MLG Providence Day 3 Live Report Thread - Page 4
Forum Index > StarCraft 2 Tournaments |
Here we go again. This weekend is about good games and good fun. Don't rain on that parade. Play nice guys. Here's the very standard and friendly: - NO Balance Whine. - NO Player Bashing. - NO Caster Bashing. - NO BM whatsoever. Breaking these rules (from pg 166 forward) will be met with severe punishment.

I have missed two days of MLG because of family weekend birthdays etc. I was wondering if I could get someone to give me a brief "Previously, on MLG..." because the results only tell so much, and from results alone I feel like there are potentially interesting storylines coming out I want to see more about tomorrow! So yeah, anyone able to give me a recap I guess of highlights from MLG's play so far without me having to trawl through 1000 pages of Team Liquid? =D? Personal favourite part of the day was watching Hero play, amazing unit control, timings and overall gameplay in all of his games. That said he did lose to Huk 0-2. The Protoss have been using Sentry drops in the main and force-fielding the ramp to great effect against zerg, definitely the most powerful and most talked about strategy of the tournament (think blue flame hellion drops at anaheim). Just a sick tournament in general though, such a high level of play, lots of really close intense matches.

Him or Naniwa, i have a huge amount of respect for someone who goes to Korea and takes the game 140% seriously, lives it and breathes it, whether they are "BM" or not, packing your bags and flying halfway across the globe for Starcraft is awesome even if it is a Idra or a Naniwa, i dont care. Its like Rocky going to Soviet Union to train in the harsh cold snowy mountains, lifting wood, fighting ice bears (scene deleted) etc while "No Way Out" is playing in the montage. (yes Huk has done the same, but he won last time so him winning again just dosent have the same "awesome" factor)

Also, OMG LOL i don't like football but THAT PLAY WAS JUST FUCKING EPIC LOL! the guy must be set for life (and his team too, and possibly the enemy team too haha) Also, lol epic tastosis fuck MC has such an epic ceremony xD does anyone know if theress a specific reason it was a dinosaur or did he just get a costume xD Naniwa beats MVP then beats Nestea in Global invitational. In 1 of the games vs Nestea, it was a weird game on taldarim. Nestea would send lings and pull drones, naniwa cancels nexus and nestea sends drones back, keeps lings to harass. Nestea eventually loses. Boxer takes 1 game off impressively (nice strategy) off Nestea but still loses 1-2. MC beats MVP. MC beats Idra right after (AGAIN LOL). Also, MMA vs DRG is at the same time, but DRG owns MMA 2-0 it was a disappointing series. Also, Naniwa vs Nestea... AGAIN. 2nd game was really funky. Same thing, taldarim, nestea drone rushes, but sends them back. Nestea's lings prevents nexus going down (cannons are out of range), and nestea gets on 3 base. Naniwa pumps out of 2 stargate after retaking his natural. Lots of air comes in, doesn't kill nestea but picks off his hydras and such. A roach counterattack forces Naniwa to send his troops back. Then nestea pumps off 3 base to try to kill naniwa, brings about 20 hydras vs 8 phoenix 3 voids or something, naniwa has NO WARPGATE LOL pumps zealots out of 9 gates to defend. He holds somehow, rofl. I guess those phoenixes had a lot of energy or the hydras were focusing the zealots instead? meh Well Naniwa keeps holding and it looks grim for nestea but nestea finally breaks him somehow. Game 3 Naniwa does an impressive strategy on nestea, quite weird. 2 base vs 2 base. He canon rushes nestea behind the nat min line, then later he gets +1 attack and a 4 sentry drop and warps in 4 zealots into his main. He uses FF to protect zealots as they snipe the lair. He rallies one colossi (no thermal upgrading) to move to the lair too, to kill it (this is shakuras, so they spawned close by air). Impressive strategy, really epic micro. Poor nestea though. Well I think that's it ![]() Also, Huk beat Hero 2-0. Also, Naniwa called Nestea an idiot for pulling his drones (idk the exact quote or wording) for the first time they matched up (global invitational not providence). Nestea interveiewed and said he found out, and said he would destroy naniwa. Artosis notes how Nestea was uncharacteristically talking to other koreans to ask for tips/strats/advice to beat naniwa, haha. And then later after Naniwa beat nestea at providence, he thumbs down nestea. Also, after MC beat MVP, he did that epic dinosaur ceremony that u see in the spoiler. I twas hilarious! Well I think these are the big things, hope this helped. Thanks for that! Looking through the brackets, also wondering whether anyone has a recap on the following player's stories thus far: - MarineKing (specifically vs sC, and for that matter: sC) - Leenock - first foreign tournament, powered through open bracket? - Oz + Ganzi - were they disappointing? - violet - looks like he had a sick losers bracket run - TLO - good as zerg again? If not, no biggies. I look forward to seeing it tomorrow! =D

Look at the bottom bracket, by the time anyone makes it out of there they would already be so exhausted. One of the top 4 seeds has won every single MLG thus far. They usually go into the finals with not only an extended series advantage, but only needing to win 1 series vs. 2 for their opponent. I agree with you, I don't think this MLG will be any different. Although the extended series advantage won't be as serious. I think the only player left that could win from the losers bracket is MVP. But it is such a long and tough road that it is most likely not going to happen.

mkp got knocked to loser by sc, then beat him in extended series... he played a lot of mech style which was very cool. leenock got rather deep in winner bracket then lost to drg i believe oz and ganzi both didn't get to championship bracket... i heard ganzi was dissapointing and 111 all toss every game ^_^; can't comment on rest

I dont know the other team so im not sure if they are just plain bad at D but to someone who knows little about football that looked amazing :p I fell asleep yesterday only to wake up and see the thread locked, MMA lost, Hero lost and Nestea lost T.T must have been a wild night. I still hope to see MMA win this thing! If it has to be a protoss (as they seem well prepared and dominant this weekend) at least let it be Hero, not Huk or MC :s

He played great today, but I can't stand his awkward, arrogant BM. Im agreeing with you. Hero would be great, Huk is the favourite but Naniwa is so disrespectful and arrogant, although I think he is fairly kind at heart, he just lets his emotions get to him. Protosses are in a good position, but DRG is in the top 4 as well so dont be suprised to see him go far

Also, I'm calling herO to knock out MVP and Nestea looking at the brackets. MVP is kind of bad against toss and Nestea's play is....uninspiring to say the least lately, especially in zvp.
