But aLive IS the true champion; he won the tournament. That's the only way to become the champion.
Poor alive get no credit. Even in RO4 GSL ppl were saying he shouldnt be there. He couldnt even get a korean team to like him. lolz

Alive definitely did not deserve the win.... like lol mostly BO wins and then just steamrolling with marauders ? god that's a useful skill toi have.
Not only that but squirtle fought so hard to get to this point
Squirtle is the real champion.... Alive just won a useless trophy
ahhahaha you're soooo mad, aLive is by far the more accomplished player.
You're not wrong... I am bitter about the results ... especially at how many of the games went (I normally don't watch either player but I didn't want to watch a final plagued with BO win/losses)
That being said based on the road for both players squirtle undeniably had the tougher road and given his calibre of games I just don't see how aLive is worthy of the trophy

The money he won, however, is very useful.
I never denied that.... I just think the trophy itself was awarded to the lesser skilled player in the context of the tournament... Yes he technically won the money and that's gonna take him a long way... but to me a trophy is supposed to be a representation that one is undeniably the champion at the event... and I honestly can't say aLive was a true champion (from a quality perspective)
Then you are naive, aLive definetely showed the better games in this tournament, hidden 2 base colossus allins aren' exactly what you look for in "quality games", and marauders are standard units in TvP that work incredibly well against stalkers when those aren't supported by zealots, but I guess it has to be aLive's fault that Squirtle commited such an imense blunder as building pure stalkers in a developed tvp.
The best tournament so far in 2012 is still Lone Star Clash. Amazing how a tournament run by kids and the weirdest line-up of players ever turned out to have the best games, interviews, and filler.
I don't think it's that surprising. This event was...too professional in some ways and you can easily see the influence of 'suits' who don't really understand the scene. Watching Anna tower over the Koreans, in her glittery-dress made them look like tiny bums in their oversized hoodies.
Same with the interviews. It was too organized, too well rehearsed. You get much better results from most SC2-players by having a more loose-format, so they are less intimidated and open up more (see HSC).

Player pool at lone star was too poor for me to consider it anywhere close to the best. Honestly don't know how you can even put it in contention. I only watched the finals of lone star because it wasn't an interesting tournament.
IPL 4 was the best foreign tourney this year, followed by MLG columbus.
So you're saying I can't consider it the best and you didn't even watch the event except the final?
I thought Lone Star was the best all-around tournament. No real problems. Entertaining throughout. Good games. Nothing really to harp about.
Correct. It was an amateur run tourney, which can't compare to the professional tourneys, so stating it as the best tournament of 2012 is hyperbole to the max.
Amateur run tourney that had better sound production than IPL4, rofl
And who are you to tell someone their opinion is wrong?
For people complaining about the short ceremonies, it is likely they had take down the venue and hand it but to the hotal at a certain deadline and they were already running behind schedule.

Despite the lower quality player pool it still had excellent production and was mad entertaining.
MLG > Lone Star > IPL4 for me so far.
If we are looking at it from a strictly production and running a tournament perspective I have to agree. IPL really dropped the ball all weekend. Lots of streaming problems, not showing enough open bracket games, not showing elimination games while showing meaningless games. IPL definitely needs to step it up for IPL5 and I believe they will.

They better lol, cause the hype going into this thing compared to the actual tournament was a complete letdown.
Hope NesTea get's some rest, he showed amazing games and I hope he does well in the GSL(NesTea Fighting!~ ) Good effort Squirtle you did amazing and i'm really happy for you, I believe that you will make it out of your Code S group to! And congrats to aLive, he showed some amazing games and he really deserves it, I feel bad for SlayerSVen in Code A! ^^ :D

haters gonna hate
Alive played excellent in the second best of 3. Congrats to Alive!
If you count BO wins and marauders as good games you need to get out more.... wait I don't think I did that right ....

Of course Squirtle had the tougher road, he didn't qualify for groups like Alive did. And that game was so much more than marauders. If thats all you saw it as, well thats just sad. And for BO wins to work, it means Squirtle chose bad builds too. Nexus first on a 2 player map? Are you serious bro? DT's against Terran? Come on thats just a terrible choice. Squirtle did not play well in the second bo5. Alive did. End of story.
An interesting point you brought up is that for BO wins to work Squirtle chose bad builds... I may have not watched the games closely enough but I had always thought the two rax and cloak banshees were preplanned with no prior scouting. While I agree that squirtle's decision making in the context of builds was questionable... honestly aLive kinda got lucky (game two was obvious, but game one was also in part to squirtle's average defence that was not enough)
And at the end of the game three when squirtle warped in units that were more upgraded and had a numbers advantage (granted not all the units were firing) against mostly marauders of around 2/3 the size and marauders end up winning something is troubling about that. Sure the game was much more than that but can you say with confidence that marauders alone during both the large and small engagement was the deciding factor? (cause it sure wasn't any godly micro on aLive's side)

Now that you say hype, I want to add this. Day 1 and 2 had NO HYPE! It was boring honestly. It just wasn't doing it for me. MLG always manages to create this atmosphere that hooks me in so much. IPL didn't do that until Day 3 for me.

And to think that aLive was 4th in his GSL Ro32 and faces an elim match just stay in Code A... Goes to show how good the players are and how close in skill they are. Almost anyone can make a run.
