The final ceremony washout because it's wayyyy overtime for the live audience. The final bo5 had wayyy fewer people as it is late. I think Tyler even left afterwards despite staying the first bo5

7.5/10. The best tournament so far in 2012 is still Lone Star Clash. Amazing how a tournament run by kids and the weirdest line-up of players ever turned out to have the best games, interviews, and filler. I don't think it's that surprising. This event was...too professional in some ways and you can easily see the influence of 'suits' who don't really understand the scene. Watching Anna tower over the Koreans, in her glittery-dress made them look like tiny bums in their oversized hoodies. Same with the interviews. It was too organized, too well rehearsed. You get much better results from most SC2-players by having a more loose-format, so they are less intimidated and open up more (see HSC).
the HSC model would not work out with what IPL is trying to do. Yes HSC is awesome for the hardcore fans but not professional enough to be broadcasted or exposed to the general public. MC+MKP in broken english cast are funny but would be weird for an event like IPL. The players being interviewed are probably more relaxed at HSC because it's not in front of a stage of a packed audience; instead, it's in front of some fellow gamer friends at HSC.
The interviews seemed a bit out of place because of the people who did the interview weren't the best at it. Anna is a great presenter more than an interviewer but if they had Clutch or 2GD dressed in suits doing the interview it would have been normal. I thought Rachel does a great job even with nice attire. I kind of see what IPL is going for; when you think of Vegas or Atlantic City, you think of performances or entertainment acts and the sporting events are more of a show like boxing.
I thought the event was pretty good aside the technical issues. IPL3 didn't really have any of those issues that IPL4 had (that's in their control). So I'm not sure what happened and they should have it fixed next time. But they improved in tournament format, venue, audience turnout, and stronger competition. IPL5 looks to be promising if they fixed the technical issues and if they get djWheat, day9, tastosis on board for it.

I have a hard time seeing aLive as one of the top 3. Top 10, for sure. Top 5, maybe. MKP is #1 imho. MVP in his current form isn't even top 5 anymore (his recent series vs Idra was the worst I've ever seen him play). I guess MMA is #2, although his TvP is a glaring weakness. Alive is a strong contender for #3. He has solid tournament results and he just beat a very impressive line-up at IPL. His TvZ always seemed very weak, but it looked much better this tournament, so maybe he fixed it. His TvP and TvT are absolutely world-class. Jjakji is good, but very weak TvT, although his TvZ is much better then Alive's. I think they are roughly on the same level overall
Fair enough, I have too much love for MVP to leave him out of the top five even during this sad time. I don't see a whole lot of top contenders for those other spots: Polt doesn't impress me and, someone mentioned but I wouldn't even consider, GuMiHo. Taeja is pretty good but not proven enough to be put up there as a top Terran similarly SuperNova and ForGG have a lot of hype and not too many results. Until today I would have included aLive in the not too many results category, he did well though. Just not well enough for him to top Jjakji. I want to put Maru in the top five as well and maybe after this GSL I'll be able to justify that, we'll see.

I'm not saying I matter. I'm just saying I don't think aLive is top 3 terran and was wondering why others do. I don't feel that my desire for discussion is in any way unreasonable. Who would your top Terrans be?

Congratulations to aLive! One of the least expected to take the title home ends up doing it!
Also, really liked the production values on IPL (the waiting screens, stats, etc), and minus the technical issues which should be corrected, one of the best events so far...

I think there might be a few people who will disagree there. Wrong matchup, wrong co-caster (I like doa as caster, but not in that situation) for MC to cast. I didn't mute the stream, because I didn't think it was awkward, but I didn't listen because it just wasn't very good.

I thought MC was hilarious, and his knowledge of Zerg is actually really good he has offraced Z into GM from what I have heard and his Z is what theStC practiced against to go up against MVP's DRG in the GSL.

The incredible obs'ing made this tournament truly great, we often forget how much difference it makes to the viewing experience.
|
a bit dissapointed in the winner, thats mainly because im a huge fan of MKP and MMA, but if either of those wouldnt have won i was rooting for Squirtle or Nestea.... and turns out alive wins haha
IPL4 in general was a great tournament, with some amazing casting. For IPL5 i do hope they chance the presentation a little bit, always thought the short questions by Anna on stage were a bit awkward. Also hope they get some different casters (was hoping for totalbiscuit to make it, dapollo & totalbiscuit awesome duo). Current casters were good, but for such a great tournament, good is not gonna cut it, need amazing casters (bitterdam, tastosis, day9/wheat, dapollo/djwheat)

Some really good games, very fun watching on the korean stream, wish I'd found out about it sooner. Great work by Lani and the Beast crew during the first 2 days, always fun to watch some of that in between games, shame it got taken over and became pretty boring on the last day. Also nice to see each race in the top 3.
|
Ok event, not as great as previous IPL events imo. And sadly a boring winner, but IGN can't help that. The lack of western players made it less interesting too.
