Thats when overlords were detectors... A raven means that you have to make a tech lab on your starport which means you can't produce a constant stream of medivacs.

Meh. The same thing happens if you accidentally send lings into a siege line, mutas into a group of thors, marines into fungals, marines/lings into storm.
The same type of instant death occured in BW too, you just have to be really careful. I don't know why T don't just bring 1 raven with their forces for bling mines.

The raven delays your timing attacks every unit costs time/money that is why. Its not just they forgot ravens exist in the game.
