The bracket is live & the map rounds have been updated! Check out the bracket HERE

The NASL Team League will pit eight of the world’s best teams battling each week for a $10,000 prize pool. Four invited teams include the top four finishers from the second season of the GosuCoaching Premiere League – Empire, EG, Mouz, and Liquid. Rounding out the lineup of teams will be four teams from two qualifying tournaments.

The league will be played in a round robin style, with each team playing every other team in the league. Matches will be played KOTH style – with the winning player continuing to fight until he is defeated; a match is won when four of the opposing team’s players are defeated.

Dates & Times: January 7th @ 19 CET (1pm EST | 10am PST) , January 8th @ 19 CET

Format: Single elimination bracket, Bo7 all-kill format. Starting map pre-set

Prize: Top 2 teams advance to NASL Team League

Server & Channel: Played on the NA server | Channel: NASL

MAP POOL:
ESV Ohana RE
TPW Artifice
TPW One Must Fall
TPW Damage Inc
TPW Odyssey
NASL Antiga Shipyard
GSL Daybreak

Start maps:
RO64 : TPW Artifice
RO32 : TPW Damage Inc
RO16 : TPW Ohana
RO8 : TPW Odyssey
Semi Final : NASL Antiga Shipyard

Reporting Results

Team managers must email their results (INCLUDING EVERY REPLAY) to xeris@nasl.tv!

- Include the names of all players in this format:
Player A > Player B (Map name)
- And all the replays! DONT FORGET
- Include YOUR TEAM NAME, OPPONENTS NAME, and ROUND in the SUBJECT of the email

If you forget to send all your replays, I might disqualify you from the tournament, so make sure your members save them.

Cool, so how do I sign up?

The bracket is closed! All 64 spots are filled now (the bracket shows a free win, but it's actually Team [N] need admin help to fix it)

Good luck to all teams.... lets see how far Eg and TL make it.

This should be fun. But lets see if its better than IPL team arena.

A very bold move to use an all-community map pool, but it's frigging awesome nonetheless. This team league is good initiative that might pull in those stream numbers the NASL needed.

If you meant qualifiers than both of them already in it.

If you meant the main tournament then EG has a great chance to make it with their top three (along with JYP to round out the four). Liquid players had gotten better in the later part of 2011 and hopefully they will continue getting better.

Considering the rivalries (EG, Mouz and TL) this is shaping up to be heated tournament.

Sounds good. Will there be casts for the qualifiers? Would be awesome, because if teams like dignitas, aTn, Millenium, Acer, Imba or Reign would sign up, there is the potential for very good games (I doubt koreans will sign up, because of their boycott) . Since two teams qualify, I assume there will be a second qualifier. Can you already say, if it will be also on NA or on EU?

I loved the first season of NASL, but the second season had alot of lackluster matches and I lost a little interest. This is exactly what the NASL needs in order to maintain relevance.

Yeah but you're making it so that the vast majority of EU teams can only qualify from one. Meaning that the first qualifier will probably be easier and that a few teams will advance from the first qualifier that are worse than teams that won't advance from the second.

He's talking about how some top EU teams (aTn for sure) may not be able to participate in the first qualifer because their players are going to Homestory 4.

Can't really schedule things around every single event, or you'll never get to play the qualifier..There will always be reasons and events that cause players to miss things, its just how it goes sometimes.

The whole point of two qualifiers is to give people who didn't have a chance playing the first one a second chance to get in!

it won't be significantly harder to qualify, I'm sure a lot of the big name teams will have enough players anyways if they decide to play in the first qualifier.

Looking forward to seeing TL in league though. It's always been hard for me to watch nasl in australia :S games are either shown at 11 in the morning or 3 in the morning. Maybe you could give us SEA viewers an extra restream?

Xeris what is the reason to put absolutely new maps to such big event? Noone plays them and will play in future in any league except NASL team qualifiers. I clearly doubt any team will practise em.

I'm pretty sure 3 of them are being used in NASL3. This is presumably for testing.

Yes it's fine -- as long as the admin (me) knows who is playing on which account. But ya its ok for EU / KR players for example, who might not have their own NA accounts

Cause using maps no one uses vs the same old generic maps that have been played to death is a terrible idea I hear ya. Honestly though these new maps will be fun to watch im ooking forward to it. I would rather watch new maps in action vs those on like Xel'Naga or even my favorite map of all time Metalopolis

Also Xeris,

4PL Pro League (team league) playoffs are during the second qualifier time so the European teams that can't play in the first one also might not be able to play in the second one.

Millenium, ESC, Acer and imba.FXO are at the 4PL Pro League finals during Jan. 14-15. ALL FOUR OF THESE TEAMS have players at HSC IV... meaning during the first qualifier.

