive.
Casting was mostly great all round and i don't understand some of the pitchforks. Guys should remember it's real human beings they are attacking and hurting.
Lastly, the swiftness of the closing/award ceremony was a farce. I mean what? They gave 3 trophies out in 30 seconds. Then that was it. No interview, no real words from anyone of note? Was just another poor blemish on the production and they must up their game at ipl 5.

DreamHack Summer and Winter?
Ah forgot about that, DH didnt really have the same volume of high level Korean players though. The point is well taken, I still think protoss's record in major tournaments (the obvious elephant in the room is GSL) can be depressing at times, its not something which can really be marked down to balance though IMO.

Despite the lower quality player pool it still had excellent production and was mad entertaining.

While I wanted Alive to win as a Terran player, I feel kind of slighted. Squirtle ran through every Terran he played except for Polt and I was waiting for someone to outplay him (ideally to get some help in the matchup) but Alive just got his BO wins and in the only longer game he won was because of a handful of marauders and Squirtle overextending.
Alive certainly deserved the trophy for punishing some of Squirtle's builds and hanging in there in that second BO5, but I can't help but feel he just perpetuated the whole "win early or auto-lose" mentality TvP feels like right now. Every game in the finals made me just sad for both sides of the matchup.

So you're saying I can't consider it the best and you didn't even watch the event except the final?
I thought Lone Star was the best all-around tournament. No real problems. Entertaining throughout. Good games. Nothing really to harp about.

You could've just quoted to make it easier to address who you're speaking to.
To address your point... should we judge only quantitatively? If that's the case what's the point of IPL top 5/10 plays... or for that matter why do people want polls for recommended games... let's just look at the results page and spoil ourselves...
My point is that to some degree we need both.... quantitative to address winnings but qualitative to address.... well quality and other aspects.... so I have valid reason to voice my concerns the way I did.

Correct. It was an amateur run tourney, which can't compare to the professional tourneys, so stating it as the best tournament of 2012 is hyperbole to the max.
