i thought the sf tournament was a nice intermission to starcraft i'm a complete nooblet when it comes to fighting games so i had no clue what was going on, but it moves so fast i found it entertaining anyway i'd say fighting games are the basketball of esports, they're just gogogogogogo starcraft is more like american football where it's slow paced and revolves around the occassional major play

I think a big error on the design of these games is that characters that become more powerful cannot die or else their team is very likely to lose, thus discouraging aggression and action. It's kind of like how sometimes two guys TvT turtle up and one battle decides it all, but there's no potential for "cheese aggression" to end the game early because the inner towers are very strong in the early game. Until a developer comes along and makes the games more action filled and shorter, it will struggle to bring in "outside money" that SC2 thrives quite heavily on. The heroes don't die very often but you are always killing stuff. There is some early aggression if you go for a ganking strategy but it generally doesn't end the game for 10 mins because unlike sc people dont gg early, they play out the game to the end

It's like saying you can't be a sports fan unless you dig bowling and NASCAR... Seriously, if you don't like it tune out. You don't see hockey fans who hate soccer go to a world cup bar and yell at the screen asking when the games going to end do you? :/ Respect its all that needs to be shown FFS. Well, you don't see a hockey broadcast stopped halfway through to show the world cup, do you? If you did, I can guarantee that you would see hockey fans complaining, and vice versa if they interrupted the world cup to show the kings playing the senators. Dreamhack is like the olympics, not like the World Cup. They celebrate everything, not just one game. You're pretty fucking ignorant and new to Dreamhack if you think they are a SC2 event

I didn't enjoy that SFIV match very much because I have no idea what they were doing, but I would never say the game is shit and dreamhack should just cut it. Sometimes SCII fans seem like bullies, like that strong kid that takes over an area of the school yard with his friends, not letting anyone else play there. It's possible to not like a game, but still respect it.Show nested quote + On November 27 2011 04:18 ImHuko wrote: You don't have to like other games, but you don't have to shit on something you don't even understand. The players in SSF4 are equally as talented in their game as others are in SC2. In fact, a new player to SC2 has a better chance of beating a pro in SC2 than they do in a fighting game. These discussions and outbursts wouldn't even happen if tournament organizers took a hint and stopped interrupting their events and mixing in content that isn't supposed to be mixed in. As far as I'm concerned, until they do take a hint, I won't have a problem with negative reactions.

Its not that the people who are upset that they stopped the SC2 tourney to show SSF4 are upset that SSF4 is considered an e-Sport it is that they want to watch SC2 not SSF4. SC2 has a huge scene so tourney organizers seem to be lumping in finals of other games to increase viewers (ala LoL at IPL) They didnt just "stop the SC2 tourney" ... There is a fuckin SCHEDULE

Shame. I have to agree with this guy. I love the simplicity of Street fighter and how i can still follow it with the straight forward HP bar. But the inner strategies were kind of left out of the commentary. Compare this to Quake live, same simplicity. But the commentators have a lot of experience in getting through the amazing strategic depth of the game. Which is what actually made me play it some time ago. None the less, good games were played. Article about this: "Here’s the issue at hand. The problem with commentary isn’t that we aren’t taking the correct cues from Starcraft. It’s that fight game casting in general, not just the commentary portion, has foolishly tried to walk down the trail blazed by Starcraft. We can’t do the same things they do. The games are too different. What we should be doing is gathering thinkers and visionaries to begin to draft up ideas for pushing fighting games forward in new ways within the digital medium. The traditional paradigm – direct feed game footage, put on some overlays, get two shmucks to talk about what’s happening on screen – just doesn’t work as well for us as it does for Starcraft. We need to do our own thing, a new thing altogether.” -UltraDavid http://shoryuken.com/2011/10/19/improving-live-streams-the-commentary-quandary/

Shame. You are mistaking strategy with tactics. Please look up these terms before you want to discuss it. Whatever dude, they are talking none of it. And your attitude isn't helping either dont' really see why the cast itself needs strategic depth. starcraft has it own shoutcasting and totalbiscuit comes to mind. street fighter pacing is like a minute-long micro tumble; non-stop, split second decision making along with split-second execution. if you miss one specific attack, it costs you the game nearly instantly. you want to speak strategy when it comes to a live-casted finals? you would atleast need to be into the scene to even remotely understand what you'd want to know. don't be ignorant, those two nice casting fellows seemed like they would gladly answer your scrubbiest questions on any other day, but those were the grand finals of the tournament---you're getting minimal of everything other than a play-by-play
