John Madden is the most successful football commentator of all time and his commentary consists of saying 90% totally obvious shit. "Now, in the National Football League, its very important that the quarterback be able to see where he's throwing the football."(Really? Cause I thought all the best quarterbacks were blind). "If you can't stop the other team from scoring, its going to be very hard to win games."(What? Outscoring your opponent correlates to winning? No way!) "Well, they're going for it on 4th and 1. Its a bit of risk, but if it works it could pay off" (um...isn't "if it works it could pay off" the definition of a risk) And yet, despite basically never saying anything that everyone doesn't already know, John Madden is THE definitive commentator, not just in Football, but in all American sports. "Insight" is VASTLY less important in commentary than a good voice, good chemistry with co-commentators, and the ability to maintain interest during lulls in excitement/crank up the energy even further when stuff gets crazy. | ||
