You can't just get a big roach/hydra army which is backed up by 3 times as much economy as protoss has. Baneling drops/infestors/late game transition is a necessity. Roaches are fine as a midgame transition, because while Protoss can match a roach army using precise gateway control, they can't split up as much. If Protoss loses map control against a roach-heavy midgame, they can't easily secure a third, and Zerg can tech much more freely. Crossfire in particular is obnoxious because while the paths are really hard to engage the P army on, it has a lot of space for backstabs and counters where zerg units can become significantly more viable and set up the lategame for infestor/brood, which uses the chokes right back against Protoss. That is, if you don't go mutaling. | ||