That's a very flawed perspective and a terrible response. He is not saying anything about using the same map pool forever. He is asking about the drastic change in maps. There is a big difference between how most tournaments add new maps and what the NASL is doing.

Whether you agree with strelok or not, it seems pretty silly to reply to his concerns with "WELL DO YOU WANT TO ALWAYS USE THE SAME MAPS FOREVER!? I DIDNT THINK SO! WE CANT ALWAYS HAVE THE SAME MAPS", because he is not advocating the use of the same maps forever.

How are you going to schedule 8 players who may be scattered across the world? Will all the games be played on the same day, and will they be cast live/as-live?

I think you are going to have to get used to the different tournaments having a few of their own maps for a while if a universal map pool is never created. IPL's team league has three new maps and esl is partnered with map of the month to use the winner of that now.

Might have to just practice for whatever you are playing in next.

We've been testing them for several months in different tournaments, and are continuing to do so.

which tournaments are you talking about? I've never seen a game played on any of those maps, by anybody

I for one am happy to see new maps, they look awesome and I'm sure they will make for interesting games. Will the qualifiers be broadcasted? If so, who will be casting them?

I think the fact that NASL are introducing new maps is awesome, its completely necessary. However, I don't understand why you are using exclusively new maps, I think a balanced pool of old and new would be better. That being said, new maps are still better in general than old maps.

NASL Open 1 , NASL Open 2 , NASL Semi Open ... there have been over a hundred games played on the maps, they've undergone balance changes based on pro player feedback... what other process would one go through to incorporate new maps into a league? Most of the TPW maps have won map of the month award, Ohana is pretty widely known and tested in multiple other leagues/events (even the TL map contest).

Just because you haven't followed what we've been doing with the maps doesn't mean that our process for testing / refining / and incorporating new maps hasn't been exactly the same as everyone else.

We started with 9 TPW maps, we're down to 5... we'll pick only 2-3 of the best of these for the regular season. So that's like an 8-9 month process overall to arrive at 2-3 maps. I'd say that our testing has actually been equally, or more intensive and deliberate than any other league.

And also the open tournaments to qualify for the semi open. (Surprisingly few people wanted to play in those though)

I apologize of my post sounded a little harsh, that wasn't my intention. Although I see that they have mostly been played in the NASL and I'm sorry I just don't tune into that.

Those maps actually look pretty good. It will be nice to see some flavour added to the tournament scene. Thanks for the links

I believe there will be 2 qualifiers, one this weekend and one the week after. The top 2 teams from each will be invited to join the 4 invited teams. All told, 8 teams in total.

I hope FXO and imba.FXO both advance, the team league will be funny when they play ^^.

FXO has the most Koreans (I think?) so it would be an upset if they lost.

Also rooting for Dignitas, Complexity and ItsGosu.

Are you actually surprised?

Notice how winners of Dreamhack Winter and IPL3 got invites to the Blizzard Cup even though first place purse was considerably higher for NASL season 2?

I hate to drag up all the old controversy, but at this point I'm assuming all the korean teams have blacklisted NASL.

It's a really messy situation. Originally, a union or organization of Korean teams call SC2Con led the pullout from the NASL, but FXO later pulled out of SC2Con. SC2Con later disbands, but apparently the ax has not been buried yet. It's a pity really.

Hey everyone!
I saw this bracket and said, "THIS IS MADNESS...sorttttaaa like March Madness...we must have brackets!!" So I created a bracket challenge at Bracket Maker! Directions on how to predict are in the spoiler.

GL HF!

Predict Bracket Here!

+ Show Spoiler [Directions on how to predict] +

  • You must be a registered user to predict a bracket. If you are not currently logged in, you will be prompted for your email address and password. If you are not a registered user, you can register by clicking on the "Register Here" link. A password will be emailed to you immediately. (You can change your password to something more familiar once logged in.)
  • Go to the bracket that you would like to predict.
  • Click on "Predict It!" in the right hand corner.
  • Enter the information requested including your password emailed to you.
  • The bracket will then be displayed. Games will be listed with buttons next to the team names. A scoring field will also be displayed. Highlight the button next to the team/individual you predict will win. Input your predicted score. Continue this through the first round.
  • Click the "Enter" button at the bottom of the page.
  • The next round will then be displayed. Continue the process until the bracket is complete.

Korean teams didn't want to play because they didn't want to stay up all night, I asked several. FXO is Korean, and they are playing though. So, more power to them.

Invites are open to all -so if Koreans want to play next week, they're more than welcome

If it's an EU team vs EU team -- I have no problem if you play on EU server (meet in channel NASL on EU) , but for all other games you must play on NA server.

As long as you don't forget to email the replays / results correctly !

If it's an EU team vs EU team -- I have no problem if you play on EU server (meet in channel NASL on EU) , but for all other games you must play on NA server.

As long as you don't forget to email the replays / results correctly !
Thx a lot for your answer
Im replacing kaOz as p2b orga today since he's not available.

That's good, but they are going to really need that lead, especially with Sase and Naniwa still in the wings.

Some good games going on (imba vs sorrow right now, BratOk fighting) but the caster's screen control is really bad, making me slightly nauseous. It is jumping around a lot, zooming past the location the want to see then jerking back. They need to bind some locations to F-keys so they can move directly to the point of interest and stop the excessive screen motion. One of the casters is also clicking very quickly, it sounds like when you're watching a gamer's stream and they're micro'ing. Certainly not needed for the cast, they're both pro gamers so are probably doing it out of habit.

Casters are colCatz and LZGamer.

There's a link at the right.

Were these brackets made randomly? The bottom quarter seems very weak compared to the third quarter.

FXO, RoXKiS, Gama Bears, Vile compared to Impulse, vioesports, Nightmares and vVv.

What did he say that was biased?

Terran can not keep up with Protoss's reinforcements in the late game, Drewbie did make a mistake which eventually helped cost him the game, in addition to a slightly funky engagement at the end, but nothing Lz said was Terran biased there.

Agreed. Protoss reinforcements take 5 seconds and appear instantly wherever you want them. Terrans have build times, and have to run their shit back to the fight.

Why? Without MVP, Complexity is not worth mentioning at all. They did go 0-7 in EGMC as well.

Did your Koreans play?

Battling the force of gravity on their eyelids (myself included), yes. Leenock, Lucky, Oz, GuMiho were our 4 for today.

So FXO had to use 4 players...maybe FXO was actually beaten 0_0

Doesn't mean anything since 4 is max anyway.

Why no GuMiHo?

He has the best vZ out of FXO's aces and I'm scared FXOz has to go against his worst match up

RoXKis have an AMAZING lineup

LiveZerg: Beat Idra at ESWC in a great run
Slivko: Youre watching now
Titan: 4th at WCG, Hyped by many to be the next big thing
Abver: Solid Zerg, GM
Fraer: Absolute unknown but a monster, currently on fire on EU server: http://sc2ranks.com/eu/2367589/roxkisFRAER

RoX is one of Europe's best teams yet somehow so unknown

None of them get invited anywhere, hard to be known.

Slivko I remember from the latest Grubby invitational. He beat XiaoKai, Satiini, Real, HeroMarine, Violet and lost to Sjow in the finals. Pretty sick run.

I'm watching the NASLTL Qualifier with LZGamer and Catz casting, and there's a lot here that could use some improvement. LZGamer and Catz aren't very interesting or engaging with their casting right now (first time I've watched them, so I don't know if they're just having an off day), the games themselves are boring (nothing NASL can do about it, I know), and there was a stretch of time there where they were having technical problems with getting Catz synced up with LZGamer on skype and battle.net, and the whole thing was broadcast live, and the audience had to sit through watching Catz get tech support. The stage that LZGamer is on looks great and professional, but it's juxtaposed with Catz being in his bedroom with a Pizza Hut box on his bed.

I know NASL is doing its best with a limited budget, but production mishaps like these makes it hard to take it seriously as a professional esports league.

Last year we got to see how much the NASL grew and improved, and it was a blast. Here's to hoping they continue to improve and figure out good ways to avoid production pitfalls.

Right now, it is Xeris and Catz casting. Neither are likely to be main casters for the team league or the regular season (though I don't wanna speak for NASL). I've been watching the whole thing and I really think you keep getting names mixed up because nothing you say is ringing a bell.

This is just a qualifier and it's all being cast live. Perhaps your expectations are too lofty.

You do realize this is just a qualifying tournament? Most major organizations don't stream them, much less find commentators for them. Quit crying.

Who is on the nightmares lineup? They beat mTw (though they were obviously lacking their ace). That means someone there is good enough to beat TT1.

Wow, now they beat VVV. The team they're gonna face is one I haven't heard of, so they could very well go through to the semifinals.

It's the right team, unless there's another SC2 team named Nightmares I don't know about. Anyway, go team Light tomorrow! Excited, as they will probably be able to use kawaii.

I can't imagine there are other teams going by the name Nightmares that can beat the teams they've beaten... I'm not 100%, but unless someone says otherwise, I'm going to go by that.

I'm not a caster -- nor will I ever be a regular caster. I'd appreciate any feedback on it though, so hopefully if/when I cast in the future I can do it better. Hope I wasn't too terrible, although I know I'm pretty bad on camera T_T

As much as regular seasons are lacklust, NASL finals are the always worth watching.
